vesuvianvenus··on Building 2k Unique SEO Pages with GPT-3
Same here. Occasionally I will do an esoteric search and the only responses I get are obviously pages which were written automatically. They do not contain normal language, but rather a mish-mash of meaningless-outside-of-a-context text content. Very weird and hacky-- I always feel suspicious of such pages as if viewing them would somehow get me one step closer to getting my computer hacked.
vesuvianvenus··on Ask HN: Do you do custom monitoring for your applications?
I don't actually use this, but I found it recently... I recently added the NoScript extension to my browser so I can shut down advertising-related tracking scripts.

As a result, now I see all kinds of interesting scrips that get loaded when I visit a site.

One day visiting CreditKarma.com I saw "Sentry.io" ... hmm that sounds interesting...

Turns out it's for monitoring applications. I don't use it, but thought I'd mention it, as I might investigate using it in an upcoming app.

Wow. AI enabled Zapier to create ~29,800 variations of landing pages... Just so they can market to anyone who googles some variation of apps that Zapier offers integrations for. 29,800 virtually worthless, promotional content-marketing articles.

Essentially, AI is polluting human-written content with bland, AI-written content. This is terrible.

This is the type of thing that makes the internet less valuable and less usable. There should be a disclaimer on content/articles created by AI. To filter them out from a web search would be a fantastic feature.

vesuvianvenus··on Tesla’s headquarters will move to Austin
North-South traffic in Austin is the big problem. Because Austin stretches from North to South-- from the suburb of Kyle in the South, or the suburb of Georgetown to the North.

East-West commuting is much easier. The wise strategy is to live East/West of town, not North/South.

vesuvianvenus··on Terraform vs. AWS CloudFormation
"tempted to give Terraform a look, but if I do, it will be terraform + CDK probably: https://github.com/hashicorp/terraform-cdk "

The above package supports typescript as a language but not nodejs ... no thank you.

I don't want to see microsoft products (typescript) taking the place of the original, open source products (javascript/nodejs) upon which they are based

vesuvianvenus··on E-Ink Magic Calendar that runs off a battery powered Raspberry Pi
Nice project & explanation.

I can see myself expanding on this (maybe even re-hashing your library essentially) running:

1. a Calendar,

2. next to a Stock Ticker,

3. next to a Financial accounts (i.e. all current asset) combined with Financial goals.

I've been thinking about the third one for a while. E-Ink / a simple, low power, monochromatic screen (similar to Amazon Kindle eReader) would be a good choice.

vesuvianvenus··on Ask HN: Why is Node.js hated so much?
"async/await" makes it very easy to reason about async stuff-- async stuff can be done in series, or it can branch off into a pyramid structure of tasks, etc.

I think its awesome :D

vesuvianvenus··on Ask HN: Why is Node.js hated so much?
I've only run into one person IRL who smacktalks Javascript. Then later I edited his Ruby script. And I was like "uhh... this could all be done in nodejs, or python, it really doesnt matter". He said javascript is a toy language.

Whereas... I had worked with php, python, R, and once I got to NodeJS I fell in love with it. Then picked up ReactJS

And man, so glad I went this route. I never have to apply to jobs again, given the hunger of recruiters for full stack JS devs

vesuvianvenus··on 'Cottagecore' and the rise of the modern rural fantasy
Australia is a well developed country and an analogue to your "the American-model". I'd call it the "Developed Industrial Nation"-model to be more precise.

Not implying this with you, but I think it must be a trend of Australians to consider Americans "elitist"-- that the rich, obese Americans are the greedy ones ruining everything.

It's just funny to me, since Australians follow the same model of western-european-derived economics & western-european-derived government.
