utexaspunk··on Google have declared Droidscript is malware
Gotta get that steady income. We're quickly becoming a society split between rentier capitalists and renters

No, fully autonomous! https://www.nuro.ai/technology

I dunno, I've seen the Domino's [Nuro](https://www.nuro.ai/) car roaming Houston and it seems to be doing okay and I haven't heard of any issues... If it's good enough for my pizza, it's good enough for me -I'm mostly pizza anyway! :P
utexaspunk··on Simulating the PIN cracking scene in Terminator 2
Static-core 80C88 and an 40x8 mono LCD w/o a backlight. I can't imagine the energy consumption being much different than your average high school graphing calculator
utexaspunk··on Simulating the PIN cracking scene in Terminator 2
Yeah, I have a friend from art school who has created fake posters and interfaces, etc for shows like Law and Order: SVU and I Am Legend (he created the Batman vs Superman poster in times square!). Cool job, but it sounds like it's feast or famine sometimes.
utexaspunk··on The Owl’s Right Eye (2019)
It's also interesting because they are using a wound as a signifier. Anyone could legitimately have an eye injury requiring such a dressing, but now an innocuous bandage is a show of support. The creativity and ingenuity that has come out of some of these protests has been really inspiring and gives me hope that humanity will always find ways to fight oppression no matter how oppressed they are.

Until you make a completely artificial persona that gets famous.
utexaspunk··on South Park creators have new political satire series with AI-generated deepfakes
I think it's all fucked until we can get humans out of the loop entirely. The sooner we can develop benevolent AI overlords the better.

utexaspunk··on A first look at Unreal Engine 5
That was my first thought- it's a shame all we have to interact with such a complex, richly rendered world is a couple of analog sticks and some buttons.

Sounds like a pretty good gig. How do I apply?
utexaspunk··on HyperCard Stack: Douglas Adams' Megapode Nest Volume Calculator (1991)
HyperCard was a great gateway to programming for me as a kid. I've seen Vipercard.net's faithful reproduction, which is pretty cool. What's the closest thing to HyperCard that is modern?
utexaspunk··on Pig brains partially revived four hours after death
The book is better, IMHO. Dalton Trumbo. Younger people tend to be familiar with the movie via the video for Metallica's "One"

I was thinking of the Bobiverse- have your head preserved for reanimation when future technology allows, only to have it declared a non-person and sold to a corporation which digitizes your brain and puts it in a satellite...

utexaspunk··on Sprayprinter – A graffiti robot startup
I would imagine it's stepper motors and rotary encoders turning the pulleys, with perhaps some solenoids or servos to push the tops of the cans.

utexaspunk··on 5-MeO-DMT Associated with Improvements in Depression, Anxiety
Yeah... Salvia is not a party drug. Interesting, though. I wrote about my experience on Reddit a while back:

utexaspunk··on 5-MeO-DMT Associated with Improvements in Depression, Anxiety
Yeah, when people ask me what LSD is like, I tell them it's like those decals people put on large windows so that birds won't hit them. Your perception of reality is mediated by the lens of your senses and mind. The drug distorts that lens, allowing you to see it and study it.

All those ligatures for <>, <=, >=, etc. annoy me to no end. Ew.
utexaspunk··on Saudi Thirst for Water Is Creating a Toxic Brine Problem
Couldn't they just run a big pipe out into the middle of the desert and pump it there? Maybe they could create giant salt flats and extract rare earth elements from them, even...

utexaspunk··on Tensegrity (1961)
To be honest I'm not all that familiar with his writing, actually- I just liked seeing the Dymaxion house at the Ford museum, and geodesic domes. Mostly I like that he had an hopeful vision of a global, sustainable, prosperous, futuristic future, where efficient use of technology and materials could provide prosperity for all. I just like that optimism that seems to have died in the mid-20th century.
utexaspunk··on Tensegrity (1961)
I love Buckminster Fuller, but doesn't a lot of this sound like pseudointellectual bullshit? I mean

"The entire regenerative hierarchy of major, intermediate, and minor constellations of component patterns-within-component-patterns of universe are continual processes of synchronous, yet independent and unique, transformative patternings. That is, all components of universe are in continually accommodative, associative-disassociative motion reciprocity, and all the moving components of universe continuously affect all the other moving components--in varying degrees, ranging between high and low tide reciprocities of critically intense to critically negligible. All of these inter-effects of all the motional components upon one another are precessional, and precession always produces transformative resultants in vectorial patterns which always articulate angular accelerations in directions other than the 'straight' lines of directions between the inter-effective components"

Really?

utexaspunk··on The Fred Rogers We Know
"Do you need to go potty? Maybe yes, maybe no; why don't you sit and try to go?" has been immensely helpful. There's a Daniel Tiger song for every situation!
utexaspunk··on 'Unique' cannabis compound reverses brain aging in mice
...and how does the percentage of pot smokers who end up in asylums or the ER compare with that of the population as a whole?
utexaspunk··on 'Unique' cannabis compound reverses brain aging in mice
Eh, addiction usually implies a physiological reaction to withdrawal. AFAIK it's pretty well established that there is no physical addiction to cannabis. One can very easily feel dependent upon it, though. Then again, if I were to cut off my Wellbutrin or Vyvanse cold turkey I'd be in for a rough ride as well. The fact that something can be habit-forming does not necessarily make it bad.
utexaspunk··on 'Unique' cannabis compound reverses brain aging in mice
Absolutely- if I smoke, I will be awake all night with my mind racing with ideas (and not anxious or paranoid ones). It's a wonderful thing, and it saddens me that it doesn't have the same effect for everyone.
