wasfgwp··on Grok 4.6
But that’s not what actually happened.
wasfgwp··on Grok 4.6
As funny as Mechahitler was it was more of a Microsoft Tay moment with the chatbot parroting what Twitter’s users were telling him without guardrails or a safe system prompt. It had nothing to do with grok’s or Musks pro nazi views (or lack thereof)
wasfgwp··on Stealing Reasoning Traces from Proprietary LLM APIs
But they did deliver the internal notes, just told you to not look at them. Also the analogy doesn’t make a lot of sense to me since humans (or companies paying them) own the content they produce. Based on current precedent Anthropic doesn’t have any more rights to the LLM outputs produced by your inputs than you.

Whether that violates the ToS is another matter Anthropic is of course free to sue for damages or stop doing business with you.

You can have as much solar as you want but without batteries you will still need alternative sources.

Also there is the fact that there simply isn’t enough sun in most of Europe in winter regardless of how many panels you install

wasfgwp··on A California Program Is Bringing Down the Cost of Heat Pumps by Buying Bulk
All that shouldn’t be necessary without all the anti-consumer regulations which distort the market and inflate prices.

On the other hand you have all the “socialist” countries in Northern Europe which are much more consumer and business friendly (at least in areas like this).

> faster M3 and M4 Macs are pushing through up to 1.2 Teraflops.

That Intel chip is competing against the A series in the Neo. To get to M you need to spend at least 50% more (and there are considerably better Intel chip in laptops at that price range as well)

Also benchmark performance hardly matters for people buying laptops like this. It just has to be fast enough and not lag when running a handful of apps and have decent battery life (which presumably is the case here)

Australia is pretty unique since it’s extremely suitable for solar. Countries in more northern latitudes, especially in Europe (where you need alternative sources in winter regardless of how much solar you (realistically) build) are in a slightly different situation.

Also aren’t wholesale prices in Australia very cheap or often negative? If that’s the case then the issue very high prices isn’t really on the production side but due to taxes/distribution

10-100+ MW of panels?
wasfgwp··on Iran threatens to hit Gulf states if US launches new strikes
Solar doesn’t really work in Europe during winter outside pf the southern countries so you still need alternative sources.
wasfgwp··on Iran threatens to hit Gulf states if US launches new strikes
It’s not that useful if you don’t have enough storage.

And in more northern latitude you’ll still need to turn those plants back on since just won’t at all for at least a couple of months in winter.

wasfgwp··on Iran threatens to hit Gulf states if US launches new strikes
Well no. Iran is not in a great state and is not doing that well. They are just willing to sacrifice and suffer through several magnitudes more than US ever could.

> The American right has wanted war in Iran

Yeah but at least the brighter ones there like Bolton would have preferred to start a war they knew they could win at least by defining some clear objectives.

The issue is not so much the war (from their perspective) but that US has no clue and at this point what it’s trying to do there.

Compared to Trump Bush was basically Napoleon in how we handled Iran and Afghanistan (at least they knew perfectly well what they wanted to achieve during the conventional part of the war and how to achieve those objectives. Fumbling the aftermath of a war he “wins” is not something Trump will have a chance to do since he’ll never get there)

wasfgwp··on Iran threatens to hit Gulf states if US launches new strikes
I think returning (to some extent) to the status quo is possible but only if Trump’s admin is replaced or at least neutered. Then both Iran and US can make a deal without losing face and expect than US won’t break its word the next day.
wasfgwp··on Iran threatens to hit Gulf states if US launches new strikes
Yes, Trump certainly did this to help Ukraine. Despite doing as much as he can to minimize US support for Ukraine since he came to office…

Also that implies he (or his cabinet) is capable of understanding basic cause and effect and thinking more than one step ahead and there is absolutely zero evidence that’s the case.

> Military–industrial complex and Israel.

Or general stupidity and incompetence. Trump and his cabinet of clowns thought they could score a big win (I suppose like Russia back in 2022). Now they are stuck in shit and have no clue how to get out.

If the military industrial complex was in control of the US gov. they would stop President Cheeto from antagonizing the rest of NATO and therefore reducing the competitiveness of US arms manufacturers.

You are of course right about Israel Netanyahu is playing cheeto like a fiddle..

wasfgwp··on After Losses, Retail Investors Flock to 3x Leverage as 2x Product Are Restricted
A healthy and successful society can’t exist in combination with a winner takes all (or strongly leaning towards it) economic system.

While the pie is growing due to increasing productivity for the most part it’s still zero sum.

wasfgwp··on Norway became a global salmon behemoth. Now it's facing the consequences
I have no problem eating meat as long as people are driving F350 and using private jets. So who should go first and why is it not the ultra rich?
wasfgwp··on Norway became a global salmon behemoth. Now it's facing the consequences
Because it’s not very tasty? Also hoper processed foods “infused” with nutrients don’t sound very appealing..

Most people (in western countries at least) don’t really optimize their food in take this way or want to maximize the amount of protein per $

wasfgwp··on Norway became a global salmon behemoth. Now it's facing the consequences
Because fish farms are generally stationary?
wasfgwp··on Norway became a global salmon behemoth. Now it's facing the consequences
I assumed concentration is a bigger issue than just depth? If it’s done in open sea instead of fjords that also should be an improvement. Of course fish farming in entirely unprotected open sea waters might be trickier
wasfgwp··on Europe EV Sales BEVs Jump 50% & Reach 26% Market Share
In Europe not so much. At least the base Model Y/3 are competitive or even cheaper than equivalent Chinese models.

Price? They are quite cheap these days relative to comparable cars from other manufacturers.

To be fair (and I’m certainly not saying its not a good movie) Odyssey has very little to do with the original story or the worldviews and values described by Homer if anything at all. It’s a modern fantasy movie (i.e. the characters world views are mostly modern) loosely inspired by the Odyssey.

> then your worth is very much linked to your productivity

Also coincidentally it’s highly correlated with who your parents happen to be. But its likely spurious…

The people who have lost the lottery by both by being not born into wealth and also being destined to suffer from physical or mental disabilities, well I guess tough luck..

> the people creating the enormous surplus are in practice worth quite a bit more

Wouldn’t phrase it exactly like that but yes you are right. However it’s very hard to figure out who those people are and to measure their contributions.

It so happens that being paid a lot for your labor doesn’t automatically means that you aren’t a net negative to the society . There are loads of people working in inherently parasitical or exploitative industries who make massive amounts of money but when you add it at all up they contribute significantly less than those people living from charity. Much of the economy is still effectively zero-sum.

Most Catholics also don’t believe in double predestination and think that (more or less but that’s the gist) god has pre-picked people who are destined to be successful and those which are destined to be lazy and worthless or even outright evil. That’s one of the core tenets of Calvinism and similar religions.

wasfgwp··on Chinese chipmaker shares surge 470%
Based on the empirical evidence we have ASML succeeded in spite of the EU not because of it (so “they” is bot exactly fair). There is not much EU has going on besides that when it comes to growth and innovation.

It’s a bit like Novo Nordisk, they had a huge win and then just focused on making as much money while it lasted while more innovative companies ate up their market.

wasfgwp··on Chinese chipmaker shares surge 470%
Except in China’s case where they eventually figured out how to make shovels themselves in plenty of other industries (and likely at some point in the future chip fabrication as well)
