wernercd··on Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade
I didn't say "largest". I said "democrats overreach". That's not saying "republicans don't".

Both do it... the idea that Democrats stay out of your lives is stupid. They want to control your lives every bit as much. They are trying to create a Ministry of Truth. They are sending the FBI after soccer moms. Biden made unconstitutional moves to use the FDA to enforce unproven vaccines. He's gotten slapped down by the courts repeatedly for various things.

In none of the previous paragraph did I say "republican are innocent". They both want expanded powers and will abuse them given the chance.

"have not moved the needle from player to overreach" one of the largest - if not the largest - expansion of government in recent history isn't "player" level. You can't say "1/3rd of people are covered by the government" and not admit that that is massive overreach for a federal government that has no right in that area to begin with. Lock stock and barrel: over reach.

wernercd··on Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade
I didn't say "The right doesn't over reach". I said "Its silly to say that the left doesn't".

You realize that both sides aren't for shrinking the government or staying out of your lives?

wernercd··on Supreme Court Overturns Roe vs. Wade
Hard to argue voting democrat is keeping government out of lives when some of the largest government overreaches have come from democrats. IE: ACA.

I do agree that they fail to utilize their advantage more often than not but to say that Democrats in control is going to keep government out of peoples lives is... an interesting approach given history.

wernercd··on What has changed with video games over the last 25 years, and what has not
To me, graphics are like money.

Money doesn't buy happiness but not enough money causes unhappiness.

Graphics doesn't make a game great... but bad graphics causes unhappiness. Just like bad controls, no tutorial, flakey network connections, etc.

wernercd··on Applebee’s exec urges using high gas prices to push lower wages, sparks walkout
"Grandma would move out"

So gentrification? Get rid of the "undesirables" instead of building more housing...

The problem isn't "grandma" (Or, I think that problem is vastly smaller than lack of new building/investment due to hostile regulations). The problem is anti-grow regulations that block what can be built (IE: must match look/feel, can't build high rises, etc)... and anti-grow regulations that demand massive investment in what can be built (IE: requiring water sprinklers in new homes, solar, etc) making new options grossly over-priced.

Cars aren't more expensive just because of inflation... they are more and more expensive due to regulations upon regulations such as air bags, abs, etc. Some of which is good... but a lot of which is debatable or outright wasteful. Same for housing.

Making grandma move out won't create the massive amount of new housing required for some areas. Those areas need new, affordable housing to be invested in - not getting rid of "undesirables" to raise taxes.

"feature high taxes and cheap property"

It's not cheap if you're taxed to death to stay there. Artificially low prices due to artificially high taxes aren't a solution any more than over regulation is.

And the idea of higher wages won't solve the issue that'll end up being inflation adjusted higher prices to pay higher taxes to pay for higher prices to pay for higher taxes to...

wernercd··on Applebee’s exec urges using high gas prices to push lower wages, sparks walkout
That idea ("1 bed room within 1 hour") is simplistic when you consider places like CA that have NIMBY brigades and huge amounts of red-tape making housing needlessly limited driving up prices with bad leadership.

Hard to feel super supportive of massive changes to min-wage for places that literally make affordable housing impossible.

Growing population + massive regulation + NIMBY = you're gonna have a bad time.

Increasing minimum wage without fixing other issues is a ticket to non-solutions.

"then also falsely claim COVID is literally a cold/flu" It's in the same area... the only difference is we've had those for generations and covid is new.

COVID is in effect a bad flu...

"5 million deaths" 5 million deaths FROM covid or WITH COVID?

Hint: You don't know because we don't know... those numbers are mixed, conflated and confused.

"Order of magnitude" In places like the US where hospitals get 30% more money for stamping "something" as "covid"? Hard to take numbers seriously... especially when you admit that "FROM" COVID and "WITH" COVID are different things and haven't been tracked properly.

If I have a heart attack... but I had COVID... Am I a COVID death or not? Currently, it's yes... you're a COVID death no matter what kills you. No matter that you're really not a COVID death.

"rational thought is not built on misinformation" but the fear around COVID is.

That's why kids who are statistically more likely to die tripping on a sidewalk are getting pushed to get vaccines that don't block transmition, don't stop covid and won't end the pandemic.

People aren't getting vaccinated for "rational though" because if they were then the people getting the vaccines would be the people who need the extra protection - as they also get that extra protection. Not kids or people in their 20's and younger who are proven a LONG time ago to not need to live in fear.

It's not rational thought that's driving COVID at this point. It's fear, misinformation, lies and the Holy Religion of The Vaccine.

wernercd··on I’m a public school teacher – the kids aren’t alright
Wearing a mask and not meeting in groups also won't stop COVID.

"it's realistic" it's realistic to face the fact that kids are unlikely to die from COVID so living in fear and spreading that fear is absolutely callous.

wernercd··on I’m a public school teacher – the kids aren’t alright
"Encouraging the spread of disease"

They are stastically more likely to die from tripping on a sidewalk than dying of Covid.

Telling them they are "spreading disease" when it's literally a cold/flu is irresponsible...

The problem is the fear of COVID has reached religious status and only heathens talk against the Church. The COVID Crusaders will burn witches at the stake no matter if they are spreading fear not based in facts or reality.

Nothing to see here guys... its good for normal people to pay double for things.
wernercd··on "Widevine Dump":Leaked Code Downloads HD Video from Disney+, Amazon, and Netflix
I mean, don't get me wrong... streaming is still pretty good. Fragmentation of content aside, there's more good content than there's ever been. So I'm not a 100% doom and gloomer...

but...

