trident5000··on The elderly are becoming homeless at a rate not seen since the Great Depression
Imagine thinking where you want to live is more important than physics.
trident5000··on New study finds microplastics infiltrate all systems of body, alter behaviour
yup
trident5000··on New study finds microplastics infiltrate all systems of body, alter behaviour
Very sure. I took my sweet time inspecting it and then just about puked before tossing that trash. Never ate there again. The burger was disgusting aside from the plastic as well which was the only reason I even inspected it in the first place.
trident5000··on New study finds microplastics infiltrate all systems of body, alter behaviour
It was disgusting with too much sauce so I looked. How do I know it was plastic...because I have eyes and it was plastic.
trident5000··on New study finds microplastics infiltrate all systems of body, alter behaviour
Yep, it looked like it was from an ingredients bag that was cut open. Thats my best guess.
trident5000··on New study finds microplastics infiltrate all systems of body, alter behaviour
I bought a tub of BCAA powder from Ghost and was horrified after finding a large spidery plastic blob buried in there. I went to Burger King and looked inside the burger randomly which I never do and found plastic. Theres a microplastic issue but theres also a large plastic issue in food. Often times you do even notice when you eat it.
trident5000··on Pentagon contracting Starlink to provide satellite communications for Ukraine
"apart from Musk's statements"

So the CEO of the company?

trident5000··on Mastodon provides the highest (over 12%) engagement under posts
I started a book club and my engagement is 100%!
trident5000··on Mastodon provides the highest (over 12%) engagement under posts
So like....engagement that's in line with any small niche platform where mostly enthusiasts use it? Comparing it to Instagram is ridiculous.
trident5000··on FBI Misused Spy Database, FISA Court Says
These agencies smell especially as of recent. Defunding many of them and starting over makes a lot of sense. You're not going to get the corruption out without a complete overhaul. I would argue the FBI falls into the defund category with the latest events.
trident5000··on Tech entrepreneurship and shifting sentiment
I do think those things are great but I would say that culture is substantially worse. People are less kind/patient, more disrespectful, more isolated, more narcissistic, less family oriented, more politically combative, have shorter attention spans, and are less happy than prior generations.
trident5000··on Tell HN: Do not store any funds in PayPal or use them for anything critical
Happened to me. I did absolutely nothing nefarious; I'm the most boring person you can imagine. It was clearly some internal logistics they screwed up. When I called them they said "they couldnt tell me the reason why" and that was that.
trident5000··on Females more likely than males to be elected in US scientific societies
"This also speaks to the possibility of greater intellectual superiority in women than in men"

Or the ability to do diligent repeating work and sit in a chair.

trident5000··on YouTube Doesn't “Get It”
You always have heads of products who feel they need to do something to make their name known or feel like they're doing their job. They did more and the product is clearly worse.

What they needed to do was nothing, but thats out of line with restless employees.

trident5000··on Stanford's “Elimination of Harmful Language” Initiative
"trying to deny rights" You dont have a right to force people to call you by pronouns that are getting more absurd by the day or not say certain words. Maybe drop the victim card and stop being a controlling fascist yourself? "someone who shouldnt be allowed to engage" another absolutely classic and oppressive line thats not at all unexpected from someone with your views. Sadly this has become typical and a stereotype is being reinforced.
trident5000··on Stanford's “Elimination of Harmful Language” Initiative
Someone pointing out a perspective on the topic and then calling that person the classic "hitler" is why you're getting a lot of broad backlash these days.

Instead of insulting someone for an opinion, maybe try making a counter point thats on topic and relevant to the comment? I know its tiring to have a conversation on the issue and its easier to attack people but thats how discussion goes.

trident5000··on Stanford's “Elimination of Harmful Language” Initiative
This whole movement is just about control and power over other people - from people who have no control in their life and desperately want it. If they tell you that you cant say a word, and you abide, it gives them power over you and that stokes their ego. Its the same with pronouns. Its just an avenue to bully people and tell them what to do. At first it was somewhat reasonable, and now its just hijacked by selfish people who are making the whole thing crazier every day.
trident5000··on The golden age of streaming TV is over
Whatever service has the least commercials and little time commitment is basically what I watch.

Right now I like YouTube premium. Although YouTube is making big mistakes like removing the downvote count. Gaslighting your users to appease creators and control narrative is not good.

I'm about to cut YouTube TV though. Its all commercials and bad content. Even CNBC is unwatchable to me.

Bloomberg as well. I have a $400 subscription to Bloomberg and they're still showing me commercials its absurd. How greedy can you be. I cant take that repeating chime and same 3 commercials hitting me in the head in the morning. Going to have a seizure.

trident5000··on Marion Smith, the world’s most prolific cave explorer, dies at 80
Nutty Putty Cave is the most horrifying way to die I have ever read and I have no interest in caving after reading about it.
trident5000··on Musk’s $5.7B Mystery Gift Went to His Own Charity
Ah, the daily liberals are mad at Elon post.
trident5000··on Twitter has re-suspended ElonJet account
Yeah, Elon and his family are going to take the Greyhound.
trident5000··on Twitter has re-suspended ElonJet account
He said in multiple tweets theres still rules particularly with direct harm to people. Idk why you would think doxxing and tracking someones location (which in this case they stalked his family) would be ok. I feel like this is just a talking point even though you and others know better but just dont like Musk. If thats the case just say it.
trident5000··on Twitter has re-suspended ElonJet account
You get into a car after a plane
trident5000··on Twitter has re-suspended ElonJet account
Your home location is also public info. Publishing it on twitter is still doxxing and always has been.
trident5000··on The United States of America vs. Samuel Bankman-Fried Indictment [pdf]
The charges against SBF add up to over 100 years.
trident5000··on The United States of America vs. Samuel Bankman-Fried Indictment [pdf]
Best years? More like all the years.
trident5000··on Tesla calls self-driving technology 'failure,' not fraud
This header is misleading. Lawyers are making a legal point, not a prediction on the tech or where it stands and certainly not saying "its a failure". They don't even have the technical insight to make that assertion.
trident5000··on Google combines Maps and Waze teams in restructuring move
Its a big problem these funds that are essentially custodians are taking their customers voting power to break corporations to their will. Needs to be legislation that curbs this as many others have been saying.
trident5000··on GE buys out entire NYT print paper in historic first
idk about culturally but financially theyve been decimated from their former self. It was a very large conglomerate and they strategically kept certain parts and spun off others so there probably is a resilient business or two in there somewhere but it will mostly likely always be a shadow of its former self.
trident5000··on Neuralink faces federal probe, employee backlash over animal tests
Bud, these animals go to war with each other and tear each others faces off and get eaten alive by predators every day. This is hardly the worst thing to happen and its the only way to make progress in this area. They're also not trying to be cruel, its not some torture chamber.
