Sabine is very legit
voldacar··on Ask HN: Is there a string which MD5 Sum is all 0xffffffffffff?
It is not known to be surjective.
voldacar··on A social media site for chatbots to talk to each other
RLHF biases the model against negativity and in favor of this vacuous saccharine HR-creature tone that is reminiscent of Linkedin. It's not an inherent property of LLMs.
voldacar··on A social media site for chatbots to talk to each other
This can be blamed entirely on RLHF
voldacar··on Global rice shortage is set to be the biggest in 20 years
The whole point of the US ethanol industry and farm subsidies in general is, like any form of government welfare, to give money to a special interest group (farmers) in exchange for their political support. It's not some kind of benevolent 4-dimensional chess to make the food supply more reliable. The type of corn grown for ethanol is not suitable for human consumption.

What political objective is accomplished by not coddling children?

Steamwebhelper.exe routinely consumes 100+ MB of memory
voldacar··on Joel Warner’s “The Curse of the Marquis de Sade”
It's a form of potlach. Same reason why the elite class promotes ugly architecture and "fashion" that nobody wears.
voldacar··on Ageing studies in five animals suggests how to reverse decline
Do you have a better solution though? I don't see why you dismiss this, it's a real enough problem. If people lived centuries, it would just be eternal tyranny of the old and decrepit over the young and beautiful. It would be a stagnant and ugly world. We already have gerontocracy, even with regular lifespans.

voldacar··on They’re selling nudes of imaginary women on Reddit

Where in the constitution is that power described or given?
voldacar··on The Case for Banning Crypto
>The root of the problem is that cryptocurrency assets can be created at no cost and without limit, and an unlimited supply of assets makes a system more vulnerable to booms and busts.

Hmm, this sounds familliar. What else can be created at no cost and without limit? Booms and busts... that also seems to ring a bell

voldacar··on Physical 3x3x3x3 hypercube and other physical 4d twisty puzzles [video]
I suspect that what threw you off was the dumb term 'imaginary', not the idea that the real numbers could have an algebraic closure.
voldacar··on One man’s quest to revive the great American vacuum tube
The impression of rarity? They are expensive because of actual rarity.

These things are highly labor intensive to make and producing tubes with a consistent level of quality requires extreme attention to parts tolerances and procedure. Do you buy tubes or are you just opining on something you have no experience with? I would kill to be able to get a pair of good 300Bs for 100$

voldacar··on Twitter is dying
Thinking of Musk as a comic book villain is a political signal now, so members of a certain political tribe are incentivized to one up each other in performing this signal publicly
voldacar··on Windows needs to stop showing tabloid news
Could you share your ISO or the process you used to make it? Was it easy or is there a bunch of esoteric stuff you have to fiddle with? I'm switching to 10 for my new PC build and I'm about to do a ton of research on decrapifying the OS
voldacar··on The Efficient Frontier of Fat Loss
If you try and fail to eat less food, the correct conclusion is not that eating less food "doesn't work"
voldacar··on The Efficient Frontier of Fat Loss
It works for everyone, due to conservation of mass and conservation of energy
voldacar··on Ask HN: How much of inflation is caused by supply rather than demand issues?
So by capital destruction you're referring to shutting down large sectors of the economy due to the coronavirus? Or was this already taking place before 2020?

I didn't think you were referring to a conspiracy. I just didn't know what you meant, since if you have capital, it's not really rational to destroy it

voldacar··on Ask HN: How much of inflation is caused by supply rather than demand issues?
Can you elaborate on capital destruction? Who is destroying capital and why?

voldacar··on Altstore: Home for apps that push the boundaries of iOS
My computer belongs to me and nobody else. Anything I desire to do with it is "legit" and "useful".

Maybe you could use a language model embedding to define some kind of semantic distance.

There are no temporary measures. Passports were a temporary measure
voldacar··on Midsize US Banks Ask FDIC to Insure Deposits for Two Years
Part of this has to be because all these people are geriatrics. The consequences are the next generation's problem.
voldacar··on Bourbon and Branch Water (2013)
There is some complicated chemistry that occurs at the liquid-air boundary and is affected by slight dilution.
