treeform··on Komanda – IRC for people that write code.
That's a nice looking UI for an IRC. Did not work in windows :(
treeform··on Show HN: Depstack – Find and vote for popular libs
Is there a list of all of the popular libraries?
treeform··on Ask HN: What would it take for you to switch to Python 3?
Issue is python3 is not that much better then python2. Simply make it much better:

1. 64 bit psyco (http://psyco.sourceforge.net/) OR another JIT compiler that is just as good. Maybe Cython like optional typing support.

2. Greenlet like networking in core that we don't have to dance around. Maybe asyncio does it.

3. Tons of people proclaiming how much better py3 is. Frankly it might be there I just don't know. We need peer pressure.

treeform··on Why you should use OpenGL and not DirectX
It feels like a lot and nothing has changed since that 3.9 year old blog post. On one had webGL, steamOS, Mac games, iOS games, and Android Games. On the other hand gaming PC is still a windows PC. What are your thoughts?
treeform··on [dead]
That should be combined with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SkdfdXWYaI
treeform··on The Future of Programming in Node.js
I remember that time too. Most of the modules I use are pretty stable now, which is nice.
treeform··on Hyperloop
I think a lot of people (including me) are excited by what he has to say. By all indication it should have showed up 7min ago.
treeform··on Building a TCP API: How we built our realtime app, Filmgrain, part 2
Exactly! You said what I could not say, but thats exactly how I feel.
treeform··on Building a TCP API: How we built our realtime app, Filmgrain, part 2
You know how to give feed back! Thanks! +1

Would length-prefixed also cause issue if malicious client send numbers that are too big, just like malicious clients now can send json with newlines?

I been using websockets in my editor for a while, but for a mobile app they seamed like they just had extra stuff we did not need. But I am warming up to them now.

Honestly we thought about it, did not use DNS because its scary. The errors and propagation slowness can cost you a ton of uptime. I feel safer with a static DNS.

treeform··on Building a TCP API: How we built our realtime app, Filmgrain, part 2
You get what many people dont! When we will need a webapp we would write a WebSocket protocol then. Why write stuff you don't need too? TCP with json was just surprisingly simple and effective for our realtime twitter+move app.
treeform··on How we built our realtime app, Filmgrain, part 1 - the backend
We wrote our own tools to monitor our components. I suffer a little bit from "not written by me syndrome" and the fact that our system is a little different. Keeper is the primary uptime monitor. We use mandrill to send out emails and twilio to send out SMS to us.
treeform··on How we built our realtime app, Filmgrain, part 1 - the backend
The feeder is written in python with gevent (will talk more about that in part 2). Every thing runs on ubutu at linode. For twitter, the library we used was tweepy. Tweepy is cool but required some tweaking. We used the filter/streaming api at twitter.
treeform··on Show HN: Filmgrain, a realtime movie + Twitter app
We are planning to write about it soon.
treeform··on Show HN: Filmgrain, a realtime movie + Twitter app
Thank you! We are not designers so it was hard for us.
treeform··on Unreal JavaScript
I have played the real Unreal 3 level (the one that ships with UDK) in the browser with bots and physics at one of the webGL meetups. It was awesome. I think the game demo is coming soon.
treeform··on Hello, PushBullet - push anything to your Android phone from your browser
Pushbullet is a superset of Chrome to Phone. Chrome to Phone can only send link while push bullet can send other Media as well such as addresses and todo lists.
treeform··on CoffeeKup is markup as CoffeeScript
I recommend taking a look at DryKup: https://github.com/mark-hahn/drykup Its basically a better CoffeeKup.
treeform··on CoffeeKup is markup as CoffeeScript
Jade is still a language. This is just near plain coffescript.
treeform··on CoffeeKup is markup as CoffeeScript
I dont have any numbers to back this up but: * templates get compiled to js * there is no magic the code you write is the code that runs

It feels faster because there is no interface between you and the template language - because there is no language its just coffee script.

treeform··on CoffeeKup is markup as CoffeeScript
I agree with you if you need a template for a blog or sales pages or some other light markup. But if you have very complex HTML that renders controls, graphs, crud - dense complex things which are less HTML and more of rendering commands in form of stacked divs. Then this wins out.
treeform··on CoffeeKup is markup as CoffeeScript
The bast thing is that all control structures such as functions, classes, conditionals, loops are just already in language you know - coffeescript. If you use coffee script after a minute or two you can learn how to write very complex coffeekup templates. Its also best suited for "more" logic in templates approach then say HAML. I would only use this an a webapp where the templates are very complex and require a lot of logic. You end up writing less code and it ends up more organized. We use modified coffee kup like template in rendering the hipmunk's UI. For example see the flight bars: http://www.hipmunk.com/flights/JFK-to-PDX#!dates=Jan15,Jan16
treeform··on WebGL Stats
This tool from the site is great in helping you choose what webGL features to use: http://webglstats.com/canuse.html
treeform··on Making Hipmunk Hotel Search on Mobile
We have included them from the start. They are an alternative to hotels just like we include Amtrak train searches in flights.
treeform··on Piracy - You can't have your cake and eat it
A big couse in pour drivers support is that companies dont publish specs to their devices. If there was only one dominant free OS like linux, companies that make hardwire would want their devices to work with it and so will write drivers or at least publish full spec.
treeform··on Python 3 implementation in Haskell
To answer my own question it looks like it supports call/cc https://github.com/bjpop/berp/blob/master/test/regression/fe...

tail calls https://github.com/bjpop/berp/blob/master/test/regression/fe...

So those features are cool at-least...

treeform··on Python 3 implementation in Haskell
I wander if it adds any of Haskell's lazy and thread features?
treeform··on Don’t look now, but AWS might be a billion-dollar biz
Not surprising, they brought cloud computing to the masses and are doing a pretty good job at it too.
treeform··on Will Dropouts Save America?
I totally understand him, I also felt the same way. But now I am on a good track in life so I would not call it a mistake. We all take different paths.
treeform··on Will Dropouts Save America?
USA: I got into collage at 14 by just taking an entrance exam, never needed a GED. No one will stop you form going to collage, you just need to pass exams.
