ujkhsjkdhf234··on Judge rules Apple executive lied under oath, makes criminal contempt referral
The only reason I have the smallest bit of hope is that this is a state case in California and not a federal one.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Judge rules Apple executive lied under oath, makes criminal contempt referral
This is a state case. Referral for criminal charges goes to a district attorney in Northern California. Trump's DOJ could try to lean on California but no one in California has any taste for Trump and his people.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Judge rules Apple executive lied under oath, makes criminal contempt referral
I hope he gets criminal charges. The amount of people who lie under oath and get away with it is unacceptable. Lets get all the politicians who lied under oath next as well.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Study finds that budget cuts to public R&D would significantly hurt the economy
Democrats(the voters) are not a monolith. Like I said, moderate and centrist Democrats are not entirely on board with universal healthcare. The more liberal left wing of Democrats are.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Study finds that budget cuts to public R&D would significantly hurt the economy
Democrats want universal healthcare but Republicans will cry socialism which will turn moderates against it. I saw this happen in 08 and again in 16 with Bernie Sanders.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Secret Deals, Foreign Investments: The Rise of Trump’s Crypto Firm
I don't agree with them but tons of known corrupt Republicans have not been criminally charged. That means nothing.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Study finds that budget cuts to public R&D would significantly hurt the economy
It was based on Mitt Romney's healthcare plan that he created for Massachusetts when he was governor.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Study finds that budget cuts to public R&D would significantly hurt the economy
Republicans would win and Democrat voters would stay home. Republicans spend tons of time trying to convince you whatever Dem they are running against is corrupt while their voters ignore the blatant corruption in their own party.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Study finds that budget cuts to public R&D would significantly hurt the economy
Republicans understand the power of appealing to emotion and "othering." They have spent decades training their voters to vote against their own interest because it will hurt people that Republicans say are preventing their great success. Trump said he had "concepts of a plan" on healthcare and voters think he had more of a platform than Harris because his main points were about getting even with the world. Make the world pay what it owes us and get these immigrants out of YOUR country.

Democrats get punished for trying that too blatantly. Republicans and Democrats are playing different games when it comes to campaigning and propaganda.

ujkhsjkdhf234··on Study finds that budget cuts to public R&D would significantly hurt the economy
Trump won the popular vote because people were nostalgic for Obama's economy that Trump got credit for which is what always happens when a Republican follows a Dem into office.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Secret Deals, Foreign Investments: The Rise of Trump’s Crypto Firm
I didn't say there wasn't corruption on both side, I said one side is far more corrupt than the other.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Secret Deals, Foreign Investments: The Rise of Trump’s Crypto Firm
This both sides thing is so naive. One side is far more corrupt than the other.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on U.S. Economy Contracts at 0.3% Rate in First Quarter
The price of eggs was due to a nationwide bird flu epidemic. It had nothing to do with Biden, Harris, or Trump for that matter. The problem was eventually going to resolve itself.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on U.S. Economy Contracts at 0.3% Rate in First Quarter
This is fascism by the way. The enemy is strong but weak, good times are always around the corner once we finish with the next hardship, there is a group of immigrants, gay people, trans people preventing us from reaching the promised land and we must get rid of them.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on U.S. Economy Contracts at 0.3% Rate in First Quarter
Do not take responsibility from Trump. He does not need to sign the EOs or do any of this. He was campaigning on tariffs before Project 2025 was ever a concept.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Indian court orders blocking of Proton Mail
Sounds like an endorsement of Proton Mail to me.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on Congress passes Take It Down act despite major flaws
People keep saying it can't be legal as if he cares about legality.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on AI Goes to College for the Free Money
In-person verification is something they should go back to. I did most of my classes online when I was in community college but I had to go to the registrar to meet with a counselor and the bursar on campus to finish my admission. After that I never went to campus again. I think that is fair.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on AI Goes to College for the Free Money
The leap to "we need Sam Altman's Worldcoin to track everyone" as a solution seems like an extreme jump that skips many less privacy invasion, less expensive, less insane solutions.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on YC founder points out that jobs exist outside of working for police state
Israel is not leaving the West Bank alone. The media has been focused on the Gaza strip because that is where most of the destruction is but Israel has operations in the West Bank[0].

You can't claim the moral high ground of just wanting to defeat Hamas if you use these faster more efficient methods. Israel is still trying to play the victim in the global narrative.

ujkhsjkdhf234··on YC founder points out that jobs exist outside of working for police state
What is he saying in this reply? He wants ICE to use this to track drug dealers and send them to the concentration camp in El Salvador?
ujkhsjkdhf234··on YC founder points out that jobs exist outside of working for police state
This is not entirely right. Palantir is a company that pitches surveillance and AI everywhere in government. From their own product page, they want "AI-Powered automation for every decision." I think this is a poor idea in general but especially in policing and government. Palantir has been caught creating a "pre-crime" algorithm[0], because they seem to have thought Minority Report was an inspiring movie. You can read a former Palantir employee talk about all of the delightfully fun stuff they get involved in like using AI in autonomous warfare[2].

On top of that I have a severe distaste for the founders. Peter Thiel is a psycho who, among other things, is a big fan of Curtis Yarvin and wants to bring monarchy to the US. Creator of smash hits like "I no longer think freedom and democracy are compatible."[1] You may be familiar with his protege, JD Vance. I wouldn't want this person running a police state company. Do not mistake Palantir as Tableau but for government.

Has 1 ever in tech actually put a stop to harmful behavior?
ujkhsjkdhf234··on We're building a dystopia just to make people click on ads [video]
There are ads running on Youtube right now that deepfake some celebrity to sell crypto.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on YC founder points out that jobs exist outside of working for police state
People tell themselves this to make themselves feel better about the horrible consequences of the choices they make but like you said, there are degrees, many more degrees than you might think. You should understand what the work you are putting out into the world is doing no matter where you work but I would not feel good working for Palantir or any company that directly aides them.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on YC founder points out that jobs exist outside of working for police state
Palantir is one of the worst companies that exist right now and I despise them. And this thread getting flagged is very disappointing, I would think "Paul Graham speaks about opportunities in tech" would be very relevant to HN.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on YC founder points out that jobs exist outside of working for police state
Nobody. A company like Palantir doesn't need to exist and people don't need to work for it.
ujkhsjkdhf234··on We're building a dystopia just to make people click on ads [video]
I have been groaning about income inequality a lot but it is amazing how much of this can be explained by it. People do not have the disposable income to spend on services so you make people pay with attention. Give them the carrot for free so they don't notice. On top of that, the product is free so there is no expectation of support for the end user. You're getting it for free so what are you complaining about?

I would like companies to start aggressively pushing back against AI scrapers using things like Anubis[0]. If you can't be a good steward of the internet or respectful to other peoples' resources, then people have the right to deny them to you.

Given the success of Wish, Shein, and Temu, I don't agree with that. People want to buy stuff even if its complete trash.
