vegasbrianc··on Wordpress on AWS: smooth and pain free
I run https://ghost.org/ inside a Docker container and I'm quite happy with it.
vegasbrianc··on How to Set Up and Deploy to a 1000-Node Docker Swarm
This project is busy deploying a 2000 node Docker Swarm Cluster - https://github.com/swarm2k/swarm2k
vegasbrianc··on Personal data of Dutch telecom providers poorly protected
Excellent article and reporting! I’m actually not surprised at all of such a blatant security risk. This is something to be expected from a shared computer on a retail floor with a few shifts a day using the same terminal. I’m actually shocked that this was not exploited earlier.
vegasbrianc··on Tesla selects Nevada for battery plant
Super news for Nevada! This is a state that really needs some jobs outside of the casino industry.
vegasbrianc··on First US appeals court hears argument to shut down NSA database
When the NSA claims the the Database is deleted. How are we really to know anyway?
vegasbrianc··on Van Gogh Museum
Very frustrating to navigate with click and scroll. Clicking on the black box in the upper right hand corner while using English reverts back to Dutch.
vegasbrianc··on A Casino Town Rolls the Dice on High-Tech
As a former Casino engineer in Las Vegas, I'm happy to see Nevada diversifying away from Casinos.

Zappos is trying to revitalize downtown Las Vegas into a tech-hub and Reno's excellent location makes for a perfect outlaying office from Silicon Valley. That and the excellent tax system in Nevada make for an win-win for companies and employees.

I really hope the projects continue to move forward for the sake of the residents of Nevada.

vegasbrianc··on Samsung I'm tired of waiting...
I totally agree and see your point. It is personal preference in the end. But I would really appreciate some manufacture support.
vegasbrianc··on Show HN: I made an HN for the financial industry
I don't understand how copying a website almost feature by feature can make it to the front page of HN
vegasbrianc··on Linux Voice

vegasbrianc··on U.S. Expats Balk at Tax Law: American Citizen Renunciations Are Soaring
I am an American who has lived in Europe (Netherlands and now Switzerland) for over 10 years. I have also traveled all over Europe and Asia without ever having a problem of being an American or apologized for the fact. Nor will I ever put a Maple leaf on my suit case or backpack (Nothing against Canucks BTW)but I am proud of where I come from. If you cannot take criticism from other people from other countries then stay home. I find it a great way to understand other people/cultures.
vegasbrianc··on Ask HN: do you trust your "secure email" now?
Go back to the stone age. Hand written notes with couriers.

vegasbrianc··on University of Glasgow builds Raspberry PI Cloud Server
Hi michaelxia, this project has been in the works for awhile but, the updated post from today shows some really interesting potential on the Management layer as well as the project's current status. Really cool stuff!!
vegasbrianc··on A Terrifying, Fascinating Timelapse of 30 Years of Human Impact on Earth
Wow. It is quite scary these pictures. I lived in Vegas for 10 years and personally saw Lake Mead slowly going away every year. I hope more people will take notice and help anyway they can.
vegasbrianc··on Paypal To Drop VMware From 80,000 Servers and Replace It With OpenStack
Isn't the idea of Open Source technologies? Customizing software for your particular use?
vegasbrianc··on Paypal To Drop VMware From 80,000 Servers and Replace It With OpenStack
Thanks. Will definitely check it out.
vegasbrianc··on Formerly Top Secret NSA Cryptologs From 1974-1997
I have to say page 19 of the last publication is quite interesting. They talk about the Sentinel database filter on Sybase. https://www.nsa.gov/public_info/_files/cryptologs/cryptolog_...
vegasbrianc··on Stop Working at that Coffee Shop! Alternative Places to do Work
I find that having a 4G wireless hotspot is the hot setup. If the weather is nice you can be outside while not being tied down to a specific location. Only restriction is coverage & power.
vegasbrianc··on Declassified: America's Secret Flying Saucer
Thanks for that ZoFreX. I will be sure to look it up. Do you know who did the documentary?
vegasbrianc··on Declassified: America's Secret Flying Saucer
