So, I started it and was doing something but there is no obvious way to exit. I tried Q,q, Ecc, :q.
I tried `man lnav` in separate terminal - but no man page is provided.
`ps` shows 3 processes which would not die with SIGTERM, have to `kill -9`.
But nice web site :)
There's a non-obvious fact that people with good sight might not realise. You need decent eyesight (or spectacles) to actually use smartwatch functions beyond just telling the time. As I've got older, I need reading glasses for small print, which I don't always have on when I'm away from my computer or not reading. That's killed smartwatches for me.
I think it is pretty obvious. While Jack London's martin Eden is out of copyright and public domain now, if they order Penguin edition they still have to pay them some money for it. So Amazon calculated that it is cheaper to print their own. My guess they could not do this for non-public-domain books without securing rights first.
It is heathwarming to see such mundane small tech bit making front page of HN when elsewhere is is debated whether programming as profession is dead or more broadly if AI will be enslaving humanity in the next decade. :)
First of all, sorry to hear about the poor girl’s ordeal, and I’m glad she was rescued. But after reading about all that complicated digital sleuthing, it basically comes down to this:
"The team realised that in the household with Lucy was her mother’s boyfriend - a convicted sex offender."
I feel like the police should’ve started there: cross-referencing people in her close circle against a list of known sex offenders.
I am not a golang user. If I install as recommended via `go` command on Linux how do I make sure it is updated when new versions are released? I wish it has a .deb package..
Quote: "Knut Hamsun (Literature Prize 1920): In 1943, the Norwegian author Knut Hamsun travelled to Germany and met with Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels. After returning to Norway, he sent his Nobel medal to Goebbels as a gesture of thanks for the meeting. Goebbels was honoured by the gift. The present whereabouts of the medal are unknown."
What a fantastic and timely post! Especially coming from i3 maintainer! Michael did such diligent analasys and saved me (and hopefully others) a lot of time. I was considering trying Wayland/sway and this post answered all my questions and showed me that it is not ready, at least for me, yet.
I suspect the price of a ship compared to economic damages caused by the cut cable is negligible. This is what russia calls "assymetric war". The response should be more economic sanctions.
Sounds like something I could use, but installing a binary via `curl` doesn't sit right with me. Next problem you have is "explain how this thing was installed on my system" followed "is it up to date (including security patches).
Multiple screens support is listed as non-goal. Would that prevent its usage with window managers which support virtiaul desktops? I am i3 user and it is a critical feature for me.
There are many arguable points in this blog post, but I want to highlight just one: the need for formal specification. It is indeed a big issue. However, one must distinguish between a full specification, which is sufficient to prove functional correctness, and a specification of certain security or safety properties, which only allows us to verify those properties. For example, we can easily specify the property that "the program shall never read uninitialised memory" and prove it. That wouldn't guarantee that the program is functionally correct, but it would at least rule out a whole class of potential errors.
