ukuina··on Google AI Edge Gallery
Guess this puts dozens of local LLM apps on deathwatch.
ukuina··on Human coders are still better than LLMs
> when the meta changes the people that were at the top will quickly find themselves at the top again.

I think parent is agreeing with you?

> This is why devs who started with J2ME are the holy grail of app developers, since they started making apps years before iPhone devs

ukuina··on LLM codegen go brrr – Parallelization with Git worktrees and tmux
Without agent collaboration, you'll need a whole tree of agents just to resolve the merge conflicts.
ukuina··on Ask HN: Do you have a side project you're getting tired of?
Is there a service that will distribute my iOS app for me (hopefully for a per-release fee and not a monthly subscription or revenue share) without going through the stringent App Store requirements? The current choices seem to be: Create an LLC or be prepared to get doxxed.
ukuina··on ChatGPT Is a Gimmick
Both of you have valid critiques. It seems LLMs are both creative AND insufficiently creative, depending on the intended use-case. Probably the hallmark of an advanced, yet-to-be-understood paradigm?

Likely a Five Worlds scenario.

ukuina··on Is-even-ai – Check if a number is even using the power of AI
This doesn't work if I use a reasoning model like o3, which does not allow setting max_tokens.

Without reasoning, how can I be SURE a number is even?

ukuina··on Jules: An Asynchronous Coding Agent
Other Agentic tools run for 10-30min based on model, task complexity and the number of dead ends the LLM get into.
ukuina··on Directory of MCP Servers
But the standard servers should be hosted by the service provider, like mcp.slack.com as a counterpart to api.slack.com

Why should I be self-hosting ANY local MCP server for accessing an external service?

ukuina··on Coding Without a Laptop – Two Weeks with AR Glasses and Linux on Android
Are there any OSes that have usable performance (<1min to boot) on iOS without JIT? I tried a few and they were impractically slow.
ukuina··on If nothing is curated, how do we find things
> Curation is the uncrossable moat for AGI/ASI as an inherently human-to-human behavior.

Infinite context models will understand everything about your life. Combined with real-time lookup of all content ever created alongside the ability to generate new content on demand, curation seems destined to be solved.

ukuina··on FastVLM: Efficient vision encoding for vision language models
What are they doing in there? Is it mostly visual assets?
ukuina··on Gmail to SQLite
Google Takeout regularly fails to complete for me. Syncing via the API seems like a reasonable alternative.

Maybe Anthropic will buy Cursor to level the field.

ukuina··on When ChatGPT broke the field of NLP: An oral history
Have we already forgotten what AlexNet did to Computer Vision as a research domain?
ukuina··on Redis is open source again
Many legal departments cannot afford nuance when a newsworthy license change occurs. The kneejerk reaction is to switch away to mitigate any business risk.
ukuina··on Home washing machines fail to remove important pathogens from textiles
> Well, it's a bold hypothesis that a household washing machine should sterilise clothes.

That's on the manufacturers for adding "sanitize" cycles: https://cdn.avbportal.com/magento-media/GrandBlog/mhw8630hc%...

ukuina··on A faster way to copy SQLite databases between computers
Doesn't this just push the runtime into index recomputation on the destination database?

ukuina··on Someone at YouTube needs glasses
I can't remember which carrier initially compelled Google to do this, but it was done to save their networks rather than save cost for Google. It may have been Verizon when the HTC Thunderbolt launched. Now all the carriers are on-board.

e.g., https://www.t-mobile.com/offer/binge-on-streaming-video.html

> All detectable video streaming is optimized for your mobile device so you can watch up to three times more video using the same amount of high-speed data.

ukuina··on Ask HN: AI Replacing Engineers – Firsthand Stories?
> What would a junior developer be doing? Genuinely wondering what you would pay a junior developer to do today which couldn't do more cost effectively with AI?

Learn. We pay them to learn.

ukuina··on National Archives Releases Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) Records
Yeah, modern sci-fi has embraced sharp aerodynamics so extensively that saucers now seem laughably fake.
ukuina··on Instant SQL for results as you type in DuckDB UI
Does local DuckDB UI work without an internet connection?
ukuina··on Launch HN: mrge.io (YC X25) – Cursor for code review
How does this work for large monorepos?

If the repo is several GB, will you clone the whole thing for every review?
