todipa··on China's population shrank last year for the first time in 70 years
Curious as to other countries that have recently hit peak population.
todipa··on Living paycheck to paycheck is disturbingly common
I agree with this and that is why we are focusing on funding our child's 529 account to the max without endangering our retirement.
todipa··on Living paycheck to paycheck is disturbingly common
In financial planning, we call that life-time debt.
todipa··on Congress votes to make open government data the default in the United States
"...incredibly easy way score those imaginary points and followers which are the hottest commodity since sliced bread." This made me laugh - sadly true
todipa··on Congress votes to make open government data the default in the United States
Open data is the first step.

I wish I could do more business with my gov't (State and Local) through the internet.

todipa··on Is It Possible to Have a Company with No Office Politics?
You can still have a sole proprietorship but have employees. Sole proprietorship means that you are the sole owner.

I think what you meant is 1 person company with the owner being the only person working for the company... Agree with you on this point.

todipa··on DOJ made secret arguments to break crypto, now ACLU wants to make them public
Are there any organizations I can support other than the ACLU that has fought for internet freedom and against government mass surveillance?
todipa··on How one family built Qualtrics to an $8B exit
Total agreement on the market opportunity. I'm not technical in any way like most of the people commenting here. I run a small financial planning business and I'm paying "a lot" of money to Typeform and to Wufoo to gather client data. Both of them have their advantages and disadvantages but I'm ready to move on to something else if it fits my needs which aren't that complicated.

"Young now calls his wife "probably the single-most important contributor" to the initial success of Red Hat. "Without my wife Nancy's sterling credit rating, I wouldn't been able to raise the money that got us to profitability," he says."

I can relate to this.

todipa··on Apple Reports Third Quarter Results
Need to update my wife's Mac but she doesn't need a $1,800 machine.
todipa··on Apple Reports Third Quarter Results
the problem is that it looks like growth has stalled.
todipa··on Venture Capitalist Demographics: Where Did You Go To School?
Big fan of the changing gender demographics. There are problems out there that are gender specific and sadly don't get as much attention in a male-dominated space. Remember, a large portion of the decisions in venture are "gut based" and are inherently filled with biases...
todipa··on Alphabet Announces Second Quarter 2018 Results [pdf]
Fines are becoming a common expense, they should list them as a cost of doing business.

They aren't tax deductible for US purposes so you are taxed on pre-fine income.

todipa··on Three Delusions: Paper Wealth, a Booming Economy, and Bitcoin
There is a lot to dissect but I would focus on labor force. Our labor force used to be all human labor. Now it includes a large number of bots, both physical and software, that take care of business. The (output = labor . x) doesn't work anymore.
todipa··on Gawker Files for Bankruptcy, Will Be Put Up for Auction
a) An attorney working on contingency and your description of maintenance are not very far apart. b) In this country, justice is correlated with wealth. That was clearly shown in the Stanford rape case. Having wealthy people or non-profit organizations fund lawsuits against corporations should be allowed.
