vijaydev··on I am doing a startup (putting virtual machines on the web)
Nice idea! Congrats for the venture!

A small feedback about the site. The email signup UI is the coolest I have seen. However, I would like the string "you@example.com" to be retained when I click in the text box and then click outside. Currently, it disappears when out of focus after clicking inside the text box once.

vijaydev··on JQuery deconstructed
good concept! but the colors are bad on eyes!
vijaydev··on Ask HN: What do you waste too much time on as a developer?
and upvoting them...
vijaydev··on Ask HN: Any Need for Office to PDF Conversion API?
Have a look at JODConverter - http://www.artofsolving.com/opensource/jodconverter

I have used it in the past from my Java applications in the same way you intend to. Here is a list of supported formats of conversion: http://www.artofsolving.com/opensource/jodconverter/guide/su...

vijaydev··on Which loads faster? Pit websites against each other.
neatly done and pretty useful.
vijaydev··on Git for Computer Scientists
I disagree. Majority of us who use a version control do not need to know the internals. I can be a proficient git user without even knowing what a DAG is and that's the beauty of it. The software is so transparent that I don't need a degree in computer science to use it. However, learning the internals gives a nice perspective which helps in using the system better.
vijaydev··on Git for Computer Scientists
crisp & concise. The analogy about refs being post-its is a nice one!
vijaydev··on Ask HN: How can I get better at design?
http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1103578 - Check this out. Has pointers to lots of good resources.
vijaydev··on Tim Bray doesn't know operator precedence rules
brilliant!
vijaydev··on ASK HN: How do you motivate a lazy co-founder?
trolling :)
vijaydev··on ASK HN: How do you motivate a lazy co-founder?
Stop seeing him as just a "dev", give him his due respect for being co-founder of a company and see things improve!
vijaydev··on IE’s big leap forward; CSS3 selectors fully supported
better late than never.. It came too late, but it definitely does not look like too little.
vijaydev··on How can I write an interface like Gmail?
don't we take pride in calling ourselves hackers? Why on earth otherwise are we on HN? :P
vijaydev··on Redis 101
A great introduction to Redis!
vijaydev··on Why There Will Be No Macs in 2010 (2006)
I stopped reading once I hit the "Cat Names" paragraph. Complete BS!
vijaydev··on There Are No Famous Programmers
I highly doubt that hiring managers are going to have the time to read code. Very few people go through a candidate's code before an interview.
vijaydev··on iPhone 4 Is Nice, But It's Not Enough to Slow Android
Liked the finishing touch: "A smartphone can't be smart if it's married to a company as dumb as AT&T."
vijaydev··on Getting things done in the Capital of India
really, is this HN material?

vijaydev··on Ask HN: Please review my project - TwitVance
TwitVance (http://www.twitvance.com) is an application to schedule tweets that I created using Rails in my spare time. Feedback and suggestions most welcome.

Prominent features: Ability to add multiple twitter accounts, integrated bit.ly URL shortening.

second that.
vijaydev··on Building Highly Reliable Websites For Small Companies
Excellent article. Let me start writing my check list now.
vijaydev··on Tips for Tech Leads
I think you got me wrong. I'm one of those engineers who flip over :) What I meant was that the employers do not understand this behavior and all they could do to prevent this is to block access to the Internet which actually harms our work more.
vijaydev··on Tips for Tech Leads
flipping over to browse the web the moment you have a couple of minutes free is probably why some companies block access. Employers expect their employees to focus on their job and not flip over at every chance. But what the blocking means for us is something that they ll never understand..

vijaydev··on Gmail: Drag and drop attachments onto messages
how?
vijaydev··on Java drops to #2 in TIOBE index
Quoting from http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index....: "The scores for C have been pretty constant through the years, varying between the 15% and 20% market share for almost 10 years. So the main reason for C's number 1 position is not C's uprise, but the decline of its competitor Java."
vijaydev··on Google exec worries over 'rudderless' Java
exactly my thoughts about the wording chosen. At least the op could have changed the title when posting here.
vijaydev··on Architecture awards and relationships (Derek Sivers married today)
