valval··on Torrent of Hate for Health Insurance Industry Follows CEO's Killing
I would never have expected your answer to be “spend more of other people’s money”.
valval··on ChatGPT Pro
If the cure for cancer arrived to us in the form of the most probable token being predicted one at a time, would your view on the matter change in any way?

In other words, do you have proof that this medium of information output is doomed to forever be useless in producing information that adds value to the world?

These are of course rhetorical questions that you nor anyone else can answer today, but you seem to have a weird sort of absolute position on this matter, as if a lot depended on your sentiment being correct.

valval··on ChatGPT Pro
If you understood the systems you’re using, you’d know the limitations and wouldn’t marvel at this. Use search engines for searching, calculators for calculating, and LLMs for generating text.
valval··on Why America's economy is soaring ahead of its rivals
Well done taking the high road, Marx.
valval··on Why America's economy is soaring ahead of its rivals
That’s super unfortunate and I’m well aware, but it’s a separate issue.
valval··on Americans React to UnitedHealthcare CEO's Murder: 'My Empathy Is Out of Network'
“Bad things” is subjective, and you’d only want to start this war if you’re certain you’d win.
valval··on Americans React to UnitedHealthcare CEO's Murder: 'My Empathy Is Out of Network'
I think this is a subject that tends to bring the absolute lunatics out of their holes.
valval··on Americans React to UnitedHealthcare CEO's Murder: 'My Empathy Is Out of Network'
Holding such opinion is fine in my eyes, as long as you’ll be the one enforcing those measures. If you wish to be the one pointing the finger to have people assassinated or worse, I have no sympathy for you and would fight your ideology until the end.
valval··on Why America's economy is soaring ahead of its rivals
I also like the example where if you break someone’s window and they fix it for $300, that’s at least an extra $300 in GDP.
valval··on Bitcoin is over $100k
What on earth are you saying? Money is money for some ultra rich people who have enough of it.
valval··on Why America's economy is soaring ahead of its rivals
You’re a bitter conspiracy theorist, inviting nothing but ridicule.
valval··on ‘With brain preservation, nobody has to die’
What a silly conundrum you’ve got yourself into. It’s fine to take a step back and say oops, what I just said here was quite stupid.
valval··on My son (9 yrs old) used plain JavaScript to make a game, and wants your feedback
That's great! My eldest is quite a few years away from understanding coding but I'm excited to take on such projects with him.

For the game itself, I played against a fire gollum dude and the pace felt quite slow -- it would have taken me some 10 minutes to beat him, I imagine. I also didn't know when I get to use my cool moves, since there was no UI indicator.

valval··on China's share of global electric car market rises to 76%
As a long time Tesla driver myself, I'd love to test drive some Chinese EVs. I'm getting bombarded with "China cars will explode underneath you!" sentiments, and the more aggressive they grow the less I'm inclined to believe in them.

It's not realistic that I'd make the switch long term today as Tesla is doing very well, but I'd at least like to form my own informed opinion on the matter.

valval··on The rise of digital housekeeping: the hidden work of smart technology
The rise of manufactured controversy: the hidden work of seeking gender conflict in smart homes
valval··on Ethiopian wolves reported to feed on nectar
Wolf discovers dessert menu.
valval··on Show HN: My party game where AI decides if you’re funny
You got hit with the classic anti-scammer technique of “go along until you see a chance to make a run for it”.
valval··on Elon Musk's $50B Tesla Pay Can't Be Reinstated, Delaware Judge Rules
I don’t know the source or context of your claim but even if I take it at face value, yes, the CEO has leverage in negotiations. It’s up to the board the extent to which they should be able to exercise that leverage.
valval··on Tip pressure might work in the moment, but customers are less likely to return
You either raise prices, cut costs, or go out of business. All are valid options.
valval··on Elon Musk's $50B Tesla Pay Can't Be Reinstated, Delaware Judge Rules
As if shareholders can’t decide their own CEO’s pay.
valval··on Thoughts on the software industry (2022)
More navel-gazing philosophy about software. Just write code, solve problems, and skip the martyrdom.
valval··on I don't know how to build software and you don't either
The author argues against absolutism in SWE, but makes absolute claims about experience requirements to understand what he’s talking about.
valval··on Who Is Jay Graber, the CEO of Bluesky?
Really just depends on the quality of the other person's argument. Good to see that you're spending time going over my post history though, makes me feel special. Would never cross my mind in a million years to click on your profile and start scrolling.
valval··on What does this button do? – My new car has a mysterious and undocumented switch
The "I'm a tech guy so I shoot my printer if it makes a weird noise" meme essentially.
valval··on Brits are scrolling away from X and aren't that interested in AI
Yes, you can find the blog post and repo through a quick search.
valval··on Brits are scrolling away from X and aren't that interested in AI
Just like the “following” tab on X.
valval··on Brits are scrolling away from X and aren't that interested in AI
People would of course talk about the information found on the platform, not the platform itself.
valval··on Who Is Jay Graber, the CEO of Bluesky?
It doesn’t look like reasoning to you since your bias is so strong. You get no exposure to people challenging your ideals.
valval··on What does this button do? – My new car has a mysterious and undocumented switch
I know your comment is just the traditional HN karma grab, but rejecting technological advancement in vehicles based on privacy concerns means missing out on significant improvements in safety, efficiency, and comfort. Would you also reject modern healthcare because hospitals use connected devices?
valval··on Who Is Jay Graber, the CEO of Bluesky?
They don't owe the repo any updates, if there are none. As long as you have no evidence of foul play, you're just a run of the mill conspiracy theorist.
