Any platform that benefits from writers’ and creators’ work but doesn’t give them control over their relationships will inevitably wonder how to respond to the platforms that do."

Yup, they removed it.

Why specifically track political parties? Where is author_is_american? Or author_is_mayonnaise_enjoyer?

Maybe it was a choice made many years ago that they thought was appropriate, but we can't yet know it's not used for other purposes. We can at least be reasonably sure they've added the author_is_elon within the past year. I would have thought there would be many more descriptors, or non-controversial descriptors.

Or maybe Elon specifically added those before releasing this code to get people riled up.

tric··on The Twitter API is now effectively unmaintained
It's not just uptime. They are making weird changes like making it so that replies show up in the Following feed as if it were a regular tweet without context.

I've also unfollowed many people, and they still show up in my feed.

Musk also said only paid accounts will show up in the For You feed, but then later said it will also include people you follow.

> height

I know that some of these apps allow for minimum height requirements. People don't like it went you suggest apps add width requirements in response.

Even if it's not explicitly a metric on the app, many people will say they have a min. height req. in their profile.

> income / salary / net worth / debt

I also seem to remember okcupid having some kind of education requirement, or heavily emphasized education.

it's not uncommon for lawful hedge funds trading equities to have offshore shell companies. Employees of those funds have these types of accounts too.

I only point this out because your comment read as if this was a smoking gun.

tric··on Cryptocurrencies add nothing useful to society, says chip-maker Nvidia
Take a look at Bitcoin. It's up 80% from the recent bottom.

NVDA is up 140% for similar reasons: the market anticipates the tightening cycle is over.

It's up more than Bitcoin because of the AI narrative. It's also possible money is moving out of bank stocks (compare to KRE or XLF), small/mid-cap stocks (compare to IWM), and other semiconductor stocks (compare to SMH). This trend could mean-revert into the new quarter.

The comment I was originally addressing was about the decline, not the rally.

tric··on Cryptocurrencies add nothing useful to society, says chip-maker Nvidia
> The 2017 peak happened in the middle of a US interest rate increase cycle. The 2021 peak happened 6 months before the most recent US interest rate increase cycle

Denominate the Bitcoin market cap in US M1 money supply. You will then see that it peaked in 2017, 2019, and 2021 (twice). This ratio also bottomed recently.

Effectively, when the central bank that manages the word's reserve currency starts printing money (or there is an anticipation of printing), Bitcoin appreciates. The opposite happens during tightening (ie rate hikes).

tric··on Cryptocurrencies add nothing useful to society, says chip-maker Nvidia
His claim... "it collapsed, because it doesn’t bring anything useful for society"

...is incorrect. The total crypto market cap collapsed because of interest rate hikes.

Nvidia's stock dropped 68%. Is that because it didn't bring anything useful for society? No. It was trading at a premium because of low rates.
