tobiasu··on One Professional Russian Troll Tells All
RFERL. Enough said.
tobiasu··on Encryption ban: David Cameron is teetering dangerously close to authoritarianism
It still is, and pretty much every nation on earth has signed the agreement.

Most nations don't make themselves look like idiots by enforcing it against a bunch of open-source hippies, but try to export some crypto software for military use to North Korea...

http://www.wassenaar.org/ it's in chapter 5, can't remember whether a or b

Windriver recently got booked because of exporting OpenSSL...

tobiasu··on How Apple Pie Became 'American'
This is what it looks like when someone is caught in their own reality bubble.
tobiasu··on GNU Emacs conversion to Git
Finally you guys can all start sending patches to emacs. /s
tobiasu··on How to buy a tank: a BRDM-2 story
Given that Russia, Belarus and Ukraine had a joint arms industry until a few months ago, it's not surprising.

Ukraine is a large exporter of tanks, mainly to 3rd world countries - they have tanks built for export that were not available to the army until now. These export vehicles showed up over the last weeks, because the army was clearly running out off their preferred T-64, etc.

tobiasu··on Sendmail removed from OpenBSD base
BIND was also removed from OpenBSD btw.
tobiasu··on Doom
I record myself every once in a while. Makes for very depressing video.
tobiasu··on George Orwell's review of Mein Kampf (1940)
Russia has strategic as well as a tactical nuclear weapons. They have repeatedly stated that they will use tactical weapons to make up for any shortcoming in conventional forces.

An example could be nuking a large staging area or aircraft carriers. There's nothing irrational about it, once war progresses this far.

tobiasu··on Germany turns up pressure in suspected US spy case
My question is: If Germany is still occupied, what is it that it can not do?
tobiasu··on Germany turns up pressure in suspected US spy case
How about you stop raging about things I didn't say?
tobiasu··on Germany turns up pressure in suspected US spy case
On paper. But the 2+4 treaty is mostly Soviets leave, NATO stays and expands.
tobiasu··on Germany turns up pressure in suspected US spy case
I'm intrigued, tell us more about the war against Russia. Which German politicians have deep connections with enemy states, and what are those states?
tobiasu··on What does GCHQ know about our devices that we don't?
My shill alarm is off the scale while reading your posts.

Surely you have a link to that law...

tobiasu··on Silent Circle raises $30M, moves to Switzerland
Say hi to PTSS: https://www.li.admin.ch/en/index.html
tobiasu··on LibreSSL
Well, we're all waiting for you to write a BSD licensed git/hg replacement that has decent performance on a VAX.
tobiasu··on OpenBSD forks, prunes, fixes OpenSSL
Since when does OpenBSD (a Canadian project with a developer group all over the planet) need to care about some certification and standard bullshit by the government of the United States of America?

What have the USA done for us lately? Oh yes, fought a long battle against cryptography in the hands of world citizens, spied on everyone and their dog, canceled OpenBSD funding, started multiple illegal wars and threatened every single country into submission (except for the one with nukes pointed at the White House).

Does it get any more selfish? Bah.

tobiasu··on Ask HN: What's happening to openssl?
OpenSSLs internal PRNG framework was ripped out and only the (noop) API is left. arc4random is the only PRNG source left, it can not fail and doesn't need to be seeded.

OpenBSD goes to great lengths and sacrifices some performance to ensure the kernel PRNG is always useable.

tobiasu··on Wireless electricity? It's here
This is one of the fastest electric race cars on earth right now: http://www.draysonracingtechnologies.com/home.html

http://www.draysonracingfe.com/technology.html?Wireless-Char...

It gets charged via induction. Fifth Gear recently had a segment about this where you could briefly see the black flat device they park it over.

edit: pic: http://www.draysonracingfe.com/technology.html?Wireless-Char...

Of all the silly things one could do with "wireless" electricity, charging cars is probably one of the better applications.

I believe this is in use since quite some time for charging equipment like forklifts, busses on fixed lines, etc.

tobiasu··on Apache Removed from OpenBSD Base
Aha, "silly". I see your comment is full of arguments why this was the case all these years. Most Apache security issues didn't affect or had lesser impact on OpenBSDs fork.

The only thing silly here is your opinion.

tobiasu··on Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 makes it clear: we need to rethink black boxes
Before you waste time with better data logging, please install an ejection seat, parachute, and a built-in life support system. That's much more useful than sensors that record the demise of the passengers to satisfy the bloodlust of news corps.

Or rationally, don't change a damn thing. Airliners are fine. Any other form of transportation (maybe with the exception of trains) is many times more deadly and we cope with that risk just fine.

tobiasu··on Yahoo to End Facebook, Google Sign-In on Its Web Properties
Ah yes, the good samaritians over at facefuck, providing a service for free. (Leave it to us, you're too stupid to handle this...)

Your disgusting business motives and my (consumer) interests do not align, at all.

tobiasu··on Element 14 Holding Orders Based On US Government Watch List
Building a CNC machine with a regular lathe and mill may not be hobbyist level easy, but it's certainly doable by someone as rich in machining tradition as Russia.

Amusingly, the incident would also dispell the (western) myth that it takes very advanced machining technology to build a nuclear bomb. You can't have it both ways.

I suspect the real incident was the software to mill those propellers, but that wasn't on the list of illegal goods. It's one thing to have a fancy but dumb CNC machine, another to come up with a silent prop design.

tobiasu··on U.S. now bugging German ministers in place of Merkel – report
You seem unaware that spying is a military aggression that doesn't have to be tolerated.
tobiasu··on U.S. now bugging German ministers in place of Merkel – report
The US (and UK) have no right to operate listening posts in Germany either. Just because they have some secret contracts or whatever doesn't make it a right.

Contracts can be canceled. The current affair would be a very good reason to do so, and close all the military bases in one big swoop.

tobiasu··on The Tragedy of Mathematics In Russia
Explain why someone should spend time debating with you?
tobiasu··on Nadella as Microsoft CEO: A slap in the face for Indian system
Btw, I'm not suggesting to abandon cultural identity. Those are natural in a sense, while I feel that nationality is a tool to herd people in. Conflicts will continue to happen, no doubt, we're still human. But at least they are somewhat justified clashes, instead of made up wars that serve only the interests of an elite.
tobiasu··on Nadella as Microsoft CEO: A slap in the face for Indian system
Was he, per chance, invaded by a nation that loved its nationalism uber alles? A nation that was only recently unified from many tribes, and whose politicians longing for a great nation resulted in 50-70 million dead?

No thanks. Nationality is whose warlords turf you are born on. The second we get over this concept, the world will be a better place.

tobiasu··on Printable True Bugs Wait Posters
What is false? I'm not talking about the source string not being terminated when it's too long. That's obvious and there are plenty posts about it in this thread.

Not sure what you want to say with the example code. Maybe swap it for strncpy and strlcpy and see whether that matches your expectations?
