I also agree with others it needs to be opt-in
* Have some ideas
* Have some savings (I quit with above 1 year or rent)
* Have equipment, backup drive, laptop, and ec2 (servers)
* Setup some ways to quickly get moving Wiki, Blog, Github, Ticking System
* Have a layer to help you incorporate and deal with anything that comes up.
We quit having a few ideas and not knowing which we would start with. I guess if you aren't in a rush I wouldn't quit until you had the idea you really wanted to start working on.
Princing is pretty straight forward as well.
During hiring we mentioned that we would cover up to X amount of personal health insurance. Since our hire had a family though we are now looking at getting a group plan even though the company only has 3 people, the man reason was getting family plans is much harder to get cheap personal plans while the group plans have better benefits for families.
I really don't like the hovering javascript buttons and I think the side panel is is kind of a distracting option. It doesn't feel well integrated allowing the comments to flow naturally as if they are just a part of the blog comment system.
Thanks for the link though.
Congrats to the teams this will fill a huge need for bloggers who aren't able to follow the discussion they themselves start.
I agree with all the comments on things being done iteratively and slowly makes sense as well.
It seems like an interesting way to become involved and learn a ton about the start up process.
(disclosure I was part of Techstars 08)
I can't even run bit torrent to legal files with out my connection dropping speed or failing to connect to the torrent entirely.
I also don't think my internet provider should be looking at my packets at all so they shouldn't be aware of copyright or not, I demand and get privacy in my real mail, why can't I expect it online. Open others mail is a felony, but sharing my packets with filters from the RIAA so they can accuse people?
The first groups deadline was so early, we wouldn't have known about offers from the two other seed groups. After giving us an offer extended our decision period, by over 2 weeks. The second groups deadline was towards the end of that time and actually told us we were accepted slightly early so we could make a decision between the two groups.
YC invited us out for and interview, but that was going to be so much later that we didn't think we could put off the decision that long. PG was great about giving us his thoughts on the matter and talked on the phone with us some about the situation.
In the end we made our decision to accept one of the offers and not do the YC interview. It worked out well for us, but it was a bit stressful and complicated.
One problem is that the programs start at different times and really out of timing need to make decisions earlier. One of the programs we applied to started a week after the YC interviews and obviously by that time they need to know who is going to be showing up. It would be great if they could all sync up the timing a bit more like college semesters are roughly at the same times.
Wonder if they will go for traditional games like chess, pictionary, etc at all.
I hope they come up with something else it was an awesome product.
Not new at all, I was always confused that it took so long for all the media companies to realize you could do the 'exact same' advertising for online video as you did with TV. Just let people watch when ever they want on demand and it would be far superior to cable.
It only took them like 5 years since streaming video quality was decent to figure it out... hehe
