vipa123··on Jeff Bezos: Work-Life Balance Is 'Debilitating Phrase'
They'll fire you.

Their relationship with you is extraction at the foundation.

Once the extraction costs exceed the marginal cost of switching extraction locations, the switch is inevitable.

It's cute of him to say that when his work output is going almost entirely directly back to him (through his prestige gains, increased wealth, etc) and his work output is being leveraged by orders of magnitude by the employees, and contractors, and service providers, under him whom he's trying to maximize extraction from.

His work is his life, and his work/life is being leveraged by others.

If I weren't so numb, I might actually be cynical about it.

vipa123··on Third member of FDA panel resigns over approval of Biogen Alzheimer's drug
Get people to believe I have a drug that hasn't been proven to work yet despite attempts to do so?? That seems pretty easy.
vipa123··on Third member of FDA panel resigns over approval of Biogen Alzheimer's drug
I have a drug that is just as effective, will the FDA approve it too?
vipa123··on Congress fires warning shot at NASA after SpaceX Moon lander award

vipa123··on Flipped an element in an old lens and got 'magic' bokeh (2018)
1. Buy two of those lenses, modify one to cause this effect. 2. Take tens of thousands (possibly orders of magnitude more, possibly less) of photographs of the exact same scene with near identical lighting conditions. 3. Use both sets to train a deep learning algorithm to take input photographs and produce the same output. 4. Grow dataset until reached desired look for general input photograph.

vipa123··on US Senator introduces ‘baby bonds’ bill to give newborns a $1K savings account
What do people think of this? Does anyone know of an analysis against it? (And for it?) Seems like it would be inflationary, to have millions of 18 year olds suddenly have an order of magnitude more wealth than they do today. Could help level the playing field a bit. I would be upset to be born the year before this was introduced though....

Do you have more details about this?
vipa123··on The account of realDonaldTrump will be locked for 12 hours
What were the tweets and videos?
vipa123··on The account of realDonaldTrump will be locked for 12 hours
Exactly. Censorship, which is done by the government, prevents speech on all platforms.

If a person cannot tweet they can still blog, newsletter, email, and even whisper their truth via their free speech to the next person all they like.

vipa123··on Kyle Bass tweets Jack Ma will never be seen again
It's natural selection.

You can only get a little power and wealth by pushing against higher power and wealth to get a little more.

Over time you get a lot of power and wealth, so naturally you'll eventually push against the ultimate power.

Unfortunately, in the case of the people's republic, if you push against the ultimate power you pay the ultimate price.

vipa123··on Planned Harvard balloon test in Sweden stirs solar geoengineering unease
Yeah, I can't quite understood the resistance to this. People against it would have us play chicken with the future (a future they are ostensibly worried about) in the hope that we can turn enough in the direction they want at the last moment. "If we can't avoid it this way, then it's better if we don't avoid it."

I accept climate change is an existential threat to our civilization and species, and all directions are on the table to mitigate the threat.

vipa123··on Ask HN: Is Signal still a good app to use for encrypted messaging?
Not nitpicky. It was quite relevant to the thread.
