Okay, go ahead. Show me a (serious) project that hasn't been touched in three years and that plain doesn't work it you install packages from the lock file. You made a claim, I said I was skeptical, your only counter argument was... To reiterate your initial point without adding anything new. So, time for evidence.
uxp8u61q··on 40% of US electricity is now emissions-free
If you use words when you meant other words, then sure, I'm the queen of England. Nobody can have a discussion if words can just mean anything.
uxp8u61q··on 40% of US electricity is now emissions-free
I'm confused, GP didn't say anything about CO2 emissions specifically. GP said "emissions". Methane emissions are bad too.

I know this comment was made in bad faith. "You're not living as an ermite so you're a hypocrite and you have no business suggesting that consumption should be reduced" is an obvious fallacy that gets old quick. But let me entertain you a little. My computer and internet access is essential to my job and to a large part of my personal life. But I do cut down my consumption there (reduce power usage through several different methods, e.g., no power-hungry video games, low resolution videos, low-powered laptop) and in other areas of my life (eating, travel, clothing, and so on).

Now, your turn: what are you doing to help avoid global ecological catastrophe, even a little bit?

If you take as an axiom that the core cause of the current destruction of our planet is inevitable, then there's isn't much we can discuss.
uxp8u61q··on 40% of US electricity is now emissions-free
CO2 and methane ("emissions") is one target. A very important one, but let's not forget the other concerns altogether - plastic pollution, contamination of the environment through mineral extraction, etc.

The only path forward is a drastic reduction in overall consumption. Even if we reach 100% emissions-free electricity, we'll end up with an unlivable planet anyway if we don't focus on the other issues too. If we limit warming to 1,5°C — which isn't even realistic anymore — what good will it do to us if our water and arable land are contaminated beyond repair?

As if "npm/yarn install" wouldn't work for the hypothetical Vue project? A charitable interpretation of what you're saying is that you cannot clone a vue project from three years ago, update all dependencies to the latest version, and expect that to work. But then, how is it different for HTMX, other than for the fact that 1. it's younger 2. you don't have the ecosystem around it to update - but that also means you're doing less or redoing everything yourself.
uxp8u61q··on How random is xkcd? (2015)
Shuffling the whole playlist to choose a new song every time is no different than choosing uniformly from all songs every time. What would be the point? I can't tell what you are getting at.
uxp8u61q··on How random is xkcd? (2015)
Who said anything about hands? I'm trying to make an analogy between shuffling a deck and shuffling xkcd comics. I thought having a visual, physical analogue would perhaps help in seeing that randomness still exists in a shuffle.
uxp8u61q··on Outlook/Hotmail is no longer blocking my mail server
Maybe ask yourself why some users end up blocking you altogether. Surely you didn't start sending them newsletters or the like without being completely certain that they wanted to receive them, and you provide a simple, prominent and reliable way to unsubscribe if/when they change their mind, right?

uxp8u61q··on How random is xkcd? (2015)
Grabbing a new song with probabilities weights based on past outcomes is just as "truly random" as picking a new song with a uniform distribution on all songs every time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stochastic_process
uxp8u61q··on How random is xkcd? (2015)
"Random" doesn't necessarily mean "uniformly distributed random." Shuffling a deck of cards randomly is random, but you're not going to get the same card twice in a row, or even the same card twice until you go through the whole deck.

We're talking about small SVG icons. There's no "uncanny valley" to speak of.

I chose a random icon on the website to make a test. I generated the following image with dall-e and vectorized it in a couple of clicks in illustrator. https://i.imgur.com/dXWR0Zf.png Compare it with https://game-icons.net/1x1/delapouite/skimmer-hat.html Can you honestly tell that one is AI-generated and the other isn't? They're obviously of a very different style, but that's simply because that's what I chose out of the 4 options dall-e offered me.

Just because someone decided to be cheeky and call their license "unlicensed," doesn't mean I'm confused about what license are or aren't... If I wrote a license that granted no rights and decided to call it "Public Domain (TM)," would you also berate people who explained to other what actual "public domain" means?
uxp8u61q··on Outlook/Hotmail is no longer blocking my mail server
As a user, I'm thankful I don't need to sift through hundreds of spam emails a day to find potential false positives. Because that's what you're advocating. You'd apparently like everyone to have a terrible email experience for the sake of your own personal comfort and preference (self hosting your emails).

Besides, for something truly important, the people or organisations who need to reach me know how to do so other than via email (phone, chat, postal mail...).

uxp8u61q··on Game-icons.net: Free icons for your games
I think you're confused. If something is unlicensed, it means you don't have a license, and so you cannot use it.

That's rich given MS's crazy attachment to backwards compatibility. You do realize that they check every single executable that launches to see if it's eg. sim city, and if it is they enable some compatibility flags?

Meanwhile on Linux, everything breaks every time the distribution is updated. Because they're now using the right XYZ framework and every single app should be ported.
