torified··on Pricing the anonymity of banknotes
I've made purchases with monero that were anonymous and final. From memory the transaction fee was something like 10c. Worth every penny.

>The draft was open to public comment and 343 submissions were made.

>Of these, only one was in favor of the regulations. The rest either demanded revisions, or were completely against the bill. Despite the cascade of disapproval, the final draft of the law was barely subject to any scrutiny.

>On the last day of sitting before the Christmas period, a revised version of the bill was presented to the Parliament. It featured 173 amendments, but members were barely given any time to review them.

>The official reason was that the laws needed to be rushed through to prevent potential terrorist attacks from happening over the holidays. This was an especially dubious claim, since Australia already has a host of anti-terrorism laws.

>If the authorities required the new capabilities to force companies into building backdoors, then this also should be viewed with skepticism. Since the laws were passed on December 6, it is unlikely that any company would have been able to provide the necessary tools ahead of Christmas.

>On top of this, ASIO, the Australian spy agency, acknowledged there was no specific threat over the period, and it did not raise its warning level.

Absolute bullshit and our spineless "representatives" should be ashamed.

What kind of society are they supposedly defending?

There is censoring now, but I think only via dns.

Try going to thepiratebay.org using your isp dns.

torified··on Study hints at the promise of non-hallucinogenic LSD for treating mood disorders
Oh my god, I've been looking for this song for about a decade!

I had faint memories of an electronic song with footsteps in it. Listened to it about 20 times on repeat at a friend's house probably 30 years ago, but I remembered those lyrics immediately while reading your comment.

Thanks so much!

I was on acid, being driven by a friend in a car at night, and I saw the car ahead of us drive off the side of the road.

It didn't happen.

It was basically a daydream - I was just thinking to myself, "I hope that car doesn't crash", then zoned out and literally saw it happen with my eyes open. I watched the tail lights drive off the edge.

Afterwards I zoned back in and the car ahead of us was back.

That is the only time I've ever seen anything that wasn't actually there except patterns and "breathing". I haven't ever taken anything near a heroic dose though.

Really? You really find it that difficult?

https://en.btdig.com/search?order=0&q=climb%20s01e01 (might be slower but just click on every magnet on there and see which one is quickest)

Took 5 seconds to find those.

You could google "top torrent sites", enter one search and be watching that show in less time than it took you to write that comment.

As others have said, it would take me a lot longer to find out which of the myriad streaming services actually have that show, and what device/app I need to actually watch that streaming service.

What? Piracy is so easy.

Go to torrent site, download torrent, click on file. It really couldn't be easier. There's no DRM on the torrent. If you have a semi-modern GPU you can play any codec you might download. I'm really not sure what you're talking about, unless you're going to some weird torrent site.

Piracy has a great user experience compared to paying for DRM and having to use a particular app instead of your preferred player.

It was actually interesting to me the latest Chris Rock special which was on Netflix live recently. The first live event I've heard of Netflix doing.

It took a day to get onto the torrent sites.

So that was the first instance I've seen where buying was better than pirating.

I did see comments on the torrent sites from people who were there because their legitimate paid setup was deemed incompatible with live streams by Netflix though... Not a great incentive to keep paying.

I sought out, and saw, hardcore porn (magazines) when I was 10. I don't think it had a negative impact on me at all.

I was curious and I satisfied my curiosity. I continue to satisfy my curiosity, lol.

Don't forget the #datbill as well. [1]

Australia is a bad joke at this point. I thought nanny state was bad but we're firmly moving into Stasi territory now.

Even the government's obvious incompetence is looking like not enough protection in the face of all these overreaches.

torified··on Daniel Hale, who leaked information on U.S. drone, sentenced 45 months in prison
Systemic extrajudicial murder, making the evidence top secret, ignoring the rule of law and jailing any people who have enough of a conscience to whistleblow.

It's getting harder and harder to claim the US are still the good guys.

torified··on Element (Matrix chat app) suspended from the Google Play Store
I just want to chat with my friends without spooks putting it into a permanent database to later be used out of context against me. A crazy, dangerous idea, I know.

It's amazing to see how far we've fallen - to be at ease with the idea that there can be no such thing as a private conversation, and therefore that any private conversation is by definition illegal.

Any crime should require an actual victim. Which means there is evidence of it happening. You don't need a permanent record of everyone's conversations to uncover such crimes, police just need to do the job which we pay them for, which is to investigate.

CP and terrorism are both disgusting, horrible things, but even those are not worth losing all our basic human freedoms over, or we won't be left with a lifestyle worth defending.

torified··on “Before cancelling your subscription, you must agree to the following”
Sounds like what the girlsdoporn guys did to their "models". They took them to another state and then badgered them into doing an adult scene, claiming they would only be seen on DVD in another country.

When the girls later discovered that their scenes were available to anyone on the internet, and tried to "cancel their service", they released their information to all and sundry including their parents/bosses, etc. Just to be jerks.

What problem does that solve?

You're doubling the transfer size. Why not just encrypt with a random passcode?

I still don't see the point though. For discoverability/longevity you need seeders. If every transfer has a different hash, then that can't happen.
