txsh··on How a Guy from a Montana Trailer Park Overturned 150 Years of Biology (2016)
He grew up in a trailer park. Then he went to university and became a scientist. He not just some guy in a trailer. This headline is terribly insulting.
txsh··on Tesla Plunges After a Conference Call
As spiteful as Enron’s investors were.
txsh··on Tesla Plunges After a Conference Call
I’m sure that’s what his press releases say.
txsh··on Tesla Plunges After a Conference Call
He doesn’t want to do those things. He wants people to give him billions of dollars on the promise to do those things. Musk survives on putting in a minimal ammount of effort and having a great marketing team. The guy is a fraud.
txsh··on Ask HN: What you watch to laugh?
Comrade Detective (Amazon)

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon)

Future Man (Hulu)

American Vandal (Netflix)

txsh··on Particle Physics Resurrects Alexander Graham Bell’s Voice
It doesn’t seem right that a man who fought so hard to prevent deaf people from being taught sign language now gets to be heard forever.

Bell was a despicable monster whose work led to forced sterilizations in the US and to the holocaust in Germany.

If it had been me, I would have smashed the disk.

txsh··on Ask HN: Why does YouTube autoplay songs I have downvoted?
And what’s the deal with airplane food? Could it tast any worse?
txsh··on I built a screenshot API and some guy was mining cryptocurrencies with it
> I think it’s one of the most pacific way I did mitigate an attack, and he was not that bad of a guy after all.

“Pacific”? Did you mean “specific” or “pacifistic”?

txsh··on Relative's DNA from genealogy websites cracked East Area Rapist case
That's not what I'm talking about. Your DNA can end up under the fingernails of a murder victim with no connection to you. Your name cannot. There was a Wired article about this the other day:

https://www.wired.com/story/dna-transfer-framed-murder/

txsh··on Relative's DNA from genealogy websites cracked East Area Rapist case
There are other downsides, too.

I have a cousin who found out, in his 50s, after his mother and father had passed away, that he was not related to anybody in our family. It crushed him.

txsh··on Relative's DNA from genealogy websites cracked East Area Rapist case
The difference is your name isn't plastered on every object you come in contact with. Your name isn't transferred to other people who come in contact with the same objects as you. Your name doesn't end up in other locations that have nothing to do with you.

The idea I could get arrested because my cousin coughed on a doorknob is terrifying. Everyone has that black sheep in their family. Why should I get harassed by the police every time they or someone they know commits a crime?

txsh··on SEC Penalizes Yahoo $35M for Massive, Undisclosed Cyber Theft
Not it isn’t. “Undisclosed” is an adjective. The title says that the SEC penalized Yahoo for a “cyber theft” that was “massive” and “undisclosed.”

“SEC Penalizes Yahoo $35M for Non-Disclosure of Massive Cyber Theft” would be better.

txsh··on The Era of Very Low Inflation and Interest Rates May Be Near an End
You’re right. Housing isn’t a consumer good. But CPI does fail to measure inflation in consumer goods. I agree with op that there has been inflation for years.
txsh··on A Well-Known Expert on Student Loans Is Not Real
This is only slightly more nefarious than when these newspapers inventa source.
txsh··on Chart of the Milky Way Includes More Than 1B Stars
It’s not mundane to me when you consider how much mineral wealth is just out of reach.
txsh··on [dead]
On mobile this link just brings up an advertisement and email collection form.
txsh··on Amazon is said to be building home robots
Is it just an Alexa that cleans floors? I can’t imagine what other tasks this could perform.
txsh··on I founded Happy Cow Milk to make a difference in dairying. I failed
There’s consumer demand for veal. It’s delicious. Companies just don’t want the headaches caused by the finger-waggers. So many male calves are shot and discarded instead of becoming food. It’s insane.
txsh··on To Delete Facebook or Not to Delete Facebook? That Is Not the Question
One of the reasons why I left Facebook was because I was tired of invites. I got tired of getting harassing messages from people upset I hadn't yet logged in to Facebook to RSVP yes/no/maybe to events I had zero interest in. No, I don't want to go to your child's birthday party. Leave me alone.
txsh··on Pulitzer Prize Winners Moving to PR: What Does That Say About Future Journalism?
I think it’s reasonable to read the title before the article.
txsh··on Heart surgeons refuse difficult operations to avoid poor mortality ratings
Should “NHS” be added to the title? This seems to only apply to British heart surgeons.
txsh··on Pulitzer Prize Winners Moving to PR: What Does That Say About Future Journalism?
Anybody else wonder why writers were moving to Puerto Rico?
txsh··on Darwin: a genomics co-processor provides up to 15,000x acceleration
I think it’s clear what he meant and you’re being purposefully obtuse. If I said I was going to put a problem “on the internet” you would know I didn’t mean the netowrking infrastructure was going to produce a solution.
txsh··on Man Accused of Making 97M Robocalls
I use Google Voice.

I send all calls that block the caller ID automatically to voicemail.

If I get repeated spam voicemails from the same number, I manually add it to a contact called “Block”. The next time they call they get a special voicemail message I recorded telling them the number is no longer in service.

This system has worked well for years.

txsh··on San Francisco to scooter startups: Your customers are terrible
Scooter startups, why not pay homeless people to relocate scooters to safe areas after people leave them?

You would be doing a good thing and cities would be happy to deal with your scooters if you deal with their homeless problem.

txsh··on Mailtrain.org, self-hosted open-source newsletter app like Mailchimp
You don’t have to send spam to end up on a blacklist.
txsh··on Pinebook: An Affordable 64-bit ARM based Open Source Notebook
I’m convinced Apple is working towards something like this.
txsh··on Ask HN: Girlfriend is being shown ads depending on what we do together. How?
This was happening to me until I removed Facebook and Facebook Messenger from my phone. I believe these apps listen to conversations even when you aren’t using them. I am not alone in believing this.
txsh··on My 10-Year Odyssey Through America’s Housing Crisis
What I don’t see anybody talking about what’s going on with car loans. The next time we have a recession it’s going to be a lot worse as people will lose both their houses and their cars. I know a waitress who can barely afford an apartment, with no family support or co-signer, who financed a brand new Jeep. This is not sustainable.
txsh··on Cryptocurrency YouTuber Ian Balina hacked out of $2M during a livestream
Losing money in 2018 would not affect 2017 income tax.
