It's been a while and the code is long lost. We only touched the surface of SymPy. Functions, Substitutions, some `ingegrate` and `simplify` is what I remember. The maths was already done. My job was to verify some equations.

They don't say you shouldn't optimize at all. But before you do, check what your performance bottlenecks are, take measurements and start from there.

I used PyPy with SymPy when I was helping out a mathematician-friend. SymPy is not exactly fast, a free performance boost was very welcome.

He specifically engineered his particles to be as densely packed as possible. I assume the pigments in commercial paint would limit the cooling capacity. Probably that's why he went with a clear acrylic base (with bubbles to make it reflective).
