I hate to play the Cassandra again, but the deepest hole ever drilled by anyone was 7Km (edit: 12Km), a far cry from drilling 20Km holes everywhere on the earth. I’ve worked in oil and gas for over 10 years, including on the largest rotary drilling rig in North America, and it is insane what kind of machinery it takes to get 6,000 feet down and push a tool 15,000 feet out.

Just as insane is convincing anyone that your drilling activities aren’t causing earthquakes, screwing up water tables, or leaking gas and other chemicals out of the ground.

I still hope it works lol!

How many of these apps do we need before people stop thinking this is a new and novel idea?

Someone who runs a startup here. Marketing has become so congested on the same platforms that most people are becoming “sign blind” to all of it. Anything squeezing my boarders on my mobile or desktop sites just causes my eyes to look for the “X” button. Older clients I work with in large industries don’t trust or click on any of it, and their company blue coat filters stop you if you accidentally do.

Marketing isn’t all bad. But if your answer to spreading the word about you product comes down to spending money on banner ads, pop ups, or anything else that would annoy you away from looking at your own product…

It pains me to see good tech all over HN and then get a reminder of where the software market’s focus is at: endlessly regurgitating the same idea (wow, another browser) while adding “enterprise features” that aren’t even features. Also, what is up with the $1B valuation when they just came out of stealth mode? This isn’t deep tech. Do they good profit margins (lol)? Do they even have revenue? I don’t even have to ask…
