tokioyoyo··on Terence McKenna's Mega Bad Trip (2025)
I can see how they mean "the search for the unknown" in itself is already some sort of spirituality.
tokioyoyo··on Claude Code uses Bun written in Rust now
What was your safety guarantee pre-rewrite? If CVE scanners and aggregators is your answer, then well, this applies to post-rewrite as well.
tokioyoyo··on Claude Code uses Bun written in Rust now
Cause it works, most users are fine with it, people don't migrate off it because of the codebase, and easier to maintain if the dev team is familiar with code flow.

This is close to the same "why Spotify is a chromium embed?" question. Because it works, and users are ok with it.

tokioyoyo··on What AI did to stackoverflow in a graph
An average joe like me didn’t go to SO for human interaction. I was there for an answer, and it’s just faster/better to query an LLM now. And what it looks like, majority of people are like me. No human interaction would resolve this demand problem.
tokioyoyo··on AWS: Inaccurate Estimated Billing Data – $1.7 billion
Thank you so much! I just woke up, and saw budget alert email for a dormant account to use $434,896.90. I haven't gotten so awake so fast in such a long time.
tokioyoyo··on As a musician, I prefer illegal downloading over Spotify (2011)
Doesn’t really explain why piracy rates are much lower in Japan compared to other countries. It is mostly a cultural issue, and a lot of people will go above and beyond to justify their actions.

Just to note, I’m not even that anti-piracy, but if something is not being sold, or conveniently provided, you can just… not get it?

tokioyoyo··on NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook
My wild guess is Google isn’t willing to play as dirty as the others wrt data acquisition.
tokioyoyo··on Kimi K3: Open Frontier Intelligence
Backed by Alibaba, so not really resource constrained, but obviously much less than Ant/OAI. They did a spectacular job, congrats!
tokioyoyo··on Kimi K3 is now live
That is correct, but that’s not what I’m talking about. A lot of people complain about handing their data to Chinese government. My argument is, as of today, people like China more than the US. And the American government has publicly said that they’re basically controlling all AI labs if needed. So yeah.
tokioyoyo··on Kimi K3 is now live
Again, you might be against Chinese government. People aren’t the world perceive China in a better light than the USA right at this moment.
tokioyoyo··on Kimi K3 is now live
Right at this moment, there are more people in the world on the side of China than on the side of the USA. Which can translate into raw market numbers at some point. So these comments are kinda moot.
tokioyoyo··on Microsoft has released software updates to plug at least 570 security holes
20 years ago software wasn't as much battle tested as today, had way less feature set, was less connected to the internet, and etc. 428 CVEs looks small, assuming not all have CVSS 9.8 or something.
tokioyoyo··on Claude Code sends 33k tokens before reading the prompt; OpenCode sends 7k
Generally, companies with >150 people can’t use subs. So yeah, it’s mostly a funnel for devs/small companies to eventually vet for the product and convince their enterprise to use it as well.
tokioyoyo··on Weightlifting beats running for blood sugar control, researchers find
Since it’s summer i try to start my day with biking downhill to the gym for some weightlifting, then bike to the outdoor pool, then slowly bike back. Probably the best 2 hours of my day every day. But I agree with the spirit, once you find what you enjoy, no matter how mediocre you are at it, it feels amazing.
tokioyoyo··on AI 2040 and the cult of intelligence
Does it matter in 2026?
tokioyoyo··on AI has torched the market for junior programmers
Same here.
tokioyoyo··on My dad helped build North America's oat supply chain: Can it be remade?
Ah, thank you, and sorry!
tokioyoyo··on EU to legislate about Chat Control behind closed doors
This gets brought up a lot, and I’m not sure how to explain it. But inconsequential complete free speech is not the top issue for some people. People have different priorities.
tokioyoyo··on U.S. government will decide who gets to use GPT-5.6
At some point, we should kinda accept that "China's X, Y, Z industries are about to collapse" headlines are just bad at predicting the future. They've proven again and again how they can pivot fast. Applies to tech as well.

I'm assuming you don't have any working relations with any Chinese companies, because on-the-ground shows something much different than what these headlines promise.

tokioyoyo··on U.S. government will decide who gets to use GPT-5.6
Theoretically that gives edge to all other companied around the world though, no?
tokioyoyo··on An entire Herculaneum scroll has been read for the first time
This is one of the most fascinating comments I’ve ever read. Thank you so much!

I was wondering, how does this all get funded?

tokioyoyo··on OpenAI to Stagger Release of GPT 5.6 at Request of U.S. Government
This will be a fun watch, because other countries won't rush to ban Chinese models. Fun times, fun times.
tokioyoyo··on Anthropic says Alibaba illicitly extracted Claude AI model capabilities
Pretty much objectively puts you/your company in disadvantage if you’re not using frontier models.
tokioyoyo··on Anthropic says Alibaba illicitly extracted Claude AI model capabilities
In this scenario it does, because consumers win.

Everyone in AI industry wants to fight dirty, but gets angry when their competitor fights dirty as well. And I’ve mentioned it before, how I generally like Ant and its products.

tokioyoyo··on PR spam today looks like email spam in the early 2000s
You might be underestimating the number of little schools, and computer shops. I can recall even back in 2005, there were HTML shops popping up here and there, in little cities around the world.
tokioyoyo··on Loupe – A iOS app that raises awareness about what native apps can see
Are your users technical people or non-technical? From my personal experience, once you pass certain number of users, most bugs are caught by your own systems through reported telemetry. It’s very rare for non-technicals to report a bug, as it’s easier to close the app and switch to competitor.
tokioyoyo··on Loupe – A iOS app that raises awareness about what native apps can see
10 years ago we already had the same tools. 15 years ago they were starting up.

If you wanna go further, 20 years ago we didn’t have that much of distribution, users, or differences in software/hardware. Shipping speeds were also much slower.

tokioyoyo··on Never Give Them Your Face
Smart and driven people wasting time on ideas that have been tested time and time through to be ineffective is not net good for society.
tokioyoyo··on Never Give Them Your Face
Well, kinda yes, but not really.

Concept of SNS changed from “audience of my friends and acquaintances” to “audience of potentially anyone in the world” around 2017ish, when every feed became algo-feed. And users like it, because it is akin to “endless Reddit scrolling”, but more tailored to things you might find interesting. And posters like it too, because of potential reach and attention.

Instagram Reels has 2B+ monthly users. Even if we say 50% are bots, not active and etc., that’s still roughly 1B users. It really tracks if you stand up on a busy subway train, almost in any city, and just look around. You’ll see full screens of TikTok, IG, YouTube shorts. The younger generation’s “private group chats” aren’t some sort of replacement to endless scrolling. A good chunk of messages are links to posts in one of those platforms.

tokioyoyo··on Did my old job only exist because of fraud?
Easier to say than do.
