vayarajesh··on Ask HN: How do you stay motivated to work on side projects?
I have too faced demotivation when it comes to side-projects. Until recently (64 days to be exact) I have started spending my morning's first 3 hours on my side projects.. and these side projects are not to make any extra pocket money.. but just that it is interesting and I get excited to learn something new while doing something which is interesting.

I get motivated even more seeing the github streak (github.com/rajeshvaya) and it a very small measure which helps me going as well.. everyday for past 64 days I have made sure I spend my first 3 hours of my morning time (even on weekends.. I make sure I get up early)

after you get this initial start it is kind of self-motivating which will keep you moving forward.

What i think is just 2 important things to get this:

1. Work on the projects which interest you and not because other people think its cool or just to make little amount of money

2. Try to spend first few hours of morning on your side project rather than ad-hoc amount of time and different time-span of day. Keep it regular, same time just like gym

vayarajesh··on Merry Christmas to HN
Merry Christmas to you as well
vayarajesh··on WhatsApp Co-Founder Donates $1M to FreeBSD Foundation
>> "This marks the largest single donation to the Foundation since its inception almost 15 years ago"

Al though it is awesome that they have received this donation but it is such a shame it took 15 years to get a $1M donation for such a great work they are doing.. and on the other side silly small apps get millions of funding which go in total waste and those apps might be using FreeBSD for their production servers or development

Its nice to see FreeBSD getting appreciated

vayarajesh··on Help the Gnome Foundation Defend the Gnome Trademark Against Groupon
wow.. i am just thinking that how did a company like Groupon thought they can get away with "did not hear" about gnome.. either they are extremely dumb to not think this through or they have already planned on how to defend and lawyer up with the big bucks
vayarajesh··on Help the Gnome Foundation Defend the Gnome Trademark Against Groupon
How is it possible for Groupon to not know about GNOME? they probably have so many development machines running GNONE in their offices..

I find it hard to believe that none of their tech team has never heard of gnome..

Infact they should be grateful for GNONE for it being a huge part of linux operating systems and they must have surely used it during the course of groupon's existance

vayarajesh··on The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine (1997)
Thanks!
vayarajesh··on The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine (1997)
Wow indeed!

> "There are two versions of this paper -- a longer full version and a shorter printed version. The full version is available on the web and the conference CD-ROM"

Does anyone have a link to the full version? I would love to read more in detail.. it is so inspiring

I think after E=MC2 , The PageRank algorithm "PR(A) = (1-d) + d (PR(T1)/C(T1) + ... + PR(Tn)/C(Tn))" is the formula which changed the entire world..

vayarajesh··on Tim Cook Speaks Up
India is far from been mature and accept for what we actually are.. in India you will mostly see people who are pretentious and care more about society thinks about them than what they actually feel..

Same is the case for a treatment for "women".. in india they are treated unequally.. the boy child gets all the care, education, preferences and most of all "FREEDOM" and girl cant even do anything of her choice.. india people still believe in child marriage..

I don't understand what makes gay people unacceptable? they are not hurting the society like the criminals do.. they are not disrespecting anyone.. they are simple believing on what they feel is right and who is to decide that being gay is wrong..

I am happy Tim is supporting the gay community because if 100 normal people claim and accept to gay it would have been neglected.. however Apple's CEO supporting the gay community should help a little..

There is one basic rule in life that "Be good, Do good.. Never dis-respect any human or animal"

vayarajesh··on Tim Cook Speaks Up
Never expected that! but still lot of respect for him.. it takes lot of guts to speak up being the CEO of the worlds biggest company!..
vayarajesh··on Ask HN: Where do you see web and desktop apps in 5 years?
I think in the next 5 years the focus will be shifted from desktop and web apps to virtual reality (Oculus) and smart hardware apps (smart homes, wearables etc).

