wernerb··on Docker Hub Official Repos: Announcing Language Stacks
I understand where you're coming from. At first glance I thought it would be the return of the dreaded virtual appliance giving people no clue on how developer X got to end result Y.

However, this is not that. Docker simply gives more emphasis to officially maintained docker images of popular projects, all of which have Dockerfiles available for your inspection!

Like other comments, I wish, that unlike your accusers, you would not engage on the same level of public mudslinging as it will hurt you professionally.

That said, there is a significant difference between paying someone and getting a refund, and not paying altogether.

A better recourse would have been to go to court to get your payment back, and have independent professionals (as you already did yourself) grade the work completed. Note that in these cases the software is graded by its "peers" (average programmers), meaning that if the work is deemed "barely" acceptable, you will not see your money back.

I hope you the best on this issue and also hope that hackernews will not be used as a platform for legal/code-theft arbitration in the future.

wernerb··on Moving away from Puppet: SaltStack or Ansible?
Any (configuration)file can be installed and/or templated with both Ansible and Salt. This includes whatever Nginx has for configuration.

I'm not 100% with both, but I guess you have nginx be installed in some dedicated pillar/playbook and you can have your application pillar/playbook include templated configuration files to be inserted into /etc/nginx/conf.d and notify the service to be reloaded somehow.

wernerb··on Moving away from Puppet: SaltStack or Ansible?
Fleet part of CoreOS does orchestration by leveraging systemd. I am actually working on stateless deployment of interdependent docker containers by pushing docker state to VMs much like Ansible.
wernerb··on Moving away from Puppet: SaltStack or Ansible?
> No masters. For Ansible this meant using ansible-playbook locally, and for Salt this meant using salt-call locally. Using a master for configuration management adds an unnecessary point of failure and sacrifices performance.

There are two models for delivering state to your infrastructure nodes. Pulling and Pushing configuration. Ansible Pushes code from the controller to your nodes, while salt, puppet and chef all pull state from a master somewhere.

Like twic says, Ansible does not have a master. The original author says no masters means faster performance. What he means is that pulling configuration from a remote checkout equals faster performance, which is true because it can be loadbalanced etc.

A chef/puppet master can have features such as search and service discovery that should be a large red flag for SPOF problems.

wernerb··on How to take over the computer of a Maven Central user
This is indeed a problem that needs to be addressed at some point. The MITM possibility has been mentioned before at SE http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7094035/how-secure-is-usi...

Actually, I've been reading and I might have jumped the gun.. Its programmer panic, sorry. You are right, it looks like a different type of system. I actually support all the providers Jclouds provides: Openstack Nova, rackspace, EC2, AWS-ec2.. more.

Whats more ozone does not store any state, rather it stores it in a zookeeper/etcd cluster so you are in control of your meta-data.

I don't know how long ago you tried the scala plugin. But I had the same bug when writing strings. What ultimately fixed it was disabling i18n support in the scala plugin preferences. I haven't had a single freeze/stutter since.
wernerb··on Modern-day cleanroom invented by Sandia physicist still used 50 years later
A recent "Cosmos" episode recounted that it was Clair Patterson who used the worlds very first "ultra clean room" to count the parts per million of lead in a meteorite to determine the age of the earth. Wikipedia says this happened in 1953. This is 9 years before the ultra clean room patent in 1963.

I can also recommend Docker + joyent/digital ocean with Openvpn. [0] Just paste a few commands, install tunnelblick and you are ready to go.

Thanks for the tip guys! One thing I found annoying was that it could not add replaygain for flac. To get around this, install metaflac and execute the following:

    find somealbum-with-cds -type f -name "*.flac" -print0 | xargs -0 metaflac --add-replay-gain
Then import as normal and it will have replaygain included (and store the replaygain in the library).