Getting that content has the "provider" problem. As you say, whack'a'mole to get the movie you want.

People always bitched that "Cable is horrible! Why do I have to pay for 400 channels to get the 3 I watch!". And here we are... able to pay for "Ala'Carte" and it's exactly what everyone wanted - and expected: Paying more for each bucket. Instead of $100 (or whatever a full cable plan is)... you're paying $75 for internet, $15 for netflix, $10 for prime (or whatever it amoritizes yearly), disney+, hbo max, Discovery+, etc, etc, etc.

Finding the EXACT movie you want is a hassle... and that hassle is what drives me to Plex. Radarr/Sonarr/NZB/etc all roll together to make a massively good platform that, learning aside, hands all the power back. I do have to pay for some stuff (NZB, Plex, internet, time learning, etc) but it's my time and worth it.

wernercd··on "Widevine Dump":Leaked Code Downloads HD Video from Disney+, Amazon, and Netflix
Plex is pretty damn good. If netflix is "better", it's marginally so.

There is learning with the above... docker to start and NZB/Torrenting... server management...

If you know those things already? or are close? great learning experience (my case).

is it worth ~$14/month for Netflix? Prime? Disney+? HBO Max? etc? maybe... but at a certain point the 'nickel and dime' gets to a point to where learning how to do the above becomes more worth it.

You don't need an expensive computer/server to do all this... just time and a desire to learn. once done? you control your own library and no need to worry about losing your content if you stop the monthly payments.

wernercd··on "Widevine Dump":Leaked Code Downloads HD Video from Disney+, Amazon, and Netflix
Or, you get a small server and download a package... with a little finangaling, you have a service that will catalog shows and movies you want to watch, download them, sort them and push them to your own private "netflix" server ala Plex.

https://github.com/sebgl/htpc-download-box

put it behind a VPN (included) and bam... all your stuff, globally gotten and none of the BS with "Wildvine" and it's ilk.

I'll be going from WFH Covid to hybrid so I'll be spending time on the roads come January... Dune might have to be the first audiobook I start.

The real question is Dune or the Prequels... I do like the expanded universe, personally.

wernercd··on “Dune” (The Movie), Annotated
Oh snap! good to hear. I've only started looking forward to Dune 2021 since I really hadn't paid attention... I love the audio books - book books were just too dense when I tried to read them originally. The audio books are among my favorite (Dune, LotR, WoT, Potter, Enderverse, couple others).

I've seen some good reviews and look forward to it more now knowing it's not just 2.5 hours lol

wernercd··on “Dune” (The Movie), Annotated
I think it'd be a good trilogy... or small series. Dozen hours... not 2. not 100.
wernercd··on “Dune” (The Movie), Annotated
I plan on seeing it soon but I was hoping to see the Hobbit... a single book turned into 3 movies. Trilogies seem to be where it's at.

Taking a deep book and turning it into a single movie seems to not work. Enders game: I'm looking at you.

Hard to stay on topic with you moving the goal posts...

Can we get an itinerary so I know where the goal posts are going to be? That way we can try to synchronize what "on topic is" since it apparently changes from one post to the next with you...

I could go on about the number of scandals, corruption and dumpster fire issues... but the collapsing poll numbers and cries of Lets Go Brandon speak it more than I ever could.

And I didn't say America was destroyed... I said Biden was in the process of destroying - and the above scandals as a starting point... they show an inept or corrupt plan that is in effect destroying America as we speak.

Lets Go Brandon.

wernercd··on YouTube deletes rapper's 'Let's Go Brandon' song claiming medical misinformation
You focus on "grifters" from the right and endorse grifters from the left by ignoring their scandals and the rumors about their grifting.

You don't like Rudy? Okay... now... why are you silent about Hunter? Joe? other stories about their corruption?

Why do you accept at face value rumors about the right - when many of those rumors turn out to be false or their "lies" turn out to be true? and then you'll support "biden wants" despite the fact that he's every bit the corrupt grifter you claim to despise in Rudy?

"all the evidence" This is about rumors and support/suppression of those rumors.

Again... rumors about Trump spend weeks in the news without facts - or against facts... journalists care about "all evidence" with Biden when that evidence has been proven lies time and time again.

If you support the hypocrisy, then you're a hypocrite. You'll push rumors against Trump and hide rumors against Biden because you don't care about truth.

wernercd··on YouTube deletes rapper's 'Let's Go Brandon' song claiming medical misinformation
"There wasn't sufficient evidence"

likewise, the laptop story was stopped because "its russian disinformation" even though 1) it never was and 2) those reasons never stop bad stories about Trump and family.

The main point of my post is that rumors sit in the new for months on Trump & crew... but "Journalists" suddenly care about "evidence" when it comes to Biden and Democrats?

"Media" is suppressing bad "rumors" about Biden and running rumors about Trump without issue. THAT is the issue and if you don't see the hypocrisy then you're part of the problem.

And right leaning?

Does stories about Joe Biden's son relate to Joe Biden? Are you shitting us?

Stories about Trumps children trend for weeks if there's anything negative... they don't get suppressed, questioned or challenged.

Hunter is accused of being a Crack Addict, a pedophile, selling influence, etc... each enough to sit in the media for weeks and it's all swept under the rug.

Trump supposedly says shithole and it's a national emergency... Biden supposedly gets a cut from his son's business dealings in China/Russia/etc and it's nothing.

How does Hunter relate to Joe? are you fucking serious?
