volida··on Is Apple Evil?
The are betting on their platform which should be more than enough for the average user, therefore the lack of Flash. Whether that will fire-back to them remains to be seen. It probably wont for the time being.

But why is everyone making so important issue the need for Flash? Except playing videos (for which there are alternative) I don't see much other use.

The average user doesn't care what OS you give them as long as you are meeting their expectations. As long as Safari is full compliant with the web standards I don't care about anything else.

Anyhow, if this is going to be a successful product other hardware makers will follow and you will be able to install Windows.

volida··on I will make 100 redesigns because I'm sick of startups
The colors are better on the originals. Much brighter.
volida··on Ask HN: What should I teach freshmen about Web 2.0 (and maybe entrepreneurship)?
I thought Web 2.0 is old news :p

you should cry for your attitude.

It's called bootstrapping. I am sure you already know it.

volida··on Ask HN: How can I start my own bank? (Let's redesign banks)
If it wasn't obvious that the banking system has its flaws, the recent crisis made it crystal clear.

But, I'm not quite sure what's the exact problem you want to address. You are confusing local banks problems or their services with international issues.

For example Zopa (http://www.zopa.com) targets the loan issue.

Could you please supply more information about the gears being used since 2600 BC in India? Wikipedia's extensive reference doesn't seem to have any http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gears.

Also, your initial statement is sine dicendo, therefore useless and rather questions the reason of your comment.

Obviously the Antikythera mechanism is impressive because of the size and detail of the gears and their usage for computation.

volida··on I've been hacked :(
hey there. This is totally irrelevant but i wanted το know how you manage το be so active on HN. Did you take any breaks i missed?
volida··on Skribit Finally Launches, Aims to Cure Your Writer’s Block

volida··on Review my (redesigned) app
I think different people perceive a UI differently. But, I think it's not so obvious that you want to endorse community communication. Finding/selecting and playing music should be easier.
volida··on Microsoft rips off Plurk
wow.

By the way, what do you mean by obfuscation? Because this is really weird, they even copied the variables. So was the code obfuscated or just trimmed of white space. You should consider using the google closure compiler with advanced optimizations, although you will have το do some extra work το get your javascript compile in advanced mode.

volida··on Review my (redesigned) app
Do you know Grooveshark? Their interface is great for music.

volida··on Ask HN: What equity percentage for a co-founder joining after de-risking?
"commitments from potential high-value customers"

Without more information, I think you are in better position to judge that. But, commitments without any contract is something very volatile.

volida··on Ask HN: What equity percentage for a co-founder joining after de-risking?
You are not clear enough.
volida··on Ask HN: What equity percentage for a co-founder joining after de-risking?
"but points out that since Alice will be assuming less risk at that point"

Why is it going to be less risky for Alice? As I can see there is no software and no revenue/customers.

How are risks going to be lowered exactly so that is attractive for Alice to join?

While there is no product yet, practically this means you will put money into this. If that is the case, then relative to the amount + what your contribution worths vs Alice's, then you find how to split the percentage.

I didn't criticize the idea. I up voted the story.

I just answered specifically to the comment, referring to the security aspect. Paypal was losing 10 million USD from fraud, so hope won't do it for the security.

"assume that people aren't going to be swiping their cards with random people"

Assuming, just won't do it.

volida··on Squareup
"think it's pretty safe to assume"

Hope doesn't scale.

volida··on Loic Le Meur's Vision of Programmable Twitter Clients
Ideas are personal. I just said I am not impressed. Maybe I will in the future when I see what others have built.
volida··on Loic Le Meur's Vision of Programmable Twitter Clients
Programmable e-mail clients e.g. Eudora.

Of course most of the Internet users today, weren't users in the 90s, so this doesn't mean you wont find users to appreciate what you are offering.

volida··on Loic Le Meur's Vision of Programmable Twitter Clients
Although it sounds fancy, this reminds me the 90s. Sorry.
volida··on VC: How a great entrepreneur deals with complexity
i am only refering about requests that involve more than one person and not about multiple requests from one person. E.g. A feature request by more than one person.
volida··on VC: How a great entrepreneur deals with complexity
I'd say it's just a way to identify a degree of necessity.
volida··on VC: How a great entrepreneur deals with complexity
I agree with this one:

"Ignore the first request for everything. If it's really important then they will ask again"

volida··on Ask HN: how do you avoid burnout and getting taken advantage of?
"Don't start your own company because you want to be your own boss." reference http://philip.greenspun.com/business/startup-tips/

Potentially you were the means that their product did succeed thanks to your talent, but assuming they were lucky to have you on board and you play that role it doesn't mean they wouldn't have done it without someone else.

So, what you should do I think is deal with the burnout, feel better and then when everything is clearer decide what you want to do.

About the salary, I suppose the market defines the salary except if you are the founder/co-founder you will always feel being exploited.

volida··on Can Java Be Saved?
Although I will agree with you in general about Java, I have to say that problems/challenges change, therefore you need new specific languages or automation tools for the job.

In my point of view Java is just the tool to create new domain specific languages that solve these new problems.

But, general languages that just make just a bit shorter or less verbose (as everyone who likes to dismiss Java uses quite often), to create a class won't do it for me to change language/platform.

volida··on Ask HN: Confused semi-newbie programmer needs some advice.
you should just pick a language and build a project. The language doesnt matter.

You will probably get involved with many languages in the future.

Every language has its purpose.
