I don't know how they could succeed without a solution similar to Kylix. And I can't really envisage anything on the subject. Cross platform native apps is too good to be true :) (that is with third party support as abundant in Delphi, else FPC is actually there.)
I don't know about Emba.'s actual plans but what they refer to as cross-platform should be a proper port of runtime and VCL. They tried this before with Kylix but killed the project for reasons yet unknown to me (probably didn't raise much cash). So at least to have a taste of how things will work out in the future, I suggest you check out Kylix.
Joke aside, I suggest using Django in such low budget projects if the admin is a selling point. Will save you some time at least (In Django a very slick admin is automatically there for you). Best of the luck.
huh?
* Truly cross-platform GUI on major OSes.
* Smoother transition if your app needs to move on web.
* Pretty looking UI's. 5 years ago, I'd prefer VB/Delphi/.NET [1] for building state of the art UI's (backed by some commercial packages) but today the scene has been completely changed. Hard to catch up with JQuery and alike when it comes to good looking UI's with the tools above.
Downsides? Having a fully blown JS interpreter working aside and a few megabytes bigger installations? Well, I'd say, way to go boy!
Glad to see someone actually working on this idea. I hope they don't make the mistake of setting a high price for entry which would unavoidably push it into being another niche framework. Best of the luck!
[1] and good luck on Linux!
