tough··on EU to legislate about Chat Control behind closed doors
I'd say the AI powered aspects of it is whats troubling.

We know how trustable ai outputs are, and now govts' are ready to let the AI's control their people?

tough··on EU to legislate about Chat Control behind closed doors
Why one couldn't have all these without the EU ?

Maybe if both left and right weren't just puppets for the capital that finances their superPACs it would be more believable that they're different things
tough··on Michigan bill would bar employers from requiring after-hours coms with workers
I would install the app on the shittiest iPhone backup i have (I must have like 10 iPhones by now, i dont sell old ones)

You can also perfectly use 2fa without a phone, unless your shitty company is using some shitty propietary 2fa, and even then, its just a "key" or "qr" they give you, that then you totally control and can use in mostly any 2fa compatible app, like Passwords. app from apple, 1Password, or Authy (RIP)

Installing shitty apps just cause your company tells you to is a great way to get your personal phone hacked too

Sames goes with all the MITM bullshit, If you want to install malware on my 6k macbook, you've gonna have to buy me your own "work macbook" for me to handle that shit. And i wont touch it for anything else than work. But installing spyware from work in my personal computer is a big NO NO.

You probably have been just lucky with your bosses?

tough··on MicroVMs: Run isolated sandboxes with full lifecycle control
Sorry, I was just curious, i think i'd consider fly more after this exchange than less tho, thanks for all the info.
tough··on Check out the new US passport
Yeah, it might be not AI Slop, what I was trying to confer, it's using the hallmarks of AI like the em-dashes etc, and yes i know "Good writing" contained this much before AI was trained on it, i guess i just meant to say i can see why someone at first sight could get confused on if its AI or not memerely due to formatting. But yeah, that's not "Slop"

Also sakana has misrepresented their findings previously i think to remember [1]

tough··on Check out the new US passport
Its entirely possible they still used some sort of AI to either transcript or edit their content tho, even if personally dictated by them etc. At which point slop becomes human authorship depends on your POV i guess
tough··on 'Careless People' author claims Meta surveilled her for 12mos to enforce silence
So you're impliedly stating the article merely acts as a vehicle to advertise this book?
tough··on Zuckerberg's Increasingly Bizarre War on Whistleblowers
I hope i dont have to find out, but it seems like anything in the US that requires lawyers would by default be an expensive option to pursue (from my lack of knowledge standing, at least, feels like that)
tough··on Zuckerberg's Increasingly Bizarre War on Whistleblowers
does this still apply as a contractor and not employee?
tough··on MicroVMs: Run isolated sandboxes with full lifecycle control
I guess business is all about making the right compromises

VNC/RFB as the transport, but not just a guest-side x11vnc. I forked the local SmolVM path to start libkrun with display enabled, expose the framebuffer + keyboard/pointer input, then serve that over a loopback passworded RFB endpoint. Local Machines waits for display_ready and embeds it. It has to be selected at VM start; no hot attach yet.

The interesting bit is the libkrun GPU/framebuffer/input plumbing; VNC is just how I got the pixels into the macOS app. The guest still needs a real graphical workload/compositor, e.g. Weston.

You’re optimizing for one class of customer by denying another class a choice they explicitly want.

heh I vibe-coded a little local app to have smolmachines and tart, for smolmachines i had to vibe-fork 2 deps deep to get GUI support working, but now i have linux desktop computers on smol machines!

also have support for lima/colima/podman

tough··on OpenAI leans toward waiting until next year for IPO
I didn't partake but from elon's shenanigans with bitcoin and doge (the coin, not the govt thing) it seemed clear he'd do similar with the stock

is tesla stock not volatile too? elon stock's are more like today's crypto than a 20th's century company stock w dividends

tough··on Om Malik has died
There's plenty of great examples of governments deciding to deal with drug abuse in a more humane way, resulting in much better outcomes, see Portugal or Switzerland etc
tough··on Om Malik has died
most probably all the bullshit government "agencies" run by people mostly interested on getting a salary.

If you erradicate homelessness all these jobs woudlnt exist.

Do you think your tax money really goes to get people out of the streets?

well the encryption part is also mostly about OAI wanting to avoid others to distill from their COT/reasoning traces, since this is not ever displayed to devs or final users, and as you say lives on their servers.

but yes you're correct on the responses api already baking it in too

supposedly keeping these between tool calls should help the model reason and have better overall outputs etc

tough··on Steam Machine launches today
I lost access to my 10y old steam account due to their 2fa app getting auto-removed from my iPhone.

I couldnt produce 10y visa statements from another country i lived in.

Since then I just dont use steam, shame cause i like the hw

tough··on The text in Claude Code’s “Extended Thinking” output
OAI is now implementing encrypted CoT that you can store and pass back between turns (harness call), so new models have it https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/reasoning#encr...
