tree3··on YouTube bans coronavirus-related content that directly contradicts WHO advice
YouTube. It's their platform, they make decisions. If you don't like their platform/decisions, go elsewhere.
tree3··on YouTube bans coronavirus-related content that directly contradicts WHO advice
> No, censoring that content including videos is NOT the role of a hosting platform.

Huh? If I ran a hosting platform and people were putting absolute BS on there, I'd remove it too. People who run hosting platforms want to have integrity.

tree3··on Preliminary test results suggest 21% of NYC residents have Covid antibodies
> presumably not at work and therefore not essential workers.

"presumably" is the key word. They aren't saying "definitely".

tree3··on Tesla, Musk must face shareholder lawsuit over going-private tweet
> At what point is the investor expected to take responsibility for bad investments based on speculation?

How is making trades based on statements from the CEO speculation?

tree3··on Unicorn layoffs keep piling up
There are tons of terrible healthcare startups that are propped up by VCs before they crash and burn.

> invest in technology that is a good for everyone

'Nice to haves' are good for everyone. People want to have fun in life, not just work, eat, sleep, and go to the hospital...

tree3··on Ring 0 of fire: Does Riot Games’ new anti-cheat measure go too far?
That's pretty basic as far as anti-cheat goes. This can be done on the application level.
tree3··on L.A. Times to Furlough Workers as Ad Revenue ‘Nearly Eliminated’
What a ridiculous comment. God forbid LA Times reports on the state of the country; the pandemic is affecting everyone significantly everyday, it would be laughable if their pages weren't filled with COVID news.
tree3··on Python programming is drowning in red tape
When I saw "red tape" and "PEP 8", I thought this article was going in a different direction...

But nope, the writer is instead vehemently defending PEP 8, which is a arbitrary standard that no one is required to follow. Who cares if <insert formatter> does <insert thing>, PEP 8 isn't the word of God.

tree3··on A Texas nonprofit experiments with land trusts, for affordable housing
> it prevents... accumulating significant wealth in the the property

That's the entire point- to make housing affordable, not to make housing a investment.

tree3··on 31% Can’t Pay the Rent: ‘It’s Only Going to Get Worse’
The government already values homes for the purpose of property taxes.
tree3··on 31% Can’t Pay the Rent: ‘It’s Only Going to Get Worse’
Included in that 18% are people who aren't supposed to pay rent in the first 5 days of a month. Their rent is just due later in the month.
tree3··on Bernie Sanders Suspends Presidential Bid
> I mean, its unlikely that someone who voted for Trump last time will be voting for Biden this time.

Why do you say that? Voter turnout during primaries was higher than 2016, and Biden was doing well. Even though it may seem like Bernie is more popular on the internet, Biden is more popular among people that actually vote (older people).

tree3··on Zoom sued for overstating, not disclosing privacy, security flaws
Not if your business relies on trust.
tree3··on How YC will be funding the S20 batch
Unfortunately, online ordering is backed up on most sites. My amazon orders are delayed until at least April 19th.
tree3··on Oil is selling for less than $10 across key North American hubs
Except it's not. Prices near me (Western US) are the lowest I've ever seen.
tree3··on 3.28M file for U.S. jobless benefits
How is this evidence of low financial literacy? It appears like this is evidence of the existence of poverty...
tree3··on [dead]
"be put in use IMMEDIATELY"
tree3··on GameStop instructs employees to ignore law enforcement and not shut down
Why not just cancel and get a digital copy?
tree3··on S&P 500 drops 9%, extending losses after 15-minute trading halt
> Trading halts are there to let people catch their breath, supposedly

You mean let high frequency trading bots catch their breath?

tree3··on U.S. Government official: Coronavirus vaccine trial starts Monday
Did you read the wikipedia article? The problem is not related to the virus being present in the vaccine- the vaccine caused a immune disorder that damages the nervous system.
tree3··on 2009 flu pandemic in the United States
I don't think this downplays it at all. If 59 million were infected with H1N1, what's stopping them from being infected with COVID-19, which has a mortality rate at least 10x higher, if not 30x higher?
tree3··on California Covid-19 risk screening and testing
> Not a hot county like Solano?

Would you like to explain how Solano county is more important than Santa Clara, despite the fact that Santa Clara has almost 20x the cases?

tree3··on California Covid-19 risk screening and testing
Still no mention of HIPAA?
tree3··on Federal Reserve slashes interest rates to zero
As that does is shift the cash flow problems to someone else.
tree3··on Federal Reserve slashes interest rates to zero
> "saving" pays less than "investing"

It does, except for when cash performs better than equities (like during a bear market).

tree3··on Coronavirus has disrupted supply chains for nearly 75% of U.S. companies
The standard of living in China has skyrocketed over the past 20-30 years. It's not as cheap as it used to be.
tree3··on $1B Business Where All 700 Employees Work Remotely (2019)
Elastic is not remote-only and they are not VC funded anymore (they IPO'd)
tree3··on Ask HN: Is RSS dead?
I don't think RSS will ever die because it takes little to no effort for a content producer to provide it. It's as simple and straight forward as it gets.
tree3··on An Update from Robinhood’s Founders
> I think they have really democratized stock trading

How does "free" = "democratizing"? Stocks have been easily accessible for years to retail investors.

> their presence pushed a lot of big players to adopt the same offering

Misleading, big brokers were already going down this path.

tree3··on California's rules for independent party voters is another form of suppression
In CO, you get ballots for each party and you get to pick one.
