v5v3··on Cloudflare starts blocking pirate sites for UK users
As per the URLs listed in the article, many people don't download movies nowadays.

They stream them on streaming websites.

To prevent a competitor popping up with a USP.

Ssshhh

They may work out that UK has a 2 party system where each one just takes turns and none of it makes much difference.

Tor is a bit slow for streaming video.
v5v3··on Grok is making AI companions, including a goth anime girl
Elon posted on x and some of the replies I saw were "why an underage girl for a companion".

v5v3··on Cognition (Devin AI) to Acquire Windsurf
Unless they are paying annually, the next big thing could see those $200 a month premium users gone.

v5v3··on Telefónica DE shifts VMware support to Spinnaker due to cost
That's why I used the term trickle down, meaning in time.

It may not be k8s as we know it today, but many SMEs are most certainly using containers, via Docker.

Ultimately containers use less resources than a full VM and allow dependency management.

VMs is a reducing business.

v5v3··on Telefónica DE shifts VMware support to Spinnaker due to cost
VMware's VM products are on way out as enterprises are all Kubernetes with containers or serverles functions and this will natural trickle down.

I suspect the strategy is to extract maximum cash whilst they can.

v5v3··on Google's widespread tracking across the web
Ok,what about all browsers should play John Lennon's Imagine on loop?
v5v3··on Google is tracking you (even when using DuckDuckGo)
Wouldn't they just be blocking the DNS queries?

So any client side requests to a known URL is just blocked. So only server side would work.

v5v3··on Google's widespread tracking across the web
Then something else will replace it. To make the same amount of money.
v5v3··on Google is tracking you (even when using DuckDuckGo)
A lot of browser's have tracking blocked and there will be a icon in the top bar which will show this.

And many vpns also offer an option to block trackers and ads before they get to you.

v5v3··on Stellantis declares bankruptcy in China, with $1B in debts
The West indicated to their companies that ICE cars were being phased out by 2030 and set incentives and penalties. (To complete with China ev).

So the car companies rushed out EVs, panic spent on R&D. But without subsidies, most buyers didn't want them, as the charging infrastructure wasn't there (many people don't own garages or driveways or have 30 mins to sit in a charging point).

Now the west is delaying their previous targets to ban ICE cars.

They need to spend billions on an ongoing basis in R&D

And labour costs that are 20% or so lower.
v5v3··on Stellantis declares bankruptcy in China, with $1B in debts
Not a case of 'tariffed Chinese cars out of the market', more tariffed so they are priced similar to the market.

If they had tariffed Chinese cars out of the market, there would be a trade war between them.

v5v3··on Stellantis declares bankruptcy in China, with $1B in debts
They have added tariffs so the pricea of Chinese EVs cannot be ridiculously low.

But they are still competitive to the local competition and so will sell.

As a new entrant, they will be seeking to establish their brands on the roads so may have loss leaders too.

v5v3··on Five companies now control over 90% of the restaurant food delivery market
My understanding is that the drivers are non-exclusive and can work for multiple companies at the same time.

So as their is a ready supply of drivers, anyone who can raise an amount of money, and find a niche can enter the fray?

The suppliers (restaurants) are not happy with 30% or so being taken by the giants.

v5v3··on Musks xAI pressed employees to install surveillance software on personal laptops
Elon Musk declared that none of his employees could work remotely. So this is an admission that he has failed to achieve this goal.
v5v3··on Ask HN: Good non tech companies to work at
If you want to care about what a company does, consider a charity/non profit that you align with.

Also consider a single founder owned mature company, as the culture of a company that was created by a person who is still there is very different to startup, capitalistic investors or public one. As it is their life's work and legacy.
