So I looked on internet for an app that could tell me when the sun would set in the right alignment, but all I could find were apps or website telling me WHERE the sun would set AT A GIVEN DATE, not the other way around. Scratching my own itch, I built this app.

Well, for one, this was kind of a sarcastic comment. Second, if I really did this, once the interviewee refuses to give out the password I would congratulate them, saying they passed my test of modern technological common sense: "never EVER give out your password to anyone for any reason".

Next time I interview someone for a position at my company, I'm going to ask them for their Facebook password. If they give it to me, they will be automatically disqualified from the hiring process for lack of common sense.

Looking at the maps for Japan on OSM and iOS 6, if they are using OSM data it must be a very small subset and they're adding a ton of crap over it.

For example: they usually have one label for a train/subway station which is well placed and then a second label for the same station 200m to the south-east. OSM has nothing like this. They must be cobbling many datasets together with no fact-checking...

It's true that, had I been stuck with iOS 6 maps on March 11th last year in Tokyo, instead of good trusty Google Maps, it would have been much harder to find my way home.

Now all I was doing was walking the 5km back to my safe home. Think about the people in Tohoku who might have been looking for the closest shelter with tsunami incoming in the next 10 minutes...

more importantly, how do you get your sucky manager to read that article without being too obvious?

Interestingly, I did a search through Chrome to get to the Google search results page, I was not logged in and everything was in English. I proceed to login and get reverted to Japanese (not my default). As I said before, my settings keep getting changed automagically all the time...

I have a similar compounded problem:

I live in Japan, my systems are configured in English, but when I'm at the office my internet is routed through a proxy which is somehow localized to India (I have no idea where is its actual location).

- I get Google in English most of the time (though sometimes it will pop back to Japanese)

- Google account settings on the other hand will most of the time show in Japanese (I'm OK though, I know the language)

- Search results include Japanese language websites at home

- I get Japanese ads at home and Indian ads at work, especially funny on Youtube.

- Google Maps is all over the place though, sometimes showing me Japan, India but also defaulting to US of A...

Note: you rant about two settings for language, but that makes sense. I want to see the Google interface in English because this is my preferences for interfaces, but I want local search results including Japanese language websites because that is what's useful to me most of the time.

A better explanation is that Yahoo! Japan believes you are a cross-dresser...

I wrote a program for playing video in ASCII on an OpenVMS console (VT220 orange text serial console) for a university project. I played the Matrix dojo fight scene for the final presentation, it was a big success! :)
