touchpadder··on BPG Image Format
to wait until BPG becomes an open format would take a lifetime. I've been waiting for years now. Fortunately webp is now widely adopted so no need for waiting for bpg anymore

that's why I stick to the web client

touchpadder··on How to reclaim disk space used by Docker volumes, but keep a few important on
For docker-compose: When running and killing don't use ctrl+c It leaves anonymous volumes behind

Start as deamon with: docker-compose up -d

Stop with -v to remove anonymous volumes:

docker-compose down -v

This will slow down swelling

touchpadder··on Better Box Shadows (CSS)
Are people getting interested in realistic design again? These days everything is flat and boring. Bring back the buttons with reflections!
touchpadder··on MS Flight Simulator 2020 vs. Real life
pretty cool idea. Bugs I found: the airplane is stopping in mid air, the steering is too sensitive, should be much much slower so it feels like a big airplane not small toy
touchpadder··on Ray Tracing Essentials Part 7: Denoising for Ray Tracing
I watched some videos comparing ray traced and rasterised graphics and in real life the benefit seems negligible. On top of that rasterised graphics use all kinds of smart techniques to improve the performance. Ray tracing the whole scene is kind of brute forcing, brick and mortar method. It should be used selectively and not on each frame IMO
touchpadder··on A Taste of WebGPU in Firefox
I hope it will bring real performance gains besides just easier API that is abstracted away in most apps.

I have 2 projects using Three.js and pure WebGL: https://bad.city (multiplayer browser game engine + editor) and http://fonted.io (shader toy + fonts)

touchpadder··on I just blocked YouTube on all devices in the house
There's more of mentioned issues in MSM. There's literally everything on YT so it's better to teach your children how to navigate instead of imposing a total ban where the kids will find a way to access it anyway. edit: their algos are now extremely biased towards msm news though so watching it is as stupid as watching television. The days where the internet was making us smarter are long gone.

touchpadder··on Major union launches campaign to organize video game and tech workers
Game developers are like actors in Hollywood. Massive supply of candidates so the pay is not that great. It's a cool and challenging work but everyone would prefer it than "boring" programming jobs which actually pay much better and don't require crunching.

touchpadder··on Arcade Game Typography
The website has been removed from this website but it's still on the emd.txt list, hopefully it's just a cached leftover. Thanks again :)
touchpadder··on Arcade Game Typography
Moru thanks for that! The website is not maintained anymore but it doesn't distribute any malware. Maybe that's why the amount of views is slowly dropping every year. Added a false positive report https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/254447-fontsforwebcom-...
touchpadder··on Arcade Game Typography
Many years ago I made this website with free webfonts, I processed dafont.com database dump, extracted the free ones and processed them into webfonts. http://fontsforweb.com/fontcategories/show/catid/35/Free-Squ... http://fontsforweb.com/fontcategories/show/catid/39/Free-Pix...
touchpadder··on Flow Browser – A parallel, multithreaded HTML browser
what do you mean document.write prevents parallelism? Who's using document.write for anything these days?
touchpadder··on Flow Browser – A parallel, multithreaded HTML browser
I don't think there's that much to improve with current browsers anymore. 8 years ago maybe. Now you have web workers with shared memory, typed arrays, GPU acceleration for canvas and CSS, web assembly with SIMD. It's already possible to utilise all the cores and GPU in 2D. Not even mentioning 3D WebGL and incoming WebGPU. Websites are fast enough already(with ad blocker).
touchpadder··on "Google Stadia is not a product that exists because people want it"
I'm talking about extreme delay of the object fading in, too far in the distance to be interactive(that's why I also mentioned LOD for objects close enough to be interactive). Your 50ms is 50ms of info provided by nvidia and a fan of game streaming wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 50ms and 150ms of pressing a button and actual reaction on the screen lol

touchpadder··on Testing Google Stadia [video]
Promised 60fps 4k and no lag. Delivered 720p/1080p, compression artifacts and 200ms lag in best cases. That's like onLive 10 years ago.
touchpadder··on Testing Google Stadia [video]
Over 200ms "negligible". Ok Google.
touchpadder··on Local-first software: you own your data, in spite of the cloud
Abolition of ownership is a communist idea. Local first, cloud for sync and backup.
touchpadder··on "Google Stadia is not a product that exists because people want it"
If Stadia will be free then why is Google charging money? Are they short on cash? No. They want to limit the majority of reviews to fanboys who buy into "what it can become" narrative. On top of that it will not become free.
