verbatim··on Duplicate SSH Keys Everywhere
virt-sysprep from libguestfs does this.

verbatim··on Linus Torvalds on HFS+
I'm not sure that's terribly different from ext4's lineage, which is generally accepted (AFAIK) as a pretty good file system, even if not cutting-edge.
verbatim··on How Unreliable is UDP?
Switches dropping TCP packets means slower TCP rather than lost information. This is what TCP is designed to do when it loses packets, it's not related to UDP vs. TCP priority.

You can use TCP as this canary as well by monitoring a counter of how many retransmissions have been performed.

I don't either, but I looked at their home page, and am not really inclined to trust performance claims of someone that uses a graph like the one under "General Benchmarks: Higher is Better" which uses a nice smooth curve to demonstrate... nothing, since the different data points are unrelated.

Is USB vulnerable or are many USB implementations vulnerable?

RAID-6 and RAID-10 are the usual go-tos.

Yes, this looks normal for a research/academic paper. It isn't a news article. The details are important.
verbatim··on TrueCrypt developer says no to license change for forking
It seems like a pretty good answer to me. If he feels that the code is bad enough that newcomers are unlikely to efficiently be able to work with it and not make it unsafe by making mistakes, he's probably correct.
verbatim··on Star Wars opening crawl from 1977 in HTML/CSS/JS
I assume this is what caused the somewhat strange result of "starship" being underlined as a misspelled word?
verbatim··on Speed Up Git Pull
Doesn't this only help if github lets you leave ssh connections open and not doing anything for long periods of time?

Surely if they do, they won't for too long if lots of people start doing this.

verbatim··on Quickly navigate your filesystem from the command line
Interesting idea. I've the bash built-in "pushd" and "popd" for a long time for similar reasons, but those effectively limit you to treating the history as a stack rather than an arbitrary list.
verbatim··on Should We Abolish User Access to rm? (2011)
Leaving aside technical arguments against doing this, I don't think it would solve the problem anyway. Users would inevitably decide that they want a real "remove" operation (because yours is now wasting their disk space, etc.), and teach themselves to call their new fancy "really_rm" alias. And then just accidentally delete files with that instead of "rm".

(Anyone ever gotten too used to shift-Delete in Windows? Yeah...)

Instead, automate backups or file system snapshots.

verbatim··on How to kill an unresponsive SSH session
<enter>~Ctrl-Z will suspend the ssh session, too.

I've also found it useful to do <enter>~C - then you can configure port forwarding without having to open a new ssh session.

(~C opens a command line, enter "help" for available commands.)

You say this in a way that implies that it's not feasible to do such a thing. I'm pretty sure that all of those components have been open sourced in various projects, just maybe not all in the same system.
verbatim··on AP Classes Are a Scam
I took a couple of AP courses and got college credit for them (Calculus and Chemistry). I wanted to take AP computer science, but it was dropped since not enough students enrolled in it.

Outside of the "saving time/money in college" point, here's my take: most of high school's classes wasted a lot of my time. They moved very slow and were not challenging enough for me to bother engaging with them. At least the AP courses were more interesting and challenging, which meant I spent less time sitting around bored and more time actually learning things.

I think that was a pretty good value.

verbatim··on Error handling style in C
It's pretty hard to make a good argument against the forward goto method. I have found it handy to refer those who want to continually argue this point to the following CERT article:
