torified··on Assange Trial Day 18
It is relevant if you are against systematic extrajudicial murder and illegal spying or torture, and think the rule of law is worth following.

But if you aren't, then yeah, not relevant.

torified··on Former YouTube content moderator describes horrors of the job in lawsuit
Thanks for the link, I read that a while back and have been trying to find the article again ever since then, but hadn't been able to find the right terms to put into google.
torified··on Assange Hearing Day 16
They should just save everyone's time by dropping pretences and summarily dragging Julian into the square and shooting him in the back of the head.

That would be much more humane than dragging this farce out with endless legal purgatory before guaranteed solitary confinement for the rest of his life.

All for sharing proof of systematic illegal murder. It's sickening.

torified··on Assange Hearing Day 16
The whole charade is to enable a future army of lobotomized bootlickers the confidence to proclaim, "he had his time in court", long after all the barely-reported injustices in the proceedings of this kangaroo court have been forgotten.

It would also serve as a warning against any possible future martyrs who might intend to rely on the law to protect them for doing the right thing by reporting on the ruling classes criminality.

This whole farce also cements the US spot as world police, when an Australian citizen can be disappeared for not following US law when not even in the US, and their UK lap-dog just cowers in the corner begging for more table scraps.

"Nothing to see here, move along citizen. Don't give me a reason to check your permanent record for wrongthink."

That's all people.
torified··on 179 Arrested in Global Dark Web Takedown
Just like anyone, they make mistakes.

Think of the most boneheaded thing that you did in the last two years, then imagine that could have been the one mistake that gets you busted.

Also they probably get complacent about the whole thing eventually.

torified··on 179 Arrested in Global Dark Web Takedown
Like what? Tor itself is never the reason they were caught as far as anyone knows.
torified··on 179 Arrested in Global Dark Web Takedown
Plus it doesn't make sense. If they know his number to call him, why can't they just confirm the address from him and deliver it?
torified··on Why are Amnesty International monitors not able to observe the Assange hearing?
Is there any evidence at all to suggest that is the case?

Of course not, it's a ridiculous allegation with no basis in fact.

A baseless allegation that would have rightly been completely ignored by police if it wasn't Assange.

torified··on Why are Amnesty International monitors not able to observe the Assange hearing?
I didn't say I was surprised, only sickened.
torified··on Why are Amnesty International monitors not able to observe the Assange hearing?
>If someone purposefully hides salient facts from you in order to coerce sexual intercourse then it can be that consent was only acquired by deception and that under the law consent was not freely given.

Assange could have Tuberculosis too. So that's also rape, right? The flu? Also rape. He could be a triple rapist!

Just forget all that systematic government murdering, spying, and lying he revealed, we won't entertain facts from a possible triple rapist!

torified··on Why are Amnesty International monitors not able to observe the Assange hearing?
So, he's a rapist because he can't read minds and we imagine he prefers not to wear a condom. Got it.

Of course nobody should be interested when his human rights are ignored, because that inexcusable behavior is so much more damaging for society than governments murdering innocent civilians, illegally spying on everyone, and lying to their own people about their actions.

GG military industrial complex.

torified··on Why are Amnesty International monitors not able to observe the Assange hearing?
As an Australian, I'm sickened that our pathetic excuse for a government has shown no interest in protecting one of their own citizens being dragged into this kangaroo court.

Spineless and corrupt.

torified··on Why are Amnesty International monitors not able to observe the Assange hearing?
>The fact that this leaked and almost nobody cares means that people have made a decision.

Most people have made the decision that the government is corrupt, Assange is an asshole, and there's nothing they can do about any of it because their elected officials are also corrupt.

That is hardly an endorsement of all the horrible things that the US government has been secretly doing in their name.

torified··on Survivor of CIA Torture and Rendition Supports Assange at Extradition Trial
Look at what the US is already doing. Torture, secret "trials", spying, internment camps, zero judicial oversight.

It's very dangerously close already, it's only a matter of time until those in power finally take the thin mask off.

Won't the citizens be surprised! Fox news never warned us of this!

torified··on 738GB of govt customer data leaked in NSW
Excellent work from the government that brought you backdoored encryption or secret 15 year jail terms for sysadmins who refuse to spy on their customers.

TRUST US, WE'RE THE GOVERNMENT!

Can you explain what you mean by this? I've never had the time-dilation effects.

torified··on Low Doses of LSD Acutely Increase BDNF Blood Plasma Levels in Healthy Volunteers
I was in the passenger seat of a car, and my mind wandered while watching the car in front of us - I 100% watched it lose control and drive off the side of the road into the blackness.

It was just my imagination as confirmed by the sober driver and other passengers.

I was aware that my mind was wandering though - at a higher dose I might not have been aware of that.

torified··on Australian Government and businesses hit by state-based cyber attack, PM says
Not just "pushes", they have already passed a law where they can secretly force sysadmins to create backdoors for them under threat of 15 years jail, with no legal representation. No warrant necessary, just the approval of a retired judge. And no reporting. You can't make this shit up.

Stasi commandant Dutton has also recently introduced a bill to interrogate 14 year olds with no legal representation as well.

Bloody scary what's happening here.

torified··on Australian Government and businesses hit by state-based cyber attack, PM says
Hmm, a "sophisticated state actor" or a copy-paste script kiddy? Which one was it?

Copy-paste and open source was enough to get into the Australian Parliament, apparently our pollies simply can't resist the allure of larger penises and wealthy Nigerians in trouble.

Or maybe, just maybe, there is just the slightest possibility that this is all just a manufactured distraction from other issues...

These are the nincompoops who passed a law to backdoor everyone's encryption and nuke their own country's IT industry from orbit with a law that nobody wanted. What a surprise that they can't keep their own data secure.

torified··on Facebook Helped Develop a Tails Exploit
I don't believe most of the technical details of this story and it sounds like parallel construction created to avoid revealing the technique.

How would they know he was running tails particularly?

And what a happy coincidence that the 0day was patched before they even had a moral obligation to notify anyone about it. Quelle chance!

torified··on Pepsi’s $32B Typo Caused Deadly Riots
Personally, I see the very existence of a designer handbag store as a clear indication of a system that is broken to the core - an insult to unselfish people everywhere.

A designer handbag store to me perfectly exlemplifies a completely broken tax system and citizens being held hostage by a corrupt government and corporations defending their interests.

I sympathize with people who would want to damage that system in any way available to them.

I wouldn't do that particular act myself, but I also recognize that I've been very lucky to not have been one of the people who has suffered at the hands of such a broken system. Lucky I had good parents, good health and good education. The system has failed others, and shows no signs of self-correction without intervention.

Thanks for the post.

I'm curious, did they try to put any pressure on you to unlock the devices for them?

torified··on The EARN IT act is an attack on end-to-end encryption
Excellent!

It's about time the public started to take an interest in their own privacy. Even Snowden wasn't able to wake up the lobotomized masses.

Hopefully the techies will come up with more and better solutions to work around around brain-dead power grabs like this.

Incidentally, Matrix seems pretty damn good.

torified··on Australia's NSA plans to hack Australian PCs
Yes but this goes even beyond just spying and gives them the ability to offensively hack citizens PCs.

From the other link I posted:

"ASD has legal and policy coverage to do offensive cyber operations against selected foreign targets. But this is not intelligence – it goes well beyond gathering information and into the realm of actively disrupting people or organisations overseas by damaging their data and computers. But doing this in Australia is an entirely different matter.

It was disturbing to hear Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton say last year this will be done with the necessary warrants. There are no warrants for computer or data disruption in Australia – it is just plain illegal. Warrants under the Telecommunications Interception and Access Act approved by a judge or the Attorney General only permit interception and access for the purpose of gathering information/intelligence. There is no equivalent law for computer disruption, except for the law that says it is illegal – no exceptions. So we are talking here about a whole new legal framework."

That's the former head of the ASD warning everyone.

Yes, even under a "good Democratic system".

torified··on How India, the World's Largest Democracy, Shuts Down the Internet
>The only way around this is to develop tools and solutions.

It's an interesting thought experiment what those tools would be like.

Maybe something like freenet mixed with ipfs over a wifi mesh network? Not sure how that would work with that much latency.

You could have throwaway wifi dropboxes to propagate between people.

One project I read about was a raspberry pi wifi "grenade". It boots off a usb with the encryption key then it runs off a ramdisk. Then you "pull the pin" and leave it. If it's discovered then nobody can analyze it to find out what it was doing or who it was communicating with.
