v5v3··on Spending Too Much Money on a Coding Agent
>My Claude Code usage would have been $24k last month if I didn't have a max plan, at least according to Claude-Monitor.

In their dreams.

v5v3··on Spending Too Much Money on a Coding Agent
They are not making money as they are all competing to push the models further and this R&D spending on salaries and cloud/hardware costs.

Unless models get better people are not going to pay more.

v5v3··on Spending Too Much Money on a Coding Agent
No need to use the most expensive models for every query? Use it for the ones the cheaper models don't do well.
v5v3··on US economy blasts through expectations to add 147,000 jobs

v5v3··on Percona Launches First-Ever Open Source Transparent Data Encryption for Postgres
Misleading title. It's not an extension for postgreql but only part of their own postgresql distro.
v5v3··on Cloudflare Introduces Default Blocking of A.I. Data Scrapers
BBC recently served a cease and desist on perplexity to stop, and delete all existing.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy7ndgylzzmo

So an ai company can just be naughty till asked to stop, and then exclud that one company that has the financial resources to go legal.

v5v3··on Cloudflare Introduces Default Blocking of A.I. Data Scrapers
Primary reason people use cloudflare is to hide the ip address of their own server. So they are less likely to be hacked.

Most people are not worried about DDos as their is no reason for any one to DDos them.

Until other services start offering the same, Cloudflare remains default.

Why download brave and the use Tor.

Just use the Tor browser

v5v3··on Spain and Brazil push global action to tax the super-rich and curb inequality
People in the UK and other countries are heavily taxed at source. And they see it on their monthly wage slip.

And many people don't do a job they love, they do it as they need the money, and are miserable.

The 'look at at that group who are not paying their share and the party in charge is responsible , but we will change it if you vote for us' is one of the easiest plays to get votes and volunteers campaigning for you.

v5v3··on Figma files for proposed IPO
Why does it make sense? When the price is so volatile.

If the companies are so confident of their trading ability then they should stop their existing business and become trading companies.

v5v3··on Figma files for proposed IPO
If they were planning to IPO, they will have put in place a strategy to maximise the numbers for the year prior.

So the numbers for the year before IPO may have no relation to future.

v5v3··on Figma files for proposed IPO
Nvidia GPUs/Aws ai offerings?
v5v3··on Spain and Brazil push global action to tax the super-rich and curb inequality
Yes. It is the 2nd most powerful alliance after the USA/Canada/Australia/Europe one.

India seem a flaky member of the Brics, but rest seem very committed.

v5v3··on They tried Made in the USA – it was too expensive for their customers
Many do succeed - All-Clad for example make their stuff in USA and China. I own the American made frying pan of theirs, as do many.
v5v3··on They tried Made in the USA – it was too expensive for their customers
Trying to make all your products domestically may be the wrong approach for many. Instead make specific lines domestically.

There are lots of companies who standard ranges are made in China, but they also have a Made in America/other for their premium range.

That way customers who are less price sensitive can choose to pay more. And those who can't still buy regardless.

v5v3··on Spain and Brazil push global action to tax the super-rich and curb inequality
If Spain can get support from across the EU. And Brazil the same from BRICS then we could see change.

Best not to hold your breath though...

v5v3··on Grammarly acquires Superhuman
They raised $1 billion and bought a small company.

If Ai was so good, they wouldn't have needed to buy a company. They would have vibe coded it in 10 minutes.

v5v3··on Grammarly acquires Superhuman
Are you a native English speaker?

As English as a non primary language speakers globally use it heavily.

English is the default business language, so if you are from another country and are not confident in your English, your gonna install such a tool.

v5v3··on Huawei releases an open weight model trained on Huawei Ascend GPUs
I am presuming that only applies to US companies? To stop them using it at their sites outside of the USA.
v5v3··on Ask HN: Which skill do you believe will take the longest to be replaced by AI?
You have started with the assumption that the business people are not going to either be replaced by AI, or that they won't be directly working with an AI development tool themselves.
v5v3··on Ask HN: Alternatives to Cloudflare for DNS?
As already mentioned, bunny is seeking to be a European competitor of cloudflare https://bunny.net

But it depends on what DNS features you want as to what is suitable for you.

v5v3··on New MacBook with A18 Pro Chip Spotted in Apple Code
Apple has previously said they want a large user base (hence why they are giving upcoming OS26 to older devices) as they are seeking to maximise the sales of software, accessories and subscriptions.

The more apple devices in circulation, the more 30% cut from App Store, Ai Services, apple TV, music, games, earbuds and everything else.

They are now like a video games console maker selling games and accessories, except unlike console makers, they don't sell the device for an initial loss but profit.

v5v3··on Oracle signed $30B per year cloud deal with mystery customer
So the $30bn annual revenue (not profit) deal starts sometime after April 2028.

Which sounds like it may be for the new Oracle/SoftBank/OpenAi datacentre that is being opened?

v5v3··on EU to ban carry-on baggage fees
As per hiking.

Base layer (thin material), mid (fleece) and waterproof/windproof shell (light).

v5v3··on Entry-level jobs down by a third since launch of ChatGPT
Guys, that article is by a web scraping job search website seeking free publicity.

It will be blocked by the big players such as indeed and LinkedIn, and possibly also blocked by direct corporate websites. So wouldn't take any notice of it.

If the average salary and employment rate both drop then that would be a sign.

v5v3··on Implementing fast TCP fingerprinting with eBPF
Thank you!
v5v3··on Thousands in Norway told they had won life-changing sums in lottery error
State owned lottery. So politicians get blamed, and the CEO will be fired as the politicians need to show they are 'tackling the issue'.

That was always implicitly in the job description for any public sector CEO role.

It won't affect the ceo's job prospects in any way, they will pop up in a new gig soon enough.

v5v3··on EU to ban carry-on baggage fees
More than 1 day is easy.

You can wear shorts/jeans multiple days, so just need multiple underwear and socks. Pack some light t-shirts and shirts rolled up.

Merino wool t-shirts and some other natural materials can be worn multiple days.

Also depends on weather, if it's winter and not sweating and humid you could wear the same top multiple days too.

v5v3··on The $25k car is going extinct?
277+ comment on this thread when we all know the answer - cars are deliberately over priced, at full price level, so the monthly finance payments relative to depreciation forecasts look good to the buyers (renters) and there is a room for negotiations and offers.

Its HubSpot Marketing that is the winner here.
