Money is power for stupid people.
untilHellbanned··on Launch HN: Enzyme (YC S17) – Automating FDA Compliance and Approval
Curious to know how you conveyed this as a venture scale company?

There is a YC incorporation company that didn’t scale (not meant to be a dig), so curious about what’s different.

untilHellbanned··on Testing a Vue.js and Laravel Todo App
I really enjoy the laravel and vue.js combo. The documentation is great, Taylor Otwell is a benevolent, benevolent dictator, and there are lots of pretty simple yet featured demos available written for humans. It just works.

Jack of all trades master of none. What is Musk doing? This guy is all over the map.
untilHellbanned··on Cancer Doctors Cite Risks of Drinking Alcohol
They don’t “do” anything. It’s genetics. Genetics are luck.

Yeah and that place is Ikaria.

Social media companies are cigarette companies. They should be taxed and frowned upon accordingly.

Remember way back when when cigarettes were cool? Well fast-forward 70 years and that’s social media now.

untilHellbanned··on Science is broken
Science is at its best when it’s an art. When it gets statistical, it gets incremental. Creativity and true transformation in thinking involves bending what’s actually there and seeing through the noise. (Professor of molecular biology at top school here.)
untilHellbanned··on An ambitious project to map all the cells in the human body
This will be useful, but similar to hype machine behind react or node.js, molecular biology is jerked around by new technologies that confer unclear value over existing approaches.

In this case, it’s single cell rna seq. I’d argue we never got very far with bulk measurement RNA analysis because it’s not a functional technique, rather than us not having single cell resolution.

Look at the nobel prizes. So many of them have simple genetics or biochemistry at their core. It’s because those experiments were functional.

And before you tell me we haven’t yet had enough time for gene expression studies to deliver a nobel prize, I’d say well it’s been almost 25 years. Yamanka 4 factors is less than 10. CRISPR, also less than 10 should come soon too.

untilHellbanned··on Why the 9 to 5 workday is tough on creative workers (2013)
Constraints like time are a forcing function. They aren't necessarily good or bad. You could argue many creations wouldn't have happened had someone not been stuck in a job they created something to liberate themselves from.

Ycombinator doesn't care about credentials?

Sam Alton - Stanford Drew Houston - mit Collision brothers - mit/harvard Airbnb guys - RISD

We could go on, so let's do...

Please tell me honestly if you think google Facebook Amazon Microsoft would be where they were without the "traditional credentials" of their founders? Stanford, harvard, Princeton, harvard, respectively.

At this point all these SV demigods like Ravikant (Dartmouth/Stuyvesant-look it up) are just being irresponsible getting kids' hope up.

Keeping it 100%.

untilHellbanned··on Jim Mellon and high-profile partners roll the dice on an anti-aging upstart
If I had a dollar for every time someone on HN mentioned Aubrey de Grey or SENS in an aging discussion or Haskell or Lisp in a programming language discussion I'd be rich. Like Satoshi rich.

Caution: your advice didn't hold for Ethereum. When Ethereum forked, it didn't lose any value and Ethereum Classic value got created out of nothing.

untilHellbanned··on Better Form Design: One Thing per Page
They likely don't know of the prior art. In fairness "one thing per page" isn't a very literature searchable topic and many people have trouble finding good search terms to uncover all the relevant prior art. "Wizard" doesn't intuitively scream out "one thing per page".

I have no idea how prominent IBM wizards are in the design literature, but I'm a scientist and I can speak to the challenges of finding relevant literature when all you have is what search terms makes sense to you.

untilHellbanned··on Britecharts: D3.js based charting library of components
Very grateful for the open source solution. D3.js itself seems "reusable". Can you maybe explain the benefits of this another way and/or in greater detail? Is the most apparent benefit less lines of code? I'm not familiar as to why transpiling with Babel would be a selling point.
