tyfighter··on Freeaim VR Shoes
It may look like the person in the demo videos is having to step very carefully because they don't feel very stable underfoot, but in actuality they have to pee really badly and they're desperately searching for a bathroom.
tyfighter··on The first two custom silicon chips designed by Microsoft for its cloud
But from the pictures, the Maia 100 is also using CoWoS packaging. That will be necessary for any new HBM chip.

You use ironwail (https://github.com/andrei-drexler/ironwail), and start downloading and playing maps from the sites above :).
tyfighter··on Quake Brutalist Jam II
There is a huge Quake mapping community that has been consistently producing amazing new maps, map packs, and full mods.

tyfighter··on Quake Brutalist Jam II
The scene has existed since the beginning, but the work that has been coming out of the Quake community for the last 6 years or so has been outstanding. They keep making more and knocking it out of the park. I've played all of it, and keep coming back for more :).
tyfighter··on Ask HN: Are You Religious?
No. Atheist.

tyfighter··on Recursive COW Pages in Userspace
I've done this exact thing before too in long public software, and yes it works. I think the hot take at the end that this is bad is overly negative. This is what those Windows APIs are for.
tyfighter··on I hired 5 people to sit behind me and make me productive for a month
This is much more mental illness than productivity.
tyfighter··on Which GPU(s) to get for deep learning
I can't really judge the accuracy of the rest of the article, but if they can't even get the names of the GPUs they're recommending correct, it's tough to trust the rest of their supposedly thorough analysis. Throughout the whole article, the author refers to the "NVIDIA RTX 40 Ampere series", which is wrong. The RTX 30 series is Ampere [1] and the RTX 40 series is Ada [2].

tyfighter··on If you're a developer that doesn't use AWS, what are the reasons you avoid it?
Because I work on desktop/system software.
tyfighter··on Show HN: Modifying Clang for a Safer, More Explicit C++
I think you missed the point I was trying to make. C/C++ currently: 1.) "variable" -> something that is subject to change 2.) "const variable" -> an unchanging thing that is subject to change (I guess you could say it only changes once).

This thing and Rust: "constant" -> something unable to change "mutable constant" -> a changeable constant...what? Even "mutable variable" -> a changeable thing that is a thing that is subject change doesn't make much more sense.

It is fine for "things" to be immutable by default, and in fact I think they should be. I just think "mutable" is keyword smell similar to "decltype" because type wasn't keyworded from the start.

tyfighter··on Show HN: Modifying Clang for a Safer, More Explicit C++
I really do not understand the Rust-esque love of the "mutable" keyword in rebellion of "const". They are most often attached to variables. The definition of the word variable is "subject to variation or changes". By definition, variables change. Constants do not change. I understand that the semantics here are historical, but it's very much like "Automated ATM Machine". Maybe I just don't like the word mutable, and would prefer "var" or "varying".
tyfighter··on Circle – A C++ bare metal environment for Raspberry Pi with USB
This is a somewhat confusing name considering Circle is the name of an established C++ metaprogramming compiler (https://www.circle-lang.org/).
tyfighter··on Cadkey or Catia? Boeing’s Billion-Dollar 3D CAD Mistake (2017)
Anyone remember Gil Gunderson ("Ol' Gil") from the Simpsons who one time tried to sell Colecos to the school with "rust proofing"? This article reads like its from entirely from the salesman's perspective, going through mumbles and ramblings about how a PC based solution was just as good as those stupid and expensive UNIX workstations. Nowhere is performance mentioned. Any machine capable of running CATIA would have outperformed a desktop PC at the time by orders of magnitude.
tyfighter··on Bit Test and Reset vs. Compilers
The destination register is undefined, but it does set the zero flag. That's why the intrinsics return a value to be used for that condition.
tyfighter··on Bit Test and Reset vs. Compilers
Why not use x86's BSF or BSR instructions? They've been around since 386.
tyfighter··on The only paradigm millennials understand NFTs in is DRM
The only paradigm I understand NFTs in is word salad. I made sure to read each tweet at least twice, and I still have no idea what they're trying to say.
tyfighter··on Analog – An analogous, indented syntax for the Rust programming language
Dangling parens? This is terrible.
tyfighter··on A Guide to Finding Faith
I can't fully express how much I hate every word of this. At no point does the author ever make a rational point, and yet they are convinced they've swayed the audience with their nonsensical religious rhetoric.
tyfighter··on Beyond “Fermi’s Paradox” XVI: What Is the “Dark Forest” Hypothesis?
That's not possible. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No-communication_theorem)
