ud0··on Ask HN: How does one have the mindset to study for coding interviews?
I recently got into one of FAANG & the following are the steps I took to get there:

- Create a study curriculum.

- Each topic in the study curriculum should contain both reading & practice material.

- The reading material tells you about the data structure or algorithm and practice lets your reinforce what you just read.

- Spread this over a long period of time say 6 months.

- Practice everyday, I cannot emphasise this enough.

- Limit to about 2-3 hours a day.

- Give mock job interviews weekly or bi-weekly. See https://www.pramp.com

- Be kind to yourself these questions are hard on purpose.

You will notice a gradual improvement in your problem solving skill and general knowledge about the problem space. You might even begin to enjoy it (that's what happened to me). Diving blindly into just solving problems is a poor strategy. The key is balancing reading & understanding the data structure or algorithm with solving actual problems.

ud0··on Ask HN: Wildly Unpopular Opinions
> "The one time that society allowed young people to explore their interests, to not work (the 60s), the establishment was so scared at the revolution they never wanted that freedom to ever be available again"

Do you have any links or references, I'm particularly curious about how society allowed young people to not work & pursue their interests. Was there some sought of Universal basic income? A few more details will be greatly appreciated.

ud0··on Ask HN: As a self-taught programmer where can I learn some CS?
How good is this book?

Truer words have never been spoken.
ud0··on Ask HN: What do you use to build your resume?
Thanks. That's a good point.
ud0··on Ask HN: What do you use to build your resume?
I actually just redid my resume here https://udokah.github.io/resume

Created with React/Webpack/HTML5/CSS3

The cool(or not so cool) thing is that it generates a PDF version of the page using NodeJS for every new update which is downloadable via the link provided.

Hosted with Github Pages.

ud0··on Ask HN: What are you learning right now?
Data structures and Algorithm. I am a self-taught developer with experience with serverside programming languages but right now I sell myself as a front-end dev.
ud0··on Ask HN: Self taught programmers without CS degree working at one of the big 5?
Are you into frontend/backend? Also, Do frontend interviews require that the algorithms be done in Javascript?
ud0··on Ask HN: Self taught programmers without CS degree working at one of the big 5?
Congratulations! as a front-end engineer, did you also have to master Algorithms and Data Structures to be able to get into Apple?
ud0··on Ask HN: Self taught programmers without CS degree working at one of the big 5?
What resources did you use links will be helpful and how long did it take from Bootcamp to Google
ud0··on Ask HN: Should I even bother trying to sell to universities?
Awesome stuff
ud0··on Show HN: JavaScript regex tester for macOS
Awesome design, I just started learning regex deeply so this is serendipity :)
ud0··on Ask HN: Moving to Front End Engineering after 10 years in back end, worth it?
The demand for skilled Front-end engineers have gone up. Looking at the responses from this post you can see that a lot of back-end engineers find it hard to tame the beast that is Javascript & this mis-understanding has slowly turned to hate. Thus while they run away from it, this leaves an large opening. Let's face it the bulk of services we use now live on the web and Front-end is going to be around for a long time. Someone has to take on this task, this is why over the years I've personally seen front-end engineers earn the same as back-end engineers I don't have the statistics but I know folks personally. As people run away from JS this creates a demand for front-end heroes willing to take on the ever changing landscape turbulent but necessary. For crying out loud you are reading this comment on a page.
ud0··on Ask HN: Experience working with African developers
Not just education but also quality education is a priviledge.
ud0··on Ask HN: Which non-technology book has influenced you the most and why?
Think and Grow Rich.

It totally turned my life around, no I didn't get a ton of money but it completely shifted my mentality, changed the way I saw the world, opened my eyes.

The strongest lesson the book had on me was that it made me realize that a man if he is willing can change his life, change what he doesn't like about his life and make it right. I just finished high-school when a family friend gave the book to me.

I learned about goals, how to set goals, it gave me the audacity to dream big, I learned that the man can influence the mind which influences matter.

I just started learning to code at the time, fast-forward seven years later, a kid from a humble background living in the lower-middle-class Africa who couldn't afford a laptop had no access to stable electricity and could not even afford to pay for internet connection, is now a Software Engineer in a big Co. in Europe.

With all those challenges and even more faced by a poor African, I was able to scale through, motivation and drive that was ignited over 8 years ago still burning strong.

ud0··on Ask HN: Keep learning by doing or study CS theory?
Looked at your side projects, cool. You should take sometime to polish the UI. Look at examples from dribble. You UI may/may not stop you from getting a good job if it looks too amateurish.
ud0··on Ask HN: Where to find people to code together with?
I can't send you a direct message on here visit www.udo.com.ng and send me a message from there :)
ud0··on Ask HN: Speeding up front-end layout development?
Mockup

- Simply use sheets of paper with a pencil, draw the mockups & pin on a board for the whole team to see, this makes it easier to change stuff. I find digital mockup tools slow.

- If you need High fidelity design, get a designer to spin this up, if you attempt to use your poor photoshop skills, you are likely going to slow things down.

Development/Implementation/tooling

- Uses SASS + PostCSS + SMACSS, this cannot be overemphasised why? At first, it may take some time to set up but will save you tonnes of hours later. SASS enables you write modular CSS, nesting will save your life and PostCSS will help you with messy cross-browser stuff like vendor-prefixes. Modular css will help you iterate faster because it's clear where to find what. _header.scss, _sidebar.scss you get the point.

- Use a CSS grid framework, don't waste time writing yours, even so, extract bootstrap's plug it in and use.

- For form elements and typography use a CSS framework and if you need anything custom modify as you go along, note you should have a file e.g _modified_btn.scss where these customizations will live so you don't go crazy in the future trying to find it.

- Set up hot-reload somehow, with React this is easy. It will save you stress hitting `ctrl + R` 1000 times.

- Use IDE/Editor plugins that automatically prettify your code personally, I code with Sublime Text 3 so I use HTMLPrettifier and set `format_on_save: true` you don't want to waste time hitting tabs.

ud0··on Ask HN: Where to find people to code together with?
Hey what are your specific skillset and how long have you been coding, I'm willing to pair with someone and work on something if it's interesting enough. I work on side projects in my free time and I work full time as a front-end engineer used to be full-stack.
ud0··on Ask HN: Will front end development ever move away from JavaScript?
This is a beautiful answer.
ud0··on Ask HN: What's your most profitable side project?
http://tweet-threader.herokuapp.com/ Not yet profitable though.
ud0··on Show HN: I built an app to create threads on Twitter and also to learn Redux
Updated the homepage :)
ud0··on Show HN: I built an app to create threads on Twitter and also to learn Redux
Thanks for the usefull feedback. It was meant to be a not-so-serious sideproject but I guess the homepage should at least been more descriptive, side projects are projects too and deserve some work on the landing page.

ud0··on Ask HN: Is this useful?
Really cool from a geek point of view, but I don't see how this replace ctrl + c?
ud0··on A Prettier JavaScript Formatter
I'm already using and it works really nice, also submitted a pull request too. But one thing I've always looked for in formatters is still missing here, it's the ability to format the JSX in React.

It would be nice if the JSX in React's render could be formatted nicely because a lot of times the code get's so long that formatting and indenting becomes inaccurate.

ud0··on Ask HN: If you could live and work somewhere, where would it be?
Unites States of America. You are closer to more opportunities as a software dev than any where else in the world.
ud0··on Ask HN: What important career choices did you make in 2016?
Impressive. Out of curiosity, how did you come up with so many Unicode emoticons? crowd-sourced?