Even for web apps it is going to be more mobile oriented than actual standard web view

vayarajesh··on Angular 2 Core
Although I am looking forward to the Angular 2.x mainly to see what it has in store in terms of performance.. i had had faced performance issues with Angular regularly
vayarajesh··on Angular 2 Core
It took a lot of time for me to get the hang of AngularJS 1.x and now AngularJS 2 seems very promising but shifting along with the new syntax, programming logic is really painful..

They should provide a path to easily shift programmers thinking from 1.x to 2 (hopefully it is already in their roadmap)

vayarajesh··on Ask HN: How can i help my dad?
He can try on http://angel.co where mostly startups are listed and he can get what he loves may be. (there are remote jobs as well)
vayarajesh··on Microsoft demos breakthrough in real-time translated conversations
Few years back when Google was working on Google Wave project (the new email) they also had done a similar translation.. but i think it was only at text and document level. Microsoft has come up with some real problem solving solutions specially when the world is more Globally connected. Kudos to Microsoft research.
vayarajesh··on Webhook – demolishes Kickstarter target
I like the idea of building your own CMS but the idea of hosting on their servers might be the deal breaker.

Although i think this can be a very nice open source project and change the idea of CMS which is been set by projects like wordpress/drupal etc.

vayarajesh··on Ask HN: Do you have a side project you want to sell?
I would like to work on a side project with the owner of the side project to make it better or larger in terms of performance and features-set. If anyone interested in collaborating on the pre-existing side project let me know :)

Also if you want to sell your assets of your side projects(if it reached the start-up state) you can use the http://shutdown.io/ (which was posted before few weeks on HN)

vayarajesh··on LibreSSL
nice! :)
vayarajesh··on LibreSSL
May be you missed to read the footer of the page.. the last line, Infact they are also trying to make the same point as you said (why not use Arial or Times and get rid of comic sans)
vayarajesh··on LibreSSL
I am not sure if anyone noticed the footer of the page. It not the PR's fault or anything to blame PR. Its just a link for donation :).. they are trying to improve the standards of the web by wanting/helping to get rid of comic sans font
vayarajesh··on LibreSSL
They should donate to replace comic sans with this much morder version of comic sans http://comicneue.com/
vayarajesh··on LibreSSL
There is a pro-type / mordern-type version of comic sans http://comicneue.com/ :)
vayarajesh··on LibreSSL
Check the footer (last line) of the page.. its just a page for donation to get rid of comic sans :)
vayarajesh··on LibreSSL
Comic sans?? lol!

This page scientifically designed to annoy web hipsters. Donate now to stop the Comic Sans and Blink Tags

vayarajesh··on Localtunnel.me
I think it is alright to use it.. its just to share the work in progress so it doesnt matter if it is vulnerable
vayarajesh··on Localtunnel.me
Nice!! so easy to setup and use.. awesome work
vayarajesh··on Bend It, Charge It, Dunk It: Graphene, the Material of Tomorrow
Wooow! this is freaking awesome if this really can happen!
vayarajesh··on Why have today's designers stopped dreaming?
very true, specially in the field of web-design. If you browse the latest 10 pages of themeforest.net templates you will find all similar designs (infact exactly what you mentioned in your article in a detail manner :) )

Since the comeback of flat design everybody is becoming a designer because all they need to do is put big pictures and 1 or 2 colors and bordered boxes and vola! you are a designer

vayarajesh··on Ask HN: CTO wants me to leave
The CTO has surely overstepped the boundaries.. the project/company is your baby and no one and i mean NO ONE should tell you to leave your baby.. the CTO is just like a 'hired' babysitter for your baby (you want to ensure that your baby is growing in a good and right direction) and you might lack some parenting skills but that doesnt mean you have to give up your baby in the hands of the babysitter.

Even though you may not be a great coder you can and will grow to be one great coder.

CTO should know this clearly that this company is yours and he is just an hired help.. he may be the best CTO out there in the world.. but he cannot even suggest you to leave the company..

vayarajesh··on Ask HN: CTO wants me to leave
I agree completely.
