vim-guru··on Why LSP?
I haven't looked much into the implementation details of LSP, so I was not aware of custom-commands upon writing my comment. Maybe it hasn't stifled at all, but efforts have definitely been split, as prior art is still maintained years after LSP's launch
vim-guru··on Why LSP?
It's catching up. You can use them in tandem though and ignore the features that overlap by configuration. I use Eglot with a bunch of different languages. Clojure is the only one where I still use other packages for dealing with similar things.
vim-guru··on Why LSP?
I have feelings about the last paragraph there. Most protocols are limiting by nature, so although LSP has made wonders to a lot of languages for a lot of editors out there; I'm stuck thinking that it might have stifled progress for some as well. I don't have a proposed solution or anything, just pondering if we could have done better.
vim-guru··on Literate programming is much more than just commenting code
I've written a fair share of literate code.

It works well for personal stuff where you would like to leave some bits of information for yourself (typically, configuration files).

It works well for small libraries where good documentation is important.

It works well for visualisation-work, where you may combine multiple languages and data-formats without writing API's for each.

In larger scale apps though and with collaboration; you run into problems with tooling on multiple levels. I am working on tackling scale, but collaboration is tricky. Mostly because you need structure to collaborate and then you will likely end up with an outline that's pretty close to a directory-tree and then you've lost one of the good bits of literate code in my opinion.

vim-guru··on We Switched to Mattermost
Why did we all actually leave IRC? I haven’t tried Mattermost, but IRC is/was sure better than Slack
vim-guru··on Mathematics Cheat Sheet [pdf]
Wow. What a treasure trove Thanks for posting!

vim-guru··on Data fetching on the web still sucks
I think Fulcro has mechanisms to tick all your boxes and then some. Welcome to the future
vim-guru··on Chrome Is Bad
I'm starting to think that there's some truth to OP's accusations. The fan on my MacBook has had a tendency to spin like crazy and it's been quite unresponsive at times for it's spec and age. When this post came out, I went for it and deleted it all and it's been acting surprisingly more responsive. Doing a conference-call used to kick of the fan after about a minute or so, the fan doesn't make a sound at all now. I've put in an order for an M1, but I think dropping Chrome (Canary in my case) could have been a worthwhile solution.

To add to my suspicion. A month or so ago, I was running Big Sur beta and was asked to give a system service from Google, admin access and restart. That in turn broke my Mac, so I had to spend hours to get back up and running. Why does the service require admin-access? Why did it require me to restart my computer?

vim-guru··on The Birth of Unix with Brian Kernighan
I've been enjoying your podcasts a lot over the last couple of years. Good topics, interviews and tone. Just wanted to give you some praise for a job well done.
vim-guru··on EU Draft Council Declaration Against Encryption [pdf]
I think this sounds like a fair proposal
vim-guru··on Doubleclicking on the Web (2015)
I'm certain that there's a lot of these issues that could be solved browser-side. Something for a breaking html6 maybe
vim-guru··on Show HN: Excel-like table editing for Markdown
this
vim-guru··on Moving towards a faster web
Switched about a year ago to duckduckgo. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but the search results are pretty darn good. Give it a go :)
vim-guru··on Why Isn't Functional Programming the Norm? [video]
Sorry, but I think you need to take another look at Datomic
vim-guru··on Sticky Footer
For websites this is just fine, but there's still the case with web-apps where you want the background to be the colour of that footer or header, so that overflow scrolling looks good.
vim-guru··on Which companies are using Erlang, and why?
This. And it's ability to be introspected in realtime. It has a REPL-experience very much like lisp's do
vim-guru··on Edward Snowden says he would like to return home
This! Both Snowden and Obama seems like reasonable guys, this should have been settled years ago.
vim-guru··on QuickJS JavaScript Engine
Yeah, interesting..
vim-guru··on 1991 – a server-side web framework written in Forth
I know Karsten Schmidth made a browser REPL you can try. I don't know the address, but I think he mentions it in this talk: https://juxt.pro/blog/posts/XT16-karsten-schmidt.html
vim-guru··on Shanghai City in panoramic view in 195 gigapixels
This is quite creepy
vim-guru··on Show HN: Toodles – Project management directly from the TODO's in your code
I made the very same thing years ago. I remember ending up removing the web-interface and use the CLI and vim-wrapper instead. I still think the syntax of the comments etc was pretty good http://hkjels.github.io/ntask/
vim-guru··on Org-mode reference card [pdf]
Since you mention Asana your probably interested in the task-management side of org-mode. I know people simply check the documents into version-control. Whenever you've done a pull, your task-list has been updated as well. I know someone also made an integration for Asana, but I'm not sure how stable it is
vim-guru··on Org-mode reference card [pdf]
That list would be never-ending, but the thing that really makes it for me is the way you can do literate programming. On the other hand, I can rarely use it because my colleagues don't use Emacs
vim-guru··on Elm is Wrong
I have just started to code Elm myself, but have yet to hit a wall. I do think it's strange that we don't have typeclasses, but I read somewhere that an alternative solution is in the pipeline.

From Evan's comment, I think he would like you to pick up the discussion and provide some more food for thought.

I'm sure the community would also like to hear about the other issues your encountering as well. I, for one, would.

vim-guru··on Show HN: My first web app – PDF memo creator
Should it perhaps be Prestigious Technologies? And I suggest that you tint your placeholder-text a bit, so it doesn't look like the actual input.
vim-guru··on Why I'm Not a React Native Developer
You don't have to write JavaScript code to use React Native: https://github.com/drapanjanas/re-natal
vim-guru··on Vis: A Vim-Like Text Editor
That would indeed be helpful.
vim-guru··on Vis: A Vim-Like Text Editor
Obviously, structural editing like that of SAM. Vim also does not have native support for multiple cursors.
vim-guru··on Org Mode for Emacs – Your Life in Plain Text
I've been using Org-mode and babel for about a month; and I'm sold! I think the way I was writing software before outlines and the literate nature of Org-mode was just wrong. The software you write when you do literate programming can be read like a book, following the data-flow chronologically. That's a really attractive trait if you are to share your code with others and of course your future self.
