undersuiton Europe's scorched landscapes seen from space after summer heatwaves

The AMOC delivers warm air year round, it cools the UK from the hotter southern air during the summer.

undersuiton Europe's scorched landscapes seen from space after summer heatwaves

Scorched is being used correctly. Fire does not have to be involved, heat does.

undersuiton Count Binface receives over a quarter of votes in Clacton by-election

OK so the "at least one" is a Binface campaign promise, used as a joke here. I'm going to leave it up to you to figure out if the Netherlands builds more than 1 additional housing unit every year.

undersuiton Count Binface receives over a quarter of votes in Clacton by-election

They built at least one house. That's more housing.

They did build more they just didn't build that.

undersuiton Count Binface receives over a quarter of votes in Clacton by-election

I saw a Sankey diagram from exit polls that showed that lots of Conservatives voted for Farage, but some Reform voted for Binface. Can't find it again though because Twitter sucks.

undersuiton Nine PBS could lose 70 years of archives after cloud vendor goes defunct

This local PBS wasn't playing it's own footage 24/7. The data in question could be just their local segments, an hour or two of local coverage and maybe their fundraisers.

undersuiton England set to be one of the first countries to eliminate hepatitis C

He knows he can't push his base too hard on certain things. He probably knows this about vaccines, he lauds Operation Warp Speed but as a win of his not a vaccine that could have saved millions more with his cooperation. He chooses his power over what's best for all of us. He's the leader of the antivax train by choice.

undersuiton 2027 memory capacity is reportedly sold out

The MI350X has a 1000W TDP. Maybe I'd use it in the winter.

undersuiton 2027 memory capacity is reportedly sold out

400GB of Optane for $500 is kinda tempting now(also the E1.s form factor p5801x). I run my P5800x on my NAS for small files and metadata. They're the fastest but I wouldn't suggest running out and buying one because you're avoiding a 16GB to 32GB upgrade, RAM is still faster. Use it as a caching or swap device when you're running a LLM on a motherboard with maxed out RAM and GPU.

I suggest using an 1x PCI-e adapter because putting a M10 in a M.2 slot is likely going to only have 2 of 4 PCI-e lanes in use. You have to figure out the tradeoff of using a Swap on your, now very expensive as well, Flash storage that may have flashier sequential read and write speeds but doesn't have the ability to sustain random read and write performance which is what a Swap is going to use the most.

There are faster Optane drives that use 4 PCI-e lanes or even PCI-e 4.0, but they get pricey quickly, so you should just buy ram then. The deal is the 16GB Optane on an unused 1x PCI-e slot.

undersuiton 2027 memory capacity is reportedly sold out

Optane on a cheap adapter is superior in just this Swap application because the 16GB M.2 are very cheap, the 2x lanes aren't under utilizing your 4x motherboard M.2 slot when used with an adapter, and Optane has better write endurance and latency then even the newest flash.

That's a 4 lane adapter, it'll work if you have a 4x, 8x, or 16x PCI-E slot open. This is a 1 lane adapter: https://www.ebay.com/itm/128010189845?var=429206655218

Grab the cheapest Intel Optane M10 drive from eBay with a 1x PCI-E adapter from them too. 16GB of Swap for less than $20.

The M10 are over produced and only PCI-E 3.0 2x lane devices but 16GB of DDR5 is going to cost over $200.

You can do the same with USB-C M.2 adapters but the adapters cost more and eww USB for Swap, hope the device never drops.

Domestic cats and dogs are not native to the Americas. They are pets or work animals. The cats should be adopted if possible and made indoor cats or neutered to keep their invasive population down. Dogs too, you need to treat feral dogs as wild and excellent rabies spreaders.

undersuiton Producing ammonia and fertiliser using wind power in Morris, Minnesota

I mentioned removing the excess nutrients from the water because removing them "works a small fraction of the time, it is awful to wildlife and it is an eyesore." not to mention the energy requirements which you think shouldn't include wind.

undersuiton ECC and DDR5

So as I was overclocking my AMD Ryzen 7 2700 I discovered that the Infinity Fabric has ECC because if I tried to run my fancy DDR-3466 ram at full speed I started getting logged errors from it. Those failed transactions slow down the system because the data needs to be corrected or even re-sent. The RAM runs fine overclocked at DDR4-4200 in a newer system, but my old Ryzen 7 2700 couldn't handle anything past DDR4-3266 without the errors creeping in.

Without the reported ECC on Infinity Fabric I would have had no idea that the errors were happening and affecting performance.
