vadym909··on U.S. predicts zero job growth for electrical engineers
comparison of the salaries and numbers of h1b visas of the 'genuine' vs 'staffing'. Last year the top 2 staffing cos - Infosys and TCS got 40,000 visas (2/3rds of the quota) at an average salary between $60-80K. The top 2 R&D cos- Microsoft and Google got 9,000 visas (14% of quota) at an average salary of $125K. Pretty easy to tell what is genuine. http://www.oncontracting.com/article/how-the-us-can-reduce-h...
vadym909··on New Global Growth Projections Predict the Decade of India
1. High Govt regulation, permission, licensing, red tape, labor laws, politics 2. Irregular power and water supply 3. Poor infrastructure/Logistics- Roads, Bridges, Rails, Ports
vadym909··on Flint, MI: So much lead in children’s blood, state of emergency declared
Most foreigners think all of the US looks like New York City or a Beverly Hills suburb because they see that version all the time in the hit movies and on popular TV shows. My relative came to Silicon Valley and was shocked it wasn't like a space-age city with gleaming buildings and futuristic roads. Like truly shocked!
vadym909··on My adventures in medical tourism
Yes- my friend goes to India and does his annual checkups/ dental checkups and fillings for a few hundred rupees which is cheaper than the deductible of his dental insurance here. Last time he had heart pain and went to a top heart specialty clinic and his bill was $11 to get checked out.
vadym909··on I am Peter Roberts, an immigration lawyer who does work for YC and startups. AMA
No- you find a job title that has a lower prevailing wage- for example programmer analyst vs application developer or something else. Companies like Infosys and TCS pay $70K/year
vadym909··on Network of ‘Scouts’ Spreads Money Through Silicon Valley
I'm not sure if or why this is news? Everywhere you read, VCs say- don't cold call- come through a warm introduction which makes it clear that there are insider groups and people that carry weight. Not necessary that their scout circle has insight into every great idea/company.
vadym909··on Large Companies Game H-1B Visa Program
The good ones mostly do and switch to their client companies so effectively a large portion of the TCS/Wipro/Infosys cadre end up at the right places that pay the most. The bad ones suck it up and stick around. So the offshore companies purposely don't hire the best ones.
vadym909··on Lessons from Gurgaon, India's private city (2014) [pdf]
I have friends that live and work there and they swear they wouldn't if they had an option. Gurgaon and NOIDA on the opposite end of Delhi grew because real estate prices were skyrocketing in Delhi. Multinational companies outsourcing to captive centers in India wanted cheap office space and therefore setup in Gurgaon. Outside of the glass and steel towers are potholed roads that never get fixed. It takes >1 hr to get to from Delhi even though it is just 15 miles because of bad traffic controls. There is no assured water or electricity. I hope people don't take lessons from Gurgaon. Older cities like Mumbai, Chandigarh and New Delhi are still better.
vadym909··on Jeff Bezos Says Amazon Won’t Tolerate ‘Callous’ Management Practices
To the people that say an employee should just quit- it isn't that easy. 1. While it may be good for your resume to show you got selected by AMZN, the reverse is it hurts your resume to show you only lasted a few months which may imply it was a hiring mistake and you couldn't cut it. 2. If you took a big relocation package or sign-on bonus, you may feel inclined to stick it out even if it not healthy to not have to pay back and to deflect #1.
vadym909··on Gigster (YC S15) Does The Dev Work To Turn Your Idea Into An App
Its so hard to believe that the end goal is to be a curated oDesk- which essentially makes it even worse than a online labor marketplace- a services business of which there are 100,000+ in the world. What would be the differentiator?

The idea isn't new and there have been startups like GroupTalent, Crew and TopTal that have tried/are trying this and many others in various different verticals.

I'm wondering if the A list angels and VCs are privy to some deeper plan about what this intends to become long-term.

vadym909··on Campus Job (YC W15), Connecting College Students with Employers, Raises $7.8M
Congrats- How is this different than Internmatch, Readyforce or even Indeed or snagajob?
