tswicegood··on On AppengineJS
Looks really cool, but I wouldn't go so far as to classify NodeJS as a "toy" solution. Using your definition, Sinatra is a "toy" solution, as is default PHP. None of those have "deployment processes, multi version processes, system setup, server tuning, database scaling, backup processes, security policies, monitoring, profiling, admin console etc, etc." baked in either.

I've started a Slinkset for this project as well. If you're participating, add your blog posts and such to it: http://wywof.slinkset.com/

@pook Hope this means you're in…? I'm going to start on it for a redesign of my site, but with one change. I'm doing 15 minutes a day (105 a week).
tswicegood··on Ask HN: Anyone else need to stop and smell the roses?
Yeah. It's a constant battle. Friends and my wife help remind me when things are getting too crazy. That and the length of my beard. :-)
tswicegood··on SolarPHP 1.0.0 Stable Released
Actually, that's a bit of a sore spot with Solar's creator. Solar was announced before Solr was, but Solr wouldn't rename their project. :-/
tswicegood··on The problem with Python namespaces
I'm working from a link I was given when I started asking how namespaces/modules worked and why they weren't working for me. The answer I got was "first, you're probably doing it wrong if you need namespaces, and here's why <url>. second, here's the answer to your problem."

I'm trying to locate the article and I'll include it once I've found it. That's what I based my comment on.

tswicegood··on Books you shouldn't read when starting out as a programmer
Please do tell? Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture (PEAA), Refactoring, Refactoring to Patterns, and the various Pragmatic books.

I avoided the first edition too. Dave Thomas' blog post about the new edition is what got me to read it.

I've yet to read Land the Tech Job You Love. I know I should, I just sort of have the tech job I love :-) At any rate, they're both supposed to be very complimentary.

tswicegood··on John Deere and iPhones
I looked but couldn't find much. Guess John Deere doesn't think it's a good idea to mirror all of their ads on YouTube :-(
