trashcan··on Shadow credit score could decide whether you get an apartment
I did not. I think it may have been because it was a credit union associated with the college I was going to.
trashcan··on Shadow credit score could decide whether you get an apartment
It's crazy how everyone has a different experience. I was given a $300 non-secured credit card while I was in college with no income. They automatically raised it to 12.5k over time without even asking me.

Were your cats raised in a househould with a dog? I have only had one cat (bengal) that sleeps in my bed and it was. I've read it really helps cats be more outgoing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OG0S5NzWrLo

Also, it being cold in the house seems to have a big impact too.

trashcan··on Tell HN: All .fj domains have gone offline
Yes. https://hackernoon.com/stop-using-io-domain-names-for-produc...

Also there were some comments from the owner at the time that I thought were pretty unprofessional about it, too.

trashcan··on More Cash Invested in Stock in 2021 Than Two Decades Combined
As of a couple months ago, Robinhood only had 80 billion USD in AUM. That said, I agree with the sentiment that there has been a ton more retail investment than usual, but I don't know how to quantify it.

A crash cart used to be a literal cart in the datacenter with a monitor and keyboard to plug into a rack-mounted server to recover access. Not sure if there is something more modern now.

To elaborate, I meant 2x compared to SWEs at the same company. I'd prefer not to post exact dollar amounts as they are relative based on location, company, and several other things.

The folks I am referring to were actually hired as DevOps DBAs.

Distributed databases are pretty difficult to manage, they deserve every dollar.

I don't think it would be appropriate for me to say very specifically, but I suspect about double what a software engineer with the same amount of experience would earn.

I've used Cassandra at two companies, and had the exact same experience as you at the first company. At a much bigger company that had some very, very highly paid Cassandra DBAs it was actually a relatively smooth experience.

MongoDB has the equivalent of hinted handoffs. Changes are streamed to secondary nodes via the oplog, and the secondary just resumes where it was once it is back online. There is a limit to how long it can be offline (based on the size of the oplog), but that is the same limitation as hinted handoffs.

Will this work if I only have the external URL pointed at Nabu Casa? I tried adding my internal/private URL on iOS and it kept timing out connecting, even after adding my SSID.

I wouldn't say the physical location is materially nicer, but the food experience is. I don't think I've ever been served stale food at Chick Fil A, and at McDonald's there's a very good chance on almost every visit. The employees also seem much happier and more helpful in my anecdotal experience.

trashcan··on The Story of the SolarWinds Hack
No idea if it is related, but a SAML implementation security issue was disclosed the same (or very close) day that the SolarWinds attack became public knowledge. Maybe that gave them access to the admin account?

Try Divvy. I mapped its hot key to option space and then you can just move the currently focused app somewhere on its grid.
trashcan··on Wi-Fi 6 is designed to reduce congestion from devices
802.11ac from Google Wifi maxes out at around 300 mbps for me (on gigabit internet. for one device). Not sure on your setup, but it does matter how many streams your Wifi network adaptor has.

The advertised speed of your router usually doesn't mean much, as it usually implies the maximum concurrent speed available, rather than how much one device can use.

If your lights take seconds to turn on, invest in better technology. Lutron Caseta switches take milliseconds to turn lights on.
