tstrimple··on Jellyfin 12.0
I think most folks lean on Calibre for that. I've setup KOReader on my wife's Kobo and it looks at our local Calibre server for books.

Best to specify the formats you can play in the *arr tools than rely on client transcoding. I aim for media I can direct play and the filters in radarr and sonarr make that pretty easy. I also use tdarr to clean up / convert things I couldn't get a direct play file for.
tstrimple··on I-have-ADHD: A skill to stop coding agents from burying the answer
It helps to understand how these tools work. One of the reasons CLAUDE.md doesn't survive longer contexts is it's towards the top of the context. One of the reasons the Claude Code voice survives is it's part of the output style which gets "reminded" to the context at every turn as part of the system context. If you want something truly durable, you should customize your output style. I have zero "load-bearing" issues.

And maybe the worst parents.

tstrimple··on There's a new "Google Jail" for independent wikis
I recently started playing Palworld again with my son. The fan sites are simply terrible. Incomplete information and out of date. Tons of boilerplate nonsense that adds zero value. I used Claude Code to read the game data files and create a personal palworld wiki based on the data actually in the game. Pulled the in-game map assets to use as a foundation and linked between all the things which should have links. Look up a material and you can see all the Pals which drop it. Look up a Pal and you can see where they are found and all the things they drop, etc. Far, far more useful than any of the existing fan sites I found.

I also did this with a far more obscure game which doesn't have nearly as much content online. Lucid Blocks. That game was weird AF and the systems didn't make any sense without tons of experimentation. I started by using CC as a journal for things I discovered to help try to build a coherent world view. Ended up just using CC to build a wiki for the game with all the entities and items based off of actual game data.

Democracy breaks down when you have one political party explicitly attacking it and "enlightened centrists" like you defending them while they do it.
tstrimple··on Leaving VMware just got harder after Broadcom pulled VDDK downloads
I've lead roughly $20M in cloud migration projects in the last two years away from vmware to cloud services as replacements. Just insane what MBAs are willing to do to a product to squeeze short term profits. Even more insane that this country largely sees these people as a benefit to society and not the vultures they are.
tstrimple··on Global warming will exceed 1.5-degree limit, UN says
And here you are playing their fucking game. They wouldn't be such degenerate shitheads if people weren't mean to them. As if there isn't a strong line of cruelty throughout all of conservative history in this country. Your argument is she wouldn't have been raped if she hasn't been wearing what she was wearing. That black boy wouldn't have been lynched if he hadn't cat-called a white woman. Regardless of whether or not he actually did. It puts the fault of the worst of our society on the normal folks just trying to live their lives. Conservatives are shit people because are incapable of empathy for the out-group. Not because liberals were mean to them online.

If Republicans didn't have double standards they wouldn't have any standards at all. The lie is part of the appeal to Republicans. He's telling them what they want to hear not matter how irrational. Listen long enough, you can probably find something you agree with. Just hold on tightly to that one thing while ignoring everything else and you too can be part of the cult.

Clair Obscur was a far, far more memorable game for me and it's not even close. One actually has a story and characters to care about. The other is a masochism simulation.
tstrimple··on Ask HN: How do you manage skills files?
I have CC do a review / audit of my entire CC stack and architecture every major model / harness release for recommended changes. What goes into my CLAUDE.md files has been shrinking over time. There is a skill review tool as well which helps determine how effective they are.

Stop being so fucking patronizing. I was raised by these people. Most of my family are still these people. I’ve experienced their bullshit for over 40 years. Your high minded nonsense in no way applies. I see what they cheer for.

It’s an intentionally designed problem in blue cities that exist in red states. Constant ratfuckery by republicans influencing polling locations.

And that they are the “real Americans” who make all the money and all of their tax dollars go to pay for lazy city people. Never mind that counties which vote democratic account for over 70% of the GDP. Their entire existence is subsidized by the actual tax payers in cities and they resent us for it.

tstrimple··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
They were evil fucks. Slavery was one among many deplorable things conservatives supported and still mostly support to this day. They also opposed women's suffrage. They opposed civil rights and fought to maintain segregation. They fought against gay rights. They fight against trans rights. They literally fight against any minority who might land on an equal playing field. Hey... guess who has been stating lately that women shouldn't be allowed to vote?

They are always the first to cast someone as an "other" and scapegoat for all of their problems. You're the type of person to hear "Haitians are eating their cats and dogs!" or "Mexico is sending us rapists and murders" and say "That guy has a good point!". It's pretty fucking gross and you're a clown at best for defending them.

tstrimple··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
I'm sorry you're too dense to see why "The Party of Lincoln" is defending the confederate flags and confederate monuments. They must just really believe in states rights except where it actually helps people. Sort of like the confederates who pretended to be about states rights while demanding other states return their "escaped property". And it doesn't explain everything in US politics. I never claimed your strawman. It explains US conservative's degeneracy. Their complete lack of shame or civility. They never had any.
tstrimple··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
Sounds like you’re completely ignorant to US history post civil war. You seem to know nothing about the daughters of the confederacy. Know nothing about segregation and Jim Crow. You have no idea that conservatives fight to this day to maintain monuments to literal traitors to the country. Or that they still routinely fly the flag of traitors to the country. Or more likely you do know about all of that and agree with it and just want to white wash conservative history in the US.

tstrimple··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
The far right won office and made it manifest. Just like they complain on government inefficiency and that it can never accomplish anything while explicitly making those things worse while in power to prove their point.
tstrimple··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
I think you’re underestimating the true believers. Plenty of conservatives are willing to suffer if they think it makes others suffer more. See Dying of Whiteness.
tstrimple··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
Imagine there had been no Nuremberg trials. The Nazis just got a slap on the wrist and almost immediately let back into politics as usual. That's how we got here. We're still fighting the remnants of the confederacy. Germany and Japan in particular purged most of those elements from their society. Here we built statues to the evil fucks.
tstrimple··on Seattle public schools shuts down gifted and talented program
I'm progressive. I don't view them as bad. So you're wrong again. Where I do think they are problematic is when they are introduced incredibly early. No kindergartner needs to be segregated into a gifted program. Especially gifted programs which don't have universal screening which allows teacher bias to influence class demographics.
tstrimple··on Seattle public schools shuts down gifted and talented program
You are factually wrong. According to actual studies which follow these things, high IQ students do not increase their scores when in gifted programs compared to being in general education. It's a wash. The ones who benefit most are disadvantaged kids. I know, you hate the idea of equity. But universal screening showed that Hispanic kids participation rate in gifted programs increased by over 100% when all kids were screened for access to gifted programs instead of relying on teacher + parent recommendation. For black children, they increased by around 75%. *Those* children were the only ones to actually see improved scores from gifted programs.

tstrimple··on Seattle public schools shuts down gifted and talented program
Mostly the is down to conservatives being completely incurious to the science of education and actual data around it. Especially because of the news sources they use. For example Seattle wasn't ending gifted programs. They were redistributing them so that students could go to the school they lived closest to instead of being bussed across the city. The article doesn't mention that the decision was reversed in 2025 and they are going to operate a hybrid model where the cohort schools still exist and parents can opt into either model. But go off on a deliberately misleading headline from an obviously biased source. It's the conservative thing to do.
