Super normal, so great for America
voganmother42··on So Long and Thanks for All the Words: A Toast to Douglas Adams
Oh and I should say, I enjoy all the different Adams adaptations(even the movie!), but my personal favorite that I think is less well known: the HHGG audiobooks read by the author. The timing and phrasing of Douglas Adams was truly marvelous!

I highly recommend “High Vaultage” from that list (and the podcast that preceded it is also absolutely outstanding and hilarious).

I am a huge fan of Sir Terry Pratchett and definitely second that recommendation as well, both offer a wonderfully unique perspective.

Im with you! The Golgafrinchan government bits of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe and the opening of Life the Universe and Everything are my retreats when things are rough, but the entire series is amazing!
voganmother42··on A Letter to the American People
Glad private industry can charge people to file their taxes because of how efficient everything is now, truly an inspiration.

The brilliant use of AI to ignore all the conflicts of interest is very innovative too!

Truly the ability to so efficiently not provide any services is impressive, I think they were heavily inspired by https://github.com/kelseyhightower/nocode

voganmother42··on Elon Musk appears to make back-to-back fascist salutes at inauguration rally
“People's interpretation of this 3-second video clip are determined by their prior feelings about this person.”

I and many others see something very blatant in the video, and you dismissing that is lazy and frankly, it makes you look biased.

Ive generally been impressed with HN moderation, but this is a very glaring exception.

voganmother42··on Tesla reports 1.1% sales drop for 2024, first annual decline in at least 9 years
I gave a subjective reason for a preference, the difference is I didn’t pretend it was anything other than an opinion.
voganmother42··on Tesla reports 1.1% sales drop for 2024, first annual decline in at least 9 years
You cannot relate to describing someone’s subjective opinion as blatantly false?

Teslas may be bought across the spectrum, none of that is remotely relevant.

Tesla owners are often insufferable to listen to as they go on and on about their cars, like they make vegans seem a treat by comparison, that alone may dissuade people - I know it does for me.

voganmother42··on Tesla reports 1.1% sales drop for 2024, first annual decline in at least 9 years
Right, and people must like whats popular! Preferences are false and they simply have yet to succumb to the wisdom of your position!

I disagree with your opinion so its wrong!

Uterine replicators were a very cool aspect of the Vorkosigan Saga by the very talented Lois McMaster Bujold.

It was extra interesting to see how the technology was adopted by different cultures and what a massive impact it had.

voganmother42··on Researcher finds flaw in a16z website that exposed some company data
Humans are gonna human, if you have an environment where you fail to account for this, this will happen. Reminds me of a dev dropping a production database, or the aws engineer who incorrectly entered a command and brought down s3: many things have gone wrong to even be at this point, blaming a human for behaving like a human in an inhospitable environment is silly. Effort is almost always better spent building a system which is safer to operate for the people involved.
voganmother42··on Panic at the Job Market
I laughed and really enjoyed "Employment Vibes"
voganmother42··on Panic at the Job Market
I think there may indeed be some satire or silly fun going on, for instance: "By the power of drawing two lines, we see correlation is causation and you can’t argue otherwise" and the "goal is to earn $69,420 per month"
