tristan957··on JMAP for Calendars, Contacts and Files Now in Stalwart
JMAP works in my email client, aerc.
tristan957··on Servo v0.0.1
Blink is the backing engine of Chromium.
tristan957··on Palisades Fire suspect's ChatGPT history to be used as evidence
I'm not going to watch random German videos to confirm your statement for you. Please share a timestamp in a particular video.

How was there any brainwashing? What are your thoughts on climate change?

tristan957··on Fastmail desktop app
Every Electron thread goes the same way on HN. Engaging is a lost cause. As a Linux user, Electron is the only way many companies even acknowledge our existence. Getting native integrations without the native UI is always going to be better than nothing.

Climate change can create factors that make wildfires much larger or more dangerous.

I'm dubious of your claim that climate change was cited as a cause in any serious publication. Can you provide any sources?

Every fire has an ignition, and climate change is not an ignition like a lit cigarette or a lightning strike. It merely creates conditions.

tristan957··on Zoxide: A Better CD Command
That's what an alias is for. I don't want that behavior, but you are free to do it for yourself.
tristan957··on Libghostty is coming
libghostty will eventually export a Terminal widget that can be used in GTK as well, so in that regard they serve a similar purpose.
tristan957··on Xmonad seeking help for Wayland port (2023)
Application toolkits will eventually drop support for X11. GTK will remove it in GTK5. Not sure what Qt's plans are, but I'd have to think X11 support is long for this world there as well.
tristan957··on Is Zig's new writer unsafe?
That was not my takeaway from his comment at all.
tristan957··on Stepping Down as Libxml2 Maintainer
mcatanzaro frequently makes these over the top comments, and when called out, refuses to backtrack on them.
tristan957··on OrioleDB Patent: now freely available to the Postgres community
Thanks for the quick fix.

> In his announcement on Friday, Rubio said: "Before the PLO and PA can be considered partners for peace, they must consistently repudiate terrorism - including the October 7 massacre - and end incitement to terrorism in education, as required by U.S. law and as promised by the PLO."

I'm assuming that the Saudi Arabian congregation got visas. State-sponsored terrorism is OK if it's 9/11 or the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, but not in this case. The US is truly a vassal state for Israel and Saudi Arabia.

tristan957··on We rewrote the Ghostty GTK application
I don't think you know enough about GTK if you think having a CSS parser is bloat in a UI toolkit versus a whole theming engine.
tristan957··on We rewrote the Ghostty GTK application
You didn't explain anything wrong with GTK. You just brought up Electron out of nowhere.
tristan957··on We rewrote the Ghostty GTK application
I don't think you've used Ghostty in a while. It has auto installing terminfo when ssh-ing.

Also, every program ever depends on a certain version of a compiler, so I don't understand this complaint. Ghostty requires Zig 0.14. That's it, not a specific compiler hash. blueprint-compiler is packaged for pretty much every distribution these days.

tristan957··on We rewrote the Ghostty GTK application
What does this have to do with Ghostty?
tristan957··on TeaOnHer, a rival Tea app for men, is leaking users' personal data
Andrew Tate is a rapist. We should not listen to anything he says with regard to women, at the very least.
tristan957··on Emailing a one-time code is worse than passwords
The UX of having to switch apps or websites is terrible when I have auto fill available via the Web browser or a password manager.
tristan957··on Emailing a one-time code is worse than passwords
Every vendor implements export and import. Why do you think you would need to manually migrate?
tristan957··on 19% of California houses are owned by investors
It reduces supply for people who exclusively want to own. I'm not going to tell people what is the better financial decision for them, but there is a segment of society that wants to own a home regardless of whether renting is more financially beneficial.
tristan957··on Omarchy, a Linux Distribution by DHH
If you're used to i3, maybe you would be interested in Sway. It's a port of i3 to Wayland.
tristan957··on Omarchy, a Linux Distribution by DHH
I don't use Homebrew because it installs to /home/linuxbrew/.linuxbrew. It makes absolutely no sense to use a whole new user, and then use non-standard directories.

If you change where Homebrew installs, then you are on your own because they don't support changing the install path.

tristan957··on Japan: Apple Must Lift Browser Engine Ban by December
You're completely ignoring the staying power of defaults. Most users do not change anything about their system defaults.
tristan957··on Japan: Apple Must Lift Browser Engine Ban by December
FWIW, Mozilla seems to share the same sentiments about many of the standards that Google has been pushing for. They may have different incentives, but Apple does not sit alone on every one of their views.
tristan957··on Japan: Apple Must Lift Browser Engine Ban by December
My understanding is that Gecko has already been ported to iOS.
tristan957··on Replacing tmux in my dev workflow
Because Mitchell doesn't use terminal search, and neither do most of the maintainers.
tristan957··on Replacing tmux in my dev workflow
What is the benefit of this over pbcopy and wl-copy?
tristan957··on Replacing tmux in my dev workflow
Ghostty has infrastructure to support it from my understanding, like Mitchell did the initial plumbing. It just takes a spirited individual to finish it up.
tristan957··on Where's Firefox going next?
You can't donate to the Mozilla Corporation. The Foundation is where donations go.
tristan957··on Apple's Browser Engine Ban Persists, Even Under the DMA
GNOME Web is just chrome around WebKit.
