And if you think the third parties they contract out the tracking to won’t sell that info/access for profit, I have some magic beans as well.
I support keeping kids protected. I’m just not naive enough to think the current governments of the world have any interest in achieving that goal while maintaining any semblance of privacy for their citizens.
But it wasn’t censored for no reason, and it’s entirely reasonable to question the motives that led to this specific act of censorship.
The point I’m trying to make here is that you’re assuming certain structures will outlive the governments that created the rules in the first place, which seems unlikely given the significant divergence between the goals of government and the goals of for-profit industry (in theory, at least).
For example: I wonder who will tell the folks with nuclear weapons what to do, and insist Rule 506(b) offerings that don’t benefit said folks be respected? Probably something lost in my gulf of misunderstanding. I sure hope so!
So I believe your point leads to the conclusion that critiques at this time of the ruling authorities within this company might lead to a reorganization of control, such as might best position any further advancements to benefit a wider population in more pro social ways.
(von Braun being a clear “A-Player”, not a CEO, given the terminology at hand)
To put it in more immediate terms: the goal of business is profit. Cutting costs is a great way to do that immediately. It’s only over a longer span that things like Boeing reveal the issues. The goal of artists and the art industry is to create art that moves other people, at acceptable costs. Cutting costs with AI is a great way to do that immediately…
You see where I’m going. Sure maybe we’ll have figured out an entirely new economic paradigm by the time this bill comes due. But I wouldn’t count on it.
And hey, maybe you think art isn’t a career path worth any sort of consideration on this front, and that society will keep humming along just fine when AI takes over in that regard. I sure hope so, because that seems like the obvious conclusion of all current incentive structures.
