> In a year-and-a-half, the time required to train a large image classification system on cloud infrastructure has fallen from about three hours in October 2017 to about 88 seconds in July 2019. During the same period, the cost to train such a system has fallen similarly.
3 hours to 88 seconds? Wow... I wonder if that's been further reduced today (December 2019)
Well that's unfortunate. I've used these lite interfaces when I was on bandwidth-restricted networks, including satellite internet connections. I hope they bring it back. The main CNN website is an awful pile of junk and I avoid it whenever possible.
Those volumes seem very dense for reading, digesting, and understanding in a single week. Unless you read & learn very fast, how do you plan to do this?
With all the hyper scale providers building or launching their own inference chips, this seems untimely. If intel wants a return on that $2B, I think it will come down to how fast they can execute mass-production of these chips. Unless I have missed a distinct advantage here.
My churches (two previous were Baptist) publish their budgets. My current church has only 16% going to admin costs (building, maintenance, and salary I believe) while everything else went to mission work (we run . Everyone here volunteers their time though, which helps bring costs down. I don’t recall previous budgets, but I think they were closer to 50/50. I guess my current one is unusual, but 10% of 50 mil (according to this article) is surprising to me. That’s the lowest bar I’ve seen
I've had keybase for a while, but never really used it. After spending an hour going through all their requirements to sign up for this, it said I was qualified, but then when I clicked the button to claim it... it said I wasn't. I've tried 4x since and it didn't work
The consumer is also the victim because their credit score is impacted by the fraud, which can prevent them from securing a loan (for car, home, apartment, school, etc)
FYI: On an iPhone SE, and the mobile layout looks terrible and impossible to read or scroll. The width on the grey boxes is too small. Also, I don’t know why you’d label this “anti-goodreads”. I personally have only used goodreads a few times, but I like it
When I started on HN ten years ago, it was only about tech & professional growth. Only in the last few years have the politics and outrage taken over this forum and it “deeply disgusts me.”
Looks like your site is broken when viewed on an iOS mobile with Firefox Focus (anti-tracking) is enabled. Not sure why disabling the trackers should break your site...
You conveniently avoid the fact that SpaceX inserted itself into a collision course with the ESA’s orbit, long after ESA had been there. Being that ESA has a “right of way” they asked SpaceX to take the action
> Google pulled out of the China market because the moral and economic costs of complying with government regulations wasn't worth the value of the market..
