I use Inoreader. There's a good list over at Open RSS

trekz··on Tom Scott: After ten years, it's time to stop making videos [video]
Self-hosted, open source options are out there for RSS readers, like Tiny RSS or Inoreader if you want a nice replacement for Google Reader. Email relies on a separate app to read them though (email client).

With RSS, I like that I dont have to give up my email address that can get hacked or stolen. It's one of the reasons we have so much spam in our emails. Also like companies like openrss and rss.app that are making RSS useful and cool again.

trekz··on Moderation is different from censorship
I hear you. But maybe AI shouldn't even be in the equation. It's expecting a robot to solve a people problem. We try to do this a lot in the technology industry. But no matter how great technology is, it's a mistake to think that it can fully solve social and communication problems.
trekz··on I asked Signal motivations for SMS removal
So sounds like Google pretty much owns the RCS protocol? I know it's meant to be an open standard, but sounds like there's no point in any third party app implementing if it can't send messages to people with Google Messages.
trekz··on I asked Signal motivations for SMS removal
hmm so how is Google to get Apple's iPhones to support RCS if Google hasnt completely opened their API?
trekz··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2022)
I'm in USA and would love to apply for a engineering role, but looks like all the positions are outside of USA. Are they open to hiring anyone from USA? Thanks for any information.
trekz··on Mega says it can’t decrypt your files. New POC exploit shows otherwise
If you don't mind me asking, what do you use as an alternative?
trekz··on What a gas stove ban means for restaurants
> I prefer gas. At least where I live it's more cost effective than electric. In fact, my electric bill in my 1 bedroom apartment (all heating was electric) was just a tad lower than my gas + electric when I moved into a much bigger house.

Doesn't this prove the opposite of your point that gas is more cost-effective than electricity? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but the last sentence seems to illustrate that electricity is more cost-efficient.

trekz··on Ask HN: What to do about ‘Good at programming Bad at Leetcode’
Your hiring process sounds great. Is there a link where one could apply?
trekz··on Ask HN: Why have we accepted the cookie pop-up situation across the web?
The whole point of a shopping cart is for items that you are going to buy--not for things you may (or may not) buy tomorrow. It's a shopping cart. Not a bookmarking service. You don't go into a physical grocery store, put things in your shopping basket, leave, and expect them to be there when you walk in the next day.
trekz··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (December 2021)
Yup. The last two still work, though.
trekz··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (December 2021)
Thanks. Is there a salary band for the position posted? The 50km.com website doesn't seem to work. Are there more details on the business somewhere?
trekz··on OSHA to require employers with 100 employees vaccinate or test workforce
Exactly. In addition to that, this recurring argument that compares vaccine mandates to mandates prohibiting "bad" acts is odd.

Legally speaking, mandating the vaccine is forcing a person to act (get jabbed) through no act of their own. Mandating abortion bans is prohibiting an act (getting an abortion). So the two scenarios aren't comparable.

trekz··on Biden to mandate coronavirus vaccine for federal workers
Actually, refusing the vaccine isnt the same as driving drunk. To be in a situation where you're endangering others by driving drunk requires an action: drinking alcohol recklessly (action) Refusing the vaccine requires no action on the person's part, but somehow are still considered to be endangering others (even if they're healthy and without COVID).
